They take up to 30% on App purchases and subscription fees. That isn't the problem in this case in particular, but you can see why Spotify is/will be suing Apple as a monopolist. In order to compete with Apple Music, Spotify has to make 30% less than Apple Music, which is completely unfair.
New feature in iOS 13 “Optimized Battery Charging” it doesn’t charge past 80% until just before you wake up. Apple says that your iPhone will “learn from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it.”
This is like what Tesla recommends, don't leave your battery at 100% charged unless you're ready to use it. Tesla drivers usually cap home charging at 80-90% (user customizable), and it will display an warning message if you continually charge your vehicle to 100%.
I was actually reading up on this a few days ago.
The left graph shows how a battery's capacity changes over thousands of charge cycles depending on how charged it was. If you always charge a battery to 100% (Blue line) then it loses battery capacity much quicker than if you were to only charge it to 80% (red line). Apple doesn't use the exact same batteries as Tesla cars, slightly different battery chemistry, Apple focuses on quick charge times vs longevity since most people get a new phone every couple years and iPhone batteries are relatively cheap to replace, but the principles are still the same. So leaving it at 80% overnight and then charging up to 100% just before you wake up and start using it again seems to be a good solution.
Does anyone have (or have access to) an iPhone running iOS9? Preferably an iPhone 6 Plus, but that's less important. If so, please PM me, I have a couple of questions.
Alternately, is there somewhere I can go to see the basic functionality of older versions of iOS? I need to explore the exact process to delete SMS (individual and several at once) and possibly create screen captures. Any web based simulators?
There's a new feature in FaceTime you can enable that uses ARKit to make your eyes look like you're looking at the camera when they're actually looking down at the screen.
XS/XR only

Earlier today, Apple released the third developer betas of iOS 13, iPadOS 13, tvOS 13, watchOS 6 and macOS Catalina. While new betas are usually focused mostly on performance improvements and bug fixes, it’s not uncommon for new features to be discovered.
While looking into the code changes between iOS 13 beta 2 and iOS 13 beta 3, we noticed some new assets in the Setup app – which runs when you set up a new device for the first time or after a reset. These new assets could suggest that Apple is working on a new way to transfer data between devices.
Currently, when you set up a new iOS device, you can restore it from an iTunes backup or from an iCloud backup. The second option can be sped up by having another iOS device next to the new one, logged in to your Apple ID account. This allows your data to be transferred wirelessly.
New assets and strings found in iOS 13 beta 3 suggest Apple is working on a way to transfer data from another iOS device directly, using a cable. One of assets shows an image of two iPhones connected to each other using a cable. It’s unclear how this could be achieved exactly given that current iPhones feature a Lightning port and Apple does not offer a Lightning-to-Lightning cable.
We tried to make the new transfer options appear on a device running iOS 13 developer beta 3 by resetting the device and doing the setup process manually, but no new options showed up. It’s possible that the new data transfer methods are not ready yet or are being worked on for unreleased devices.
My hunch is that there'll be USB Type-C with the new iPhone
I actually have no idea, I do not work on the iPhone
I was hoping it would be USB-C with the XS. Would be about time, so I could have just one type of cable. Airpods case seemingly can accommodate a USB-C cable already.

What exactly do you do for Apple.
Sounds like something at the bottom of the totem pole since you never know anything useful
The 2019 iPhone lineup doesn't seem to offer big enough changes, if you already own a 2018 iPhone XS or XS Max, if you ask me.
I'm thinking that there is a greater than ever chance that I'm going to skip a year. Even though I've said that a few times in the past and still always upgraded, I'm thinking I really will not upgrade this fall.
Especially now that iOS 13 has sorted the cellular modem rather well.

I'll be honest, I own wayyyy too much Apple stuff but I am genuinely concerned about the block camera design on the back. That is a whole lot of exposed glass even in a case.
I want to ride this generation out and wait for a more normal upgrade in 2020 from my XS.

I'm not. The cameras are usually protected by sapphire glass. And your screen is a much larger exposed piece of glass, and they hold up quote well.
With iOS 13 Apple devices can auto join your iPhones hotspot if it doesn’t detect a WiFi network that it knows, and they stay connected, no need to reconnect after you wake your iPad up after 15 minutes.
makes using the WiFi iPad almost as seamless as the iPad w/LTE. Turn on hotspot on your iPhone, iPad joins right away and stays connected.
Includes 10 GB 4G LTE hot spot at full speed on my main field number, plus HD streaming (1024) up to 50 GB. :-)
I have to admit that there is a very slight advantage to Verizon's geographic coverage, but it is not that big a difference, and certainly not enough to pay Verizon prices. I know about the geographic coverage in real time because my physical SIM is Xfinity Mobile (Verizon MVNO).
