I could tell by the name that it was some apple shit, typical. Anyways, see if the file got renamed maybe. what ever folder it's supposed to be in look for a corefoundation.dll (1) I've seen that happen. Other than that if you don't want to download that file from the web you can take the missing file from another trusted PC. Your wife's maybe, just to be safe make sure she's running that same version of itunes as you. Or you could uninstall and reinstall iTunes, that would probably fix it too.

If I edit the permissions of a sub folder it doesn't override the inherited permissions from the parent directory?

Are you doing an upgrade or clean install? If you're doing a clean install the OS is installed then the first thing I do is go to www.ninite.com click all the software you want to install and it will install every thing you choose automatically. Make sure you choose MS Security Essentials.

I just ordered my new Windows 7 laptop! It's got a
2.4ghz Core i5 processor
320gb hard drive (probably upgrade to SSD in the future)
4gb RAM DDR3
Nvidia 330m graphics
15.4in Hi-res Anti-glare widescreen display (1680x1050)
802.11n
bluetooth 2.1
SD card slot

It doesn't have an express card slot, though the bigger 17in model does.

No, I plan to run both but mainly 7. I didn't want to bother with a GRUB boot loader or anything like that and they have great screen and design so it made sense.

Intel is starting to dilute the differences between the i5 and i7. It used to be that i7 meant quad core now there's dual core i7's (mobile only, for now at least). So the only difference is the i7 has higher clock speed and it has 4mb of L3 cache vs 3mb of L3 cache.

and I got Bing cashback on it! WHAT WHAT! So I saved 3% from getting from a online retailer instead from the OEM plus I'm getting 3% cashback and I got free shipping and no tax. If I would've bought it from the OEM it would've cost me over $250 more!! I've now saved over $250 using bing cashback!

With inherited, they would all be grayed out. When you want to remove a user(s) permission from a subfolder and they have inherited permissions, thats when you turn off inherited permissions. When you do that, it'll ask if you want to copy the existing permissions or not. If you copy them, all the same ones that were inherited will be there but you now have the option to modify them.

Whats up with the Admin privileges in windows 7? I keep getting the error telling me I need to have administrator privileges to install. Im an administrator and its usually on auto installs. There is no exe file to "run as" its usually always in program updaters.

^^Is it prompting you to authenticate with a username and password or is it just presenting you with a UAC notification box that you can click through?

Neither. Just a notification window telling me I cant with an ok button. For whatever reason the software updater thinks Im not an admin. I ended up just DL the newest version from their website and uninstalling the old version since the updater kept erroring out.

Nope. It happens within a running programs self updater. When I DL the install files from their website it works. Its all good, I got it working I just thought it was weird.

File is there, not sure if it should be in more folders. There's no (1) with it. Wait and see what happens. So far, in what five years, first problem with Apple software.

You didn't have to upgrade to 7 ultimate. You could've upgraded to any version of 7

Says you.

I could do a clean install of Win7 Pro, but I couldn't do an upgrade in place.

Question that I am too lazy to figure out on my own...

I need to fix something I may have messed up.

I have XP Pro on my OS drive. I installed W7 RC to try it out.

W7 installed a boot loader that defaults to the W7 OS each time.

W7 RC is no longer viable and I do not plan on upgrading this machine to W7 (will build new machine).

Using a partition manager, I deleted the W7 partition. It's now unallocated.

I still get the boot loader defaulting to W7 and also offering "An older verison of Windows" but...

I WOULD LIKE to not have the W7 option at all.

How do I do accomplish this?

Now, in msconfig [boot.ini] tab, I see only the XP Pro entry.

Partitions looks like:

I've never tried running these programs under XP but they might work. Since Vista Windows switched away from the boot.ini file to the bcd file. So easybcd or vistabootpro will work

Saw those, but they only address the BCD, not Boot.ini.

And I DID use the E key...

It's still using the BCD file though which is probably stored on your XP partition since that was the boot partition when 7 was first installed. The BCD file is stored on the boot partition not necessarily your default OS partition. So try running those programs to set XP as the default. BCD supersedes boot.ini and XP doesn't know anything about it since it's the older OS.

Posting from my netbook 'cause that TOTALLY hosed the OS partition...

Worked like a champ! Thanks. I had seen Neo before, but only found documentation regarding resetting the BCD back to Vista, so I didn't give it a shot. Your explanation made sense, though, and it worked! Thanks.

should i go SSD?

actually i really need more storage space, but im out of room in my case.

any suggestions on what i should do?

i was thinking of getting a NAS device that can hold 4-5 drives, but they all seem so damn expensive, even for a diskless version.

Yes, everyone should and will eventually. The best way now is to do both. Get an SSD for your OS drive and put all your programs and OS files on it. Then get a big drive for your porn, music, smut, photos, erotica, documents, fetish flicks, etc. That's what I do. I got a 750GB and 80GB SSD. You're supposed to separate your media from your OS anyways in case the OS goes you don't have to backup your shit since it's already on another drive.

Well we both know that 144GB is not enough. That means you should upgrade to maybe a three 1TB disk RAID 5 array. That'd give you 2TB of storage and a big speed improvement since a file is split among 3 drives with redundancy in case a drive is lost. I think RAID 5 is faster than RAID 0 but I'm not 100% but it's defintely faster than a mirrored RAID 1 array. Then replace your raptor with and SSD.

orly?... i think i do have room for another HD in my current case. maybe not the motherboard thou..

i was just thinking of getting another pair of 1TB or 1.5TB drives and putting them in raid 1, but no room in the case.

of course i would need to figure out where to store everything while the raid 5 array is set up..

I don't have a lot of experience with RAID but what I said should work. I'm sure someone with more experience with RAID can chime in. Anyone? Stogie, Bill, Ken, RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, Ol' Dirty Bastard?

Yeah you'll just have to store your tb of data somewhere. You got a friends PC you could use for a sec or you could buy an eternal 1TB drive and return it when you're done.

then it would probably turn up on Engadget or something. Like those I bought a PS3/iPod from walmart and it came with porn on it stories.

you could do a DoD wipe of the drive using Hard Drive Eraser. It's what I use.
