Do a clean install. What Firefox extensions do you have installed?

When you have Windows Explorer pinned to the task bar, however, and launch it from there the Explorer window opens with the focus on 'libraries' which necessitates an extra click or two to start browsing files on your drives.
This may have been in the link Stunna gave you, but right click the button and go to properties, then change Target to:

%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /n, /e, ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

when I asked her last night if she was still using firefox she said no, that she had last uninstalled it. so she re-installed it again, so far it has only crashed a couple of times. it's definitely an improvement, enough for her to go back to using it. the extensions are

skype extension for firefox
realplayer recordings plugin 1.0
microsoft.net framework assistant
avg safesearch 8.5.0.424

it's not too bad at this point, but I always appreciate any help offered.
my vista 64 dropping the internet connection has been more of a pain. it's a usb bangle that I have installed and reinstalled the driver and updates for multiple times. I checked my usb sleep settings none of them are set to powersaver mode. it drops the connection when plugged into any of the ports, and usually after the computer has been to "sleep". although it has dropped while I was online, I often stream online radio while surfing, so I can tell as soon as the connections cut. I bought the wireless bangle originally for the xp computer and it never had this problem, that's why I'm suspicious of vista being related.

In regards to your wireless not working in Vista have you upgraded to service pack 2? I thought that was supposed to fix that. Have you updated your drivers?

Lastly, I hope you guys got in on the Windows 7 Family Pack thing cause it's gone now! Apparently it either sold out of the limited quantity they were offering or the time expired even though there was no set expiration date.

So

Damit! I really wanted to get in on that too! May have to hit the office stores tomorrow to see if they have any copies hidden behind a Hallmark Greeting Card Creator box.

So I've got an 80GB SSD as my OS drive and I've got 4gb of RAM (do you know where I'm going with this?). I noticed that my SSD drive was already almost full already. So a ran Windirstat (recommended software in my software/tip thread) and noticed that my pagefile was taking up 4gb of space. Now I don't max out my RAM it'd be pretty hard to without running a bunch of VMs simultaneously. So do you think I'd run into any problems setting my pagefile to 200mb initial and 512mb max? Would I have a problem turning the pagefile off all together?

Can you take your pagefile off your OS drive completely? Put it on a 2nd drive/RAID.

You can do that but I wouldn't set the max that low, maybe a gig. And no you couldn't turn it off. All programs use swap (let me rephrase that, all programs allocate swap even if they don't need it, just in case)
But the nice thing with swap on an ssd drive it that it is very fast. But you can do what stogie said and put it on another drive altogether. we do that on our some of our production servers.

Yeah I thought of doing it on my other drive but it's just a typical hard drive and I'd like to keep it on my SSD. I'll set it at 1gb max. I cleaned up my drive, I got about 36gb free now, I just had a bunch of ISOs on there that should've been on my other drive. Plus I have the Office 2010 beta and Adobe Master Collection on there.

Is your CEP 3 legit or ?

Are my Nik Software products compatible with Windows 7?

Currently Nik Software products are not fully compatible with Windows 7® (32-bit and 64-bit). While most customers will not experience any issues with our products installed on a Windows 7 platform, there have been a few reports where some of the menu drop-down boxes do not work properly within the Nik Software product interfaces.

To ensure full compatibility with Windows 7, we will be releasing free updates for all our current Nik Software products (Dfine 2.0, Viveza, Color Efex Pro 3.0, Silver Efex Pro, and Sharpener Pro 3.0) for Photoshop® and Lightroom®. The free updates will be released between now and the end of December. All registered users will be contacted by email.

Anyone else using Office 2010 beta? I'm really liking the ribbon in outlook, that's the program I'm using most right now. Here's a good video that was made using PPT 2010 showing some of the new DirectX graphics capabilities

I have been using outlook, it is nice. Only with the beta, they have a lot of debug turned on and it is killing my machine. It is an older machine.

Quick question for anyone that’s playing with the Office 2010 beta. Does Outlook 2010 allow you to save email messages as PDF files? I know Word, Excel, and so forth have this functionality, but I’m having trouble finding any mention of whether or not Outlook has this feature. Office 2007 SP2 added save as PDF functionality but not for Outlook. Hence my question as to whether 2010 may be the same.

Nope!

must have something to do with emails being HTML. Not that that's preventing it since OS X can save HTML pages as PDFs but then PDF support is built into the OS and you can save anything as a PDF. MS and Adobe aren't buddy like Apple and Adobe used to be. So in much the same way that you can "print" and file in OS X to PDF you can "print" any file (including email) to MS's PDF competitor XPS

Thanks for checking Stuanna. I have a department that will be in need of routinely outputting emails as PDFs next year. I was just trying to ascertain whether they actually need to purchase Acrobat Pro or not.

OK, next issue.

Has anyone seen if it's possible to launch the control panel (or a specific control panel) from a command line in Windows 7. This was common knowledge in XP but the game appears to have changed completely with this in Vista and Win 7. I litterally just started searching for this two minutes ago so the answer may be readily available. Considering the wealth of knowledge here though...

I have a machine that has its shell set to a 3rd party application. This was done on purpose and isn't the problem. The problem is, something installed on the machine is preventing the 3rd party application from setting the shell back to explorer.exe. I want to get to the Programs & Features control panel to uninstall any potential offenders. The issue is that my user interface right now is essentially the Windows task manager so I need to be able to start control panel as a new task from Task Manager's command line.

Nevermind. The other sites that said things were different with Vista & Win 7 are full of sh!t. You can still run "appwiz.cpl" from the command prompt just like XP.

I was just reading up on XPS seems interesting. Could you use XPS instead? There's a XPS viewer in IE8 and with the XPS essentials pack you can create them too and it's free.

Aw fawk, more enticement for n00bs to needlessly use animations in their slides...

I'll give you ONE rule for making a good presentation: keep it to the bare minimum.
