The touch cover is really cool and you get used to typing on it after a while, and feels more comfortable when you fold it back to hold the tablet. The type cover is the way to go though IMO if you're gonna do any gaming or real typing, plus it looks like it will hold up much longer. There is a spot on the touch cover above the keyboard area where two seams meet (and where it bends a lot), on one of the floor models it was getting loose. It wouldn't take too long for it to bubble and delaminate on you.

Intel reveals details of new Silvermont microarchitecture
http://www.neowin.net/news/intel-rev...roarchitecture
Could be a good tablet CPU...
In April, Intel revealed that the next version of its Atom processor family, code named Bay Trail, would be available inside products, including Windows 8 tablets and hybrids, by the end of 2013. Today, the company talked about the microarchitecture that Bay Trail and other processors will use, which has the code named Silvermont. It's the first major change in Intel's low power design since 2008.
Intel's press release said that chips with the Silvermont microarchitecture will be made with the 22nm Tri-Gate SoC process and will have up to three times the performance of chips that use the current Atom microarchitecture. At the same time, the Silvermont setup will lower a chip's power consumption by up to five times that of the current Atom chip.
Atom processors with the Silvermont microarchitecture will be able to have as many as eight cores, although it's likely that any Windows tablets that use chips with the Silvermont design will have around two to four cores. The first Bay Trail chips, for example, will have four cores, and Intel says that other versions of Bay Trail may be used in entry-level laptops and even in desktops with "innovative form factors."
In addition to Bay Trail, Intel will use the Silvermont microarchitecture for a new family of smartphone chips, under the code name Merrifield, that will be ready by the end the year. It will also be used for chips made for micro-servers, with the code name Avoton.

The wife is in the US this week and is buying me the Surface Pro. If anyone sees another deal (like the Staples $100 one) let me know.

Windows RT will die out, it was a mistake that Microsoft can't fix. In London, the return cabinets are filled with Surface RT tablets.
Windows 8 Full and the Surface Pro is a different story. They are selling fast and reviewed very well. I get mine tomorrow Ill put my impressions here then.
Windows 8 is Windows 7, but better as far as performance and stability goes. The lack of the Start Menu and the boot to Metro is hurting it. Hopefully Blue will address that.
I have Windows 8 on Bootcamp on my Macbook Air and its awesome. Better then OSX on it in terms of speed and looks (it actually makes the display clearer).
The Surface pro for me is going to be a real computer in tablet form.

You're gonna love it . I really like the Metro start screen, it feels right on a touch screen device. On a desktop I would probably hate it because it's touch/gesture based... I hope they still give the option to boot to metro in blue.
I definitely agree with you about RT, you can't run any PC software on it and it's dependent on the app store which has very little good content.

Hooked up a HDMI to the mini DV and its a bad display, I could work on the external fine. Did firmware updates etc and the built in display comes up for a few moments and goes. Reinstalled drivers, etc, no luck. RMA sent, sucks, but rather have a good one. For the few minutes I used it, it was great. Now more waiting.....

'Small' Windows 8 tablets will ship with a free version of Office 2013
http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/5/439...rpoint-onenote
They also announced Outlook RT coming with 8.1
Microsoft has revealed that future 7- and 8-inch Windows 8 tablets will ship with a free copy of Office 2013. Speaking at Computex on Wednesday, Windows CFO Tami Reller revealed plans for Office Home and Student 2013 to be bundled with "small" Windows 8 tablets. It's up to OEMs to bundle the software, which includes access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Outlook 2013 will not be part of the free offering for smaller Windows 8 tablets, but Microsoft revealed on Wednesday that Windows RT 8.1 (that runs on ARM-based tablets) will include access to Outlook RT.
The plans follow rumors that Microsoft is cutting licensing costs for Windows and Office on small form factors to help drive interest from PC makers. So far, Acer is the only manufacturer that has opted to announce a small Windows tablet. The company unveiled its 8-inch Iconia W3 at Computex this week, noting that it ships with Office Home and Student 2013. Other manufacturers appear to be holding any 7- and 8-inch Windows tablet announcements, most likely because Microsoft is preparing a Windows 8.1 update that is designed to improve the usability of Windows on small form factors.

a 7-8 inch Surface Pro makes zero sense. Even at 10 inches, the Windows 8 programs are tough on the eyes. Running a desktop app on a 7 inch screen will not work.
The more I play with my Pro, the more I like the idea of the RT apps, as long as you have access to both. Its nice to be able to use it as a tablet here and there when needed.

I think a larger version would be nicer IMO, a 12 or 13 inch screen would be pimp. They could probably make it thinner too since there would be more room.

Only 1.5 million sold as of March? Sad.

Just the RT ones, which I predict will die off like WebOS very soon....
The Pro is just a laptop in tablet form like many others out there. Talk of a Surface 2 is going strong.
