Damn a 1TB 970 Pro as your data drive? Must be nice...
What is really crazy is that this M.2 is half the price of 64GB of RAM...

In truth, the machine will probably only ever be accessed via RDP, but the video card is there so the processor is not getting taxed for a few of the programs I need that have complex UIs, etc...
I agree, for normal home/office use 16 GB is probably enough, but I regularly exceed 30-40 GB of RAM usage on these work machines when they are chugging along, so 64 GB gives me some headroom.
HT will give you 16 threads that show up as 16 cpus in task manager. In your screen shot from post #813 you have 12 cpus showing there so I assume you have a 6 core cpu with HT. The i7-9700K will only show 8.
It looks like whatever it is that you do likes hyperthreading? You might want to goto one of the benchmarking sites to see how the i7-9700K compares to whatever CPU you currently run.
On your current system disable the hyperthreading and see how it performs compared to hyperthreading enabled.

It;s a very valid point... The 8700K gives me four extra threads, but two less physical cores than the 9700K.

If applications you mainly use are multi-threaded, Ryzen 7 2700x will have slight edge over i7 9700k. But if applications are mainly single threaded, 9700k will have the slight edge.
Starting to part out a new build. The last time I built a PC was 20 years ago.
Got a great deal on some parts at Microcenter.
Ryzen 7 1700X (8core/16thread) $140
500GB Samsung 860Evo $70
Aorus Gaming 5 Wifi X470 MOBO $129
Honestly, a 6core 2600 would have fit the bill but I guess they are clearing inventory on Gen1 Ryzen and $140 is an amazing price.
I went with the Aorus Gaming 5 because it was the cheapest MOBO I could find with 2x2 wifi.
Will be looking for RAM, GPU, case, monitor deals coming into Black Friday.
Can anyone recommend a 27" gaming monitor that doesn't break the bank? Not sure if I want 1080P or 1440P. Not sure what graphics card to get if 1440P? I will probably go with AMD GPU/Freesync monitor because cheaper.

Didn't plan on building an RGB system but looks to be turning out that way. Just ordered 16GB CORSAIR Vengeance RGB Pro.
All that's left now is case/psu/monitor/keyboard/mouse. I think I will go with a Logitech RGB keyboard/mouse. I have that on my other PC and like it.
If you have an AmEx card, get the Amazon Business AmEx credit card and get a $100 Amazon ($125 if Prime member) gift card. You should get approved immediately. No hard pull if you already have AmEx card. No need to unfreeze credit profile. Use Amazon gift card to get other parts.
Went with an NZXT H500 case (they have 10% off + free ship on nzxt.com today with blackfriday code), and a corsair CX550M from Newegg, $30 after rebate.
I think I'm going with the monitor Stunna recommended. Still deciding on if I want 24" or 27".
BTW, I love that Walgreens can be used as a FedEx ship location. No worries about someone jacking something off of my porch.
im gonna assume that people are selling off their mining parts so they’ve probably been heavily used.
But does it matter for a casual gamer and for video editing?
Keep an eye on slickdeals, RX580s are there pretty frequent. I saw an 8GB one for $185 a week or so ago. I really like the Sapphire, the fans are quiet. The EVGA 1060SC single fan I put in my Dell Precision sounds like it wants to take off.
