Everything I've been reading says that it was always scheduled to have the 25th as the last day. So, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

 

I just sell my old Apple stuff and buy the latest. Much easier.

 

I wasn't looking to buy a new machine. But since my battery is shot to shit...might as well try and take advantage.

Most people dont upgrade as often as you , either.

A friend of mine is a big Apple fan to say the least. She upgrades for every new phone on the release date. Never sells. Has every one in perfect condition.

I sell my last years model and get the new ones. No need to keep old junk. Currently I have a 2017 13 inch Pro, 2017 12 in MacBook, iPhone 7plus, Watch Series 2, Apple TV 4, iPad Pro 10.5

 

So a 1 year old laptop is considered junk to you?!??? must be nice.

My 13" with Touch Bar decided to grenade itself and won't turn on. Guess I'll see tomorrow what the diagnosis is and how long it will take to fix. I had a custom config (processor and RAM) so if they have to replace the logic board it had to be one with those specs since everything is non-replaceable now.

 

You know how Honda had a perfectly good Accord and then they announced the 2018 version? The current MBPs are like that.

 

Yup. Getting a newer rmbp for the cost of a battery replacement. They said it would be a 2015. But they also said it was space grey and that didn't start until 2016...so we'll see which one shows up.

Initial impressions:

I miss magsafe. But I do like that I have the option to power from whatever side is more convenient at time.

The touchbar is still a gimmick and it forces you to take your eyes off the screen. Not sure if I'll come on this one or not.

I like the touch ID

New touchpad is great. Getting used to the haptic feedback, odd feeling at first.

LOVE the new keyboard. feels nice and has loud clicks. Not sure why so many people bitched about apple switching to this new style.

Finally get use features such as universal clipboard, awesome.

Space grey look nice and sleek. Speed seems fine. Doesn't feel any faster or slower than my 4-5 year old machine, though Im sure its a bit faster. Haven't really thrown anything at it to test that.

Overall, I like it. Had the part constraint not come about, I would have probably just paid for a new battery for my old laptop and been happy to continue with that. I don't think I would have been excited to pay $3g for this but for $200 I'm happy as a pig in shit.

Still not a fan of the OS but damn Apple makes good looking hardware.

 

The keyboard if I recall is the 2nd generation bufferfly design. It's different than the 1st gen design on the 12" MacBook

 

Just bought the 15" 2017 model and I can confirm this. My wife has the 12" Macbook and the keys have quite a different travel feel than mine does.

I too miss Magsafe. It's so funny how reviewers loved that magsafe was gone because it was a life saver at times for me.

I never use the touch bar

 

I use it occasionally. It's a bit better than just function keys, but not a ton better.

 

I only use it when I accidentally hit something on it that I don't want to

 

I might start using it a bit more now that it looks like Chrome is supposed to support it. I haven't tried it yet, though.
