^I really think you need to do a fastboot -w udpate to fix your issues. I'm not having any of those problems and from what I'm reading, people who did a factory reset are still having the same issues as you while those that did a clean install aren't. Something must've been left behind from the update that's messing up people's configuration. Its a hassle to do the fastboot -w update but I like to start clean once in a while and apparently in this case avoids all the problems that people are having. Just have to set up the drivers and SDK but that's a one time thing. 4.2.1 is rolling out right now to the 4 and 10 but I doubt they did anything to fix people's issues as its only 1.1 MB big and it was supposed to address the missing December issue in the People app.
Its like all other video types, just drag and drop. MX Player should do it fine. Just install the proper codec for it. The Nexus 7's processor is an ARMv7 variant. Any of the video players in the Play Store will work just as fine as well. I had issues transferring some MKVs to my internal before but I never figured it out. I think it had something to do with MTP not liking the transfer for whatever reason but I never really went in too deep to figure it out. I ended up just streaming it off one of my computers and it worked fine. ADB push also seemed to work fine but dragging and dropping ended up with Windows Explorer crashing all times. That was on one MKV file but I rarely watch that many MKV movies so not sure how widespread of an issue it might be.
Here's more info on the MKV Explorer Crash when transferring:

It seems that there are a few ways to get around it. Put the MKV on a USB stick and use an OTG to read the video, upload it to the cloud and stream off there, stream off a computer or some say rename the .mkv extension into something else then rename it back once its on the device.

Tegra 2 users will need to non-NEON version.

Anyone here pick up a Nexus 10 yet? I'm on the market for a tablet and I'm really leaning towards this device. I'm looking to make the purchase very soon but very curious to hear thoughts and impressions from those who have already taken the plunge.
Finally, off of Ebay... no sales tax.
Nevertheless, I don't think you'll go wrong with the Nexus 10.
anyone heard about this $240 quad core tablet with a "retina-like" display?

So I have finally decided that I am going to pickup an Asus Infinity after the holiday. I know it has its issues but it seems that once you root it and flash CleanROM on it that it is a completely different animal. I like the keyboard dock and the ability to use full size SD cards as well. My only fear is something new coming out at CES from Asus to replace it but then it probably won't be out till this summer and I will continue to be stuck in the waiting game of new tech. It should be a good upgrade though over my HP TouchPad at least.
I'm thinking of getting a Nexus 7 for my parents for the holidays, would 16 gigs be enough for them or should I go with the 32 gigs?
They would use it mostly for web surfing, emails, youtube, and MAAAYBE movies?

Oh just to add this in there, the 32 GB seems to go on sale every now and then on eBay. The only problem would be the shipping time:

Yeah I keep seeing the 32gb deals going down in price. Unless it hits $200 or lower, I won't bite because the shipping time will be nightmare with numbers bought in the 5000s
I just taught my mom Angry Birds, and yeah........ no intention of going any further with more complicated games lol. Can't be both their tech and game support person!

I don't use Instagram, but just a FYI, they can/will start selling your photos without your consent, and no, you won't get compensated

I still can't believe people are fooled by the whole "retina" thing. I always hear people mention things are nice but it's not a "retina", jeez people it's just an IPS display!
The Play Store would allow the best return/warranty related things because Google will take care of that for you. However, the 16 GB Nexus 7 is sold out and all variants of the Nexus 10 are sold out. Staples, Office Depot and other Brick and Mortar stores should have them available. However, the return policy will be dependent on the store and any warranty related stuff will have to be done through the respective manufacturers, ASUS and Samsung instead of through Google. eBay purchases will most likely have to go through ASUS and Samsung directly.
The Play Store is sold out of the entire Nexus line (4/7/10). Interestingly enough, the local Walmart by me says they can have it shipped to the store within 24 hours....
I really hope my wife has one of these packed in xmas box for me! ;-)

Do it. You could always unroot any time. ASUS puts up their firmwares on their website and its pretty simple to flash back to stock if needed.

The problem is you have to go to the ASUS sight and unlock it on their site first which completely voids the warranty. I am not worried I would have a problem flashing roms but rather worried of possible hardware issues.
I am looking to pick up the nexus 7. I am getting tired of holding the ipad when reading books. I got a $250 gift card from my company and I am looking to get myself a gift but the stupid thing is newegg the cost with shipping is $250.99 and they cannot take 2 forms of payment.
Oh well I guess I will go to the local Staples and pay $20 tax.

True...I was in a time crunch and wanted the tabs asap hence opted for play store as the 2 day shipping is included in the price
but if I had no hurries, I would have gone with a different website

Just got my Nexus 7 3g and couldn't be more pleased with it. I did have to get it through the Play store, but the shipping turn around was outstanding. Ordered it Thursday afternoon and it arrived yesterday. In some ways its remarkably similar to my Galaxy Tab 7+ running CM10, expect everything works and the keyboard doesn't crash chrome!
