Apple to Release Updated MacBook Air and Mac Pro Models This Week?
Monday July 11, 2011 12:38 pm PDT by Eric Slivka
9 to 5 Mac reports that reliable tipster "Mr. X" has revealed that Apple will be releasing new MacBook Air and Mac Pro models this week alongside OS X Lion.
According to Mr. X, Apple will be releasing four new MacBook Air models, appearing to match up with the current lineup of two stock configurations each in the 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. MacBook Air updates have been expected within this general timeframe for some time now, and Apple is said to have been holding the release until it can ship the new machines with OS X Lion preinstalled. The new models include:
MC965LL/A - K21, BETTER, BTR-USA
MC966LL/A - K21, BEST, BTR-USA
MC968LL/A - K78, BETTER, BTR-USA
MC969LL/A - K78, BEST, BTR-USA
On the Mac Pro side, Apple again appears to following its existing lineup with three standard stock configurations alongside a dedicated "Server" configuration. Reports had been suggesting that the Mac Pro would see a refresh in late July or early August, so Apple's appears to be a bit ahead of that schedule provided that it is indeed shooting for a release this week.
MC936LL/A - J40, ULTIMATE - USA
MC815LL/A - J40, BETTER - USA
MC816LL/A - J40, BEST - USA
MC914LL/A - J59, BEST - USA
Mr. X has not offered a specific release date for the new machines, but it appears that Apple may be targeting this Thursday, July 14th for the hardware launch alongside OS X Lion.

I wonder if the new MBAs will have backlit keys like the original MBA. That's the one thing I miss between my 1st and 2nd gen MBAs. May not be worth selling for a new one though...

So jealous. I have the earlier model with the 512MB graphics card. Haven't tried running games on it yet, but I can imagine yours running games very well. Mine also has the dual 2.8 I7 IIRC. Is yours dual 3.4 chips?
Yeah, I got the 3.4 i7. I'm hoping that my machine will run Dora's Big Birthday Adventure without any problems. My daughter loves that game everytime we go to the Apple store.
New MacBook Airs Coming 'Late Next Week'
Jul 14, 2011 2:52 pm PDT by Arnold Kim
AllThingsD weighs in on the MacBook Air rumors that have been circulating the past few weeks. They claim that the long awaited MacBook Air will arrive "late next week" according to "several sources".
Several sources indicate that the company plans to uncrate the eagerly anticipated updates to its MacBook Air line late next week. “The rumor sites are off by a week,” one source said.
AllThingsD says to look for an announcement Thursday or Friday and that the new MacBook Airs will sport a Thunderbolt port, backlit keyboards, and 128GB and 256GB storage options.
As we pointed out before, Apple will have to release OS X Lion at the same time or before the new hardware releases. So, expect OS X Lion sometime next week as well.
