^Will apps and games have to be written just for Tegra 3 or will all apps on the android market work on ARM chips and Tegra chips?

All apps should be backwards compatible since Froyo. At least with Tegra 2 and the other CPUs they all work between Honeycomb and Gingerbread so long the dev codes for it using the Fragments API. Android was always built to be screen/CPU agnostic.

The only difference really comes in the games being exclusive to certain GPUs as that's more a limitation of shaders/processing power in certain graphics cards. With that said, if you have root access, you can play Tegra 2 games on non-Tegra 2 devices, PowerVR games on non-PowerVR devices and Snapdragon games on non-Snapdragon devices with a free app from Chainfire. All the Tegra and Snapdragon exclusive games I've played worked perfectly fine on my Galaxy S' PowerVR GPU even though they're not supposed to. Its more of a marketing thing really but otherwise there isn't any real problems besides acquiring the games.

ASUS Transformer 2 details:

Wondering about the whereabouts of the Eee Pad Transformer 2? It’s right there in Asus CEO Jonney Shih’s hands — except we’re hearing it’s called the Transformer Prime. (Hasbro might have something to say about that.) Shih took the stage this morning at Asia D to talk about the company’s direction and brought along a suitcase with its new quad-core Nvidia Kal-El tablet inside. Like its predecessor, the Transformer 2 has a 10-inch screen and keyboard dock, but this slate measures just 8.3mm thick, and sports USB and mini-HDMI ports, an SD slot and a 14.5-hour battery. Shih said it will be arriving on November 9th, though he didn’t specify it would be launching with ICS. Check out the gallery after the break as well as Asus’ teaser video. In the meantime, we will be trying our hardest over here to get a hands-on with that slim looking tablet.

Padfone tablet is coming early next year. I'm not sure if its the one he's holding in this pic:

http://thisismynext.com/2011/10/19/a...ream-sandwich/

It looks nice. Almost like the ultra notebooks they just released.

And with Tegra 3 being a pentacore, man that thing will fly. TIMN says its quad but Nvidia says there's an extra core for low power states:

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Quad-...y-jobs_id22293

They also managed to make it thinner than the Galaxy Tab. I just hope ASUS doesn't neglect the first gen Transformer. I need my ICS! I was hoping the dock could be reused since they said that it would be. Maybe for the Padfone.

Oh also, XDA is trying to get a hold of Windows 8 build running on a Tegra 3 device. If they can do this, dual boot into windows 8 and ICS!

Is Honeycomb any better then GB for tablets? I have GB 2.3 on my Flyer and its ok. Not earth shattering.

Honeycomb is pretty similar to ICS. Is it better than GB? That depends. The apps that are made specifically for Honeycomb are really nice and there are a good number out there now. Otherwise, the majority of people won't notice the differences as fragments help gap the divide between Gingerbread and Honeycomb and will further be reduced in ICS. Everything that worked in Gingerbread should work in Honeycomb so you don't really lose anything by upgrading. It also brings Hardware acceleration to tablets.

Yeah Jonny Shih mentioned they'd get ICS out before the end of the year. With the updates they've pushed so far, I believe them. ASUS has been on top of the game with updates. Almost as fast as the Xoom.

More ASUS Transformer Prime info:

For three weeks now, Android fans have been fidgeting impatiently. Specifically, ever since ASUS chairman Jonney Shih took the stage at last month's AsiaD conference and teased the next-gen Transformer tablet. Though he only gave us a quick glimpse, he recited a laundry list of specs: a 10.1-inch display, 8.3mm-thick body, mini-HDMI output, microSD slot and an update to Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of the year, if not sooner. Not to mention, it'll be the first tablet packing NVIDIA's hot-off-the-presses Tegra 3 SoC, making it the first-ever quad-core tablet. We knew this: we'd learn more on November 9th.

Well, that day has come, and so have the juicy details. We just got word that the tablet will go on sale worldwide in December, starting at $499 with a beefy 32GB of storage, moving up to $599 for a 64GB model. (That signature keyboard dock you see up there will cost $149.) In addition to those basic specs Mr. Shih revealed last month, we now know this has a 1280 x 800, Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass display with a 178-degree viewing angle and a max brightness of 600 nits. It also packs 1GB of RAM, GPS, a gyroscope, SonicMaster audio and a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera. Rounding out the list is an 8MP shooter with an auto-focusing f/2.4 lens and a back-illuminated CMOS sensor that captures 1080p video. Touch-to-focus is also an option here, and ASUS claims a 30 percent boost in color enhancement over competing tabs.

