I forgot I had posted my build on this forum. A small update that I've done 4-5 months ago.
The biggest hype at the time was the EVGA 1080 FTW cards. I kept trying to purchase (2x) of these at the time. I kept getting email notifications that they were in stock by the manufacture, but they kept selling out less than a two mins after the email. I decided to purchase (2x) MSI Geforce 1070 Gaming X cards instead. I got a better deal on them since most graphics card buyers were still holding out for the 1080 cards. The new cards were to replace my old (2x) Geforce 960 Gaming 4G cards. The new cards were slightly longer and had better cooling fans. Fitting them into my case was a bit of a PITA. Overall, 5 months later running SLI with them, zero issues. They keep up very well and stay cool. There are a few times you can hear them kick up the RPM's on the fans, but rarely do. At normal use (Not gaming) they are very quiet. The quality is great vs the 960 cards. Playing Dying light or Doom at highest settings, has incredible details vs what the 960 cards handled. I only have a few pictures of the setup.
6 months later and I finally have everything that I need for my first build outside of a CPU cooler. Most of the reviews I read about coolers seem to be pretty hit or miss. Do you guys thinks the CPU cooler in my part list goes well with the rest of the items?

I took a stab last night at getting started on this build. I've got all of the major components on for the most part, but haven't finished wiring everything. Ran into two issues that may or may not even be issues.
1) My cooler has a 3 pin connector and my motherboard has a 4 pin slot. I simply attached it and left one of the pins unattended. Am I hurting anything by doing this?
2) The cooler I got is very, very large. This has resulted in it being a very tight fit. I was going to mount the cooler from the top due to its size, but the RAM gets in the way. I'm really not trying to pick up another cooler unless I absolutely have to....
1. No. You'll lose the ability for the bios to use PWM (pulse width modulation) to control the fan. There should be a line on the mobo next to the pin connector which shows you which 3 pins to connect to. It should also be noted in the manual.
Should be fine for 3/4 pin thing. If you don't plug the cpu cooler connector into the motherboard connector for the CPU cooler, then your computer might throw an error. I would leave cooler as is as well if its not touching anything. Clearance issues are normal.
I'd focus on cable management when after you have all the parts hooked up.
I'd drop the expensive case for a cheaper one and apply those funds saved towards either jumping to a maxwell series video card or a nicer HSF and some extra nice case fans.
Air > water IMO! It's just not worth it. I'd take my Noctua over any of the corsair water kits any day.
64GB of ram????? I'd save the money and stick with 32. Like that's too much to begin with. Apply those funds towards raiding a second EVO or straight up saving it.
Was browsing through this thread and chuckled at this... Just grabbed a screen capture from this exact machine as it chews through data right now...
That's what happens if you smoke indoors. I know a guy who smokes a lot of pot in his apartment, his PC is just as bad. I scrape off that shit from the back of his PC case fan and give it back to him so put it in his bong and smoke it again LOL
No, air. Seems to be doing fine with it (knock on wood), and I don't have the worry about the water system failing.
I would love to get a portable AC unit to blow on the two work machines, but getting approval to vent into the plenum space is like trying to get the name Tuttle changed to Buttle in the movie 'Brazil'.
Oh man, late night Azine browsing and I find a place I can share my build. Last year I ditched console completely because I was tired of playing Destiny and Overwatch on a controller. The bulk of my build really were the monitors. I needed a sharp and fast main monitor for gaming and photography, and also for text editing when I'm working from home.
Very nice! I grabbed a pair of 27" QHD Asus monitors that have excellent color and contrast. It's incredible what you can get for only a few hundred these days.
Overkill by design, yeah. If everything is a little overkill, I generally don't have crap failing me. Stability is the #1 priority for these machines. Power is #2.
