Microsoft: Windows 7 and Office 2010 Thread
Ok I need a favor from someone. My new Macbook Pro arrives tomorrow and I want to put 7 ultimate on there. I got my copy and key from a school website and I'm having one hell of a time making a bootable DVD out of it. side note: I SUCK at making bootable USB drives or DVDs, IDK why but they never work for me (except Wintoflash).
So the favor I'm asking is can someone make an ISO of an 64 bit Upgrade copy of 7 and upload it to depositfiles.com and send me the link so I can download it? I don't care what flavor as long as it's 64bit and is the upgrade version not full version.
The macbook pro cannot boot windows from a USB flash drive so it has to be DVD and I can't seem to figure out how to make a bootable dvd out of the files I have. bootable USB drive, sure I can do that (using wintoflash) but DVD that's a different story.

Which MBP did you get?

I just ordered my new Windows 7 laptop! It's got a
2.4ghz Core i5 processor
320gb hard drive (probably upgrade to SSD in the future)
4gb RAM DDR3
Nvidia 330m graphics
15.4in Hi-res Anti-glare widescreen display (1680x1050)
802.11n
bluetooth 2.1
SD card slot
It doesn't have an express card slot, though the bigger 17in model does.

Here are a couple links that offer a down-loadable ISO.
http://techpp.com/2009/11/11/downloa...ownload-links/
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2009/10...udent-upgrade/
Those should have a 64-bit upgrade iso that you can use with your student key.
Also, I use nLite for making OS ISO's. You can load all the drivers you need into the image, and whatever hotfixes or service packs you want and they will streamline into the install.

My boss was having problems getting an older version of Norton Backup Exec installed on 7 but we were able to use XP mode even though on my work machine even though it didn't have VT support and install Norton backup and recover the files for our client server that had been down all week. XP Mode FTW!
Built it about a year ago. There's a thread about it in PC/Gaming.

Success BITCHES!! fffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu that was way too difficult though. But now I know how to make a bootable windows install DVD from just install files! You can extract the bootimage from a Windows 7 install DVD and then use that boot image to make a working install disc. I'm sure I'm the only one here who'll have to do this but now you know!
Yeah it's pretty cool, especially now that it doesn't require VT support from the processor.

FWIW - I was just notified that O2K10 is available on my volume licensing site. My download is currently humming along at a blazing 80 KB/s.
BTW, am I correct in that there is no "enterprise edition" with O2K10? I really haven't paid much attention. It seems that "Professional Plus" is now the top of the line.

Out of curiosity, are any of you using Office 2010 (specifically Outlook) on a machine with a McAfee product? If so, which McAfee product and what version?
McAfee, being the %*$#tards that they are, have no information published anywhere on their web site about compatibility with Office 2010. Our account manager at McAfee has been looking into this for me all day and has yet to be able to get an answer from his internal sources.
And before anyone says run MSE or something other than McAfee, this is for work so there isn't much choice in the matter.

We lucked out on the McAfee false positive fiasco. Our parent university got hit pretty hard though. We always tell our users at the Law School where I work to set their auto-updates to early morning or late evening. McAfee posted the 'effed up update at 10:00am our time and pulled it within two hours.
You mean server 2003 R2 x64. I'll look around the office and let you know. I don't think they offer eval licenses for for it anymore. I know with win 7 the eval copy had the key built-in and you didn't have to enter it.
FYI 2003 R2 is just 2003 SP1 on Disc 1 + a Disc 2 which magically turns your server into the R2 version. AFAIK almost everything in 2K3 R2 is just additional features. There is essentially no difference in the code base.
BTW, I only have 32-bit media.

Question... Whenever I move or copy a folder from my desktop (default location for my torrents) to my external drive, the copy completes but then leaves the original empty parent folder. Its almost like it recreates it after the copy, because I'll have the folder in one spot on my desktop. Copy it over, then the empty folder will reappear on the desktop but in the left hand side default spot. Not where I had it before i copied it over. Then I always have to delete the left over folder... Sup with that?

I see some chatter about this. Its Vista but same scenario.

Ithink we tracked down a person with an MSDN access for us. Thanks though.

Can I jump on the favor bandwagon?
If any of you have MSDN access, would it be possible for you to tell when Microsoft Office 2010 was first released to the development community? Thanks.

BTW, the above mentioned request is directly related to my McAfee compatibility concerns with O2K10. McAfee got back to me saying that they are not prepared to officially support Office 2010 with Virus Scan Enterprise until their next version is released in Q4 of this year.
As you may imagine, I'd like to go back to McAfee and essentially say "It's taking you how f*cking long to certify Office 2010 RTM code when the product has been available to you for [X amount of time]!"

To clarify, I want to know when the very first instance of O2K10 appeared on MSDN. Alpha build, pre-beta, whatever. Basically, how long could McAfee have had their hands on any form of the product to start their development and testing work.
LMGTFY.... from Wikipedia
On April 15, 2009, Microsoft confirmed that Office 2010 will be officially released in the first half of 2010. They announced on May 12, 2009 at a Tech Ed event,[17] that Office 2010 will begin technical testing during July and was publicly released to those who signed up to test on 07/08/09. It will also be the first version of Office to ship in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.[18][19]
The Beta Build 4417 was leaked to the internet on August 25, 2009. It contained a number of UI enhancements, as well as the near final implementation of Backstage View.[20]
[edit] Technical Preview
An internal post-Beta build was leaked on July 12, 2009, newer than the official preview build and including a "Limestone" internal test application.[22]
On July 14, 2009, Microsoft started to send out invitations on Microsoft Connect to test an official preview build of Office 2010.[23] On August 30, 2009, the beta build 4417 was leaked on the internet via torrent networks.[20]

Most businesses don't roll out a new version of software as soon as it's released. Knowing this I bet McAfee won't spend time getting their products to work with 2010 since it hasn't been released yet and cause corporate users are slow to adopt new software so they think they've got time to kill.