As for battery life, we initially heard reports of 14.5-hour runtime, but ASUS is now saying the tablet alone can squeeze out 12 hours thanks to a 22Wh battery, and that the dock will add an additional six hours of juice. In addition, the slimmed-down, 1.2-pound dock brings all the other benefits the last-gen model offered, including a touchpad, USB 2.0 port and full-sized SD slot. Software-wise, it'll ship with Android 3.2 and apps such as SuperNote and Polaris Office, and we're told we'll learn more about that ICS update in "early December."

In terms of design, you may have already noticed the Prime sports the same spun aluminum digs as the company's Zenbooks, though this is the first time we're seeing clear, close-up shots of it -- and in two colors, no less! At 8.3mm (0.33 inches) thick and 586 grams (1.29 pounds) without the dock, it's a smidge skinnier than the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, which means, unsurprisingly, that your old Transformer dock won't be compatible. Finally, ASUS coated both the display and metal cover with a hydro-oleophobic coating that makes it more fingerprint-resistant. For now, we've got photos below and if you can wait a few more weeks, we'll most definitely be putting this thing through its paces in a full review. And if you're looking for something a little less expensive, well, the original Transformer should be getting Ice Cream Sandwich soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if Santa brought a few holiday rebates.

Man the specs sound amazing on this. I think I should've waited to pull the trigger on my ASUS Transformer. lol. Although, I'm enjoying the recent updates ASUS has pushed out and they're fast with the updates. Hopefully they stay quick with the updates.

Yeah the specs on Tegra 3 look amazing:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/09/n...shots-to-prov/

I think Honeycomb should've came out with Tegra 3 from the start. Its crazy how much they improved compared to Tegra 2 in such a short amount of time. Tegra 3 is also supposedly going to future Android phones. Will be looking forward to that.

I so hope this company releases their app already for true multitasking:

That way the devs can port it over if ASUS doesn't have it. lol. Maybe Jelly Bean will bring it in the next update.

I posted in the Android thread but maybe here it is more appropriate. Cliffs: HDMI for Flash to my big screen (no VGA on my DLP), cheapest, decent processor, expendable memory. I'm thinking A100 for $350 and Archos G9 for $300. I won't buy at these prices but these will probably get knocked down closer in the low $200 range sooner.

So the XDA people have been able to install GApps and the Android Market onto the Kindle Fire:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1349902

Whoever has a Kindle Fire might want to grab them fast before Google issues a cease and desist. Although, they're pretty easy to find all over the internet nowadays.

Yeah if only the memory was expandable. I can understand no HDMI due to cost but 8GB can go fast even with no music and just apps.

the only problem with rooting your Kindle Fire is losing all the connectivity with Amazon's services and that would make the tablet useless to me.

What I haven't seen anyone mention is using a program to rename the root files and then renaming it back when root is needed using an app to bypass the check by Amazon:

https://market.android.com/details?i...GVvcy5yb290Il0.

This is the same method people use to watch movies on Google Videos which also does a root check. It'll probably work but I don't have a Kindle so I'm not sure. If that doesn't work then I'm sure someone at XDA will figure out like they always do. lol.

You could pick up a used Transformer, I got a good deal on a practically brand new one and it's fantastic. The dock from NewEgg (on sale for $99) came in the mail today and it's really nice, I'm typing on it right now.

I know the new one is right around the corner but the current one is still great, and a great deal for a solid Honeycomb tablet. Plus Asus really backs up their products with updates, which is nice (I have a Samsung phone...).

Actually $250 at Best Buy on Black Friday and dock is $99 at Newegg right now. Really good price IMO. Gotta get there early though cause I think each BB will only have 10 each.

I'm not sure if I'll get a tablet after all. I might just a get Revue because I want HBO Go, browser, and Flash on my HDTV. I'm happy with my iPhone screen size. Decisions

What's the deal with SD Card support on these honeycomb tablets? Read only? How do you copy files from internal storage to the sd card on 3.2.1?
