- I mentioned that you'll need a pit file but I'm actually mistaken. Because the TAR file contains everything and is not separated out like other ODIN files are, you can just flash just the PDA file without the need for a pit file. Just check PDA and point to the ROM.tar file and flash away. Exactly like the video does.
- The ROM I linked from Megaupload is a non-wipe version. If he wants to reset everything to default, he should get the Wipe version found in that Androidcentral link:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epic...tml#post761525
He could also just do a factory wipe after installing it but its probably better to download the Wipe version of the ROM.
- In the YouTube video guide I posted, it tells you to run One Click Root after flashing DK28. Because the ROM posted in Android Central are already pre-rooted and use CWM recovery, he can skip this step and the rest of the video.
So in short, the steps to restore with ODIN are as follows:
1. Install Galaxy S USB Drivers
2. Put phone into download mode
3. Open up ODIN and select PDA --> Point to the ROM.tar file
4. Uncheck F. Reset Time and Repartition (because he;s not using a pit file)
5. Attach the USB cable to the phone and he'll see a yellow COM port just like the video and hit Start.
6. Do NOT pull the cable at any point before ODIN finishes as it can really brick the phone. Flashing the new ROM can take anywhere between 1-10 minutes.
7. It should reboot on its own and it'll be a fresh stock EC05 Froyo ROM with root access and CWM recovery.

I've been getting insane battery life with Samsung's Gingerbread ROM. Here I have, Autosync On, Autobrightness, Data On, TweetDeck syncing every 30 minutes, Foursquare notifying me when friends check in, 30 minutes of phone calls, texting every now and then, browsed the internet for a good 20 minutes and I still have ~67% of battery life after 12 and half hours. If I keep going at this rate, I won't need to charge until tomorrow afternoon.
I'm using Fugumod kernel and actually using a non-optimized version of his kernel and I'm pulling some great numbers. Samsung just released another Gingerbread update today that fixes a few more things so they probably optimized it a little more which I plan on upgrading to later. I'm also waiting on the Speedmod kernel to be implemented which have even more battery tweaks.

Here is a stats comparo of the latest/upcoming dual core phones...
Hopefully the S2 comes to Tmo. Also, another reason I took back the G2x is because it won't work on ATT's bands as promised.

Wow they just announced a lot of stuff at I/O. I'm so jealous of the people getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Devs are probably creaming their pants with all the stuff they announced today. So many new possibilities.

what was really interesting was the Senate Committee hearing on mobile privacy! that shit was great! If was like the tech version of the committee hearing on steroids where they had bonds, mcguire, sosa, palmiero and canseco up there. it was good, google and apple got ripped a new one, though mainly it was google.

Not sure what impresses you then cause I saw a lot of new things not being implemented by any platform at the moment like that Android @ Home feature. That alone has a lot of potential.
For those who have used the Tasker app for Android, think of this as using your phone to automate tasks at home or any where for that matter. Lots of other possibilities with this idea. This is the evolution of phone accessories. Not just to cover and protect your phone but now making them do things as well.

Same here. Hopefully it goes through soon. I wanna run this through its paces.
50 GB of music space with the ability to offline cache and access it on the web or your phone anywhere. Want. My questions is, how much it'll be after beta. I guess its good Google does Betas for a while though. lol.

The Google Movie is pretty interesting. Wish they had a subscription based version like Netflix though. But then again, I guess the movie selection is a bit better plus the ability to download it to your phone or tablet for offline viewing later on. Pretty nice idea but I don't see me using this unless I had a tablet or Google TV.

Also glad that they're finally forming a group to oversee updates. The 18 months to cover you for upgrades is a good move for those who keep crying about fragmentation and never even used an Android device. lol. Most consumers don't even know what version of Android they have and really not much has changed between Gingerbread and Froyo after having spent some time with it. Hoping to see some more details about Ice Cream Sandwich since its the integration of the phone and tablet into one.
#2738
Oh also for the Galaxy S owners who are interested in Cyanogenmod. They just got 720P recording and fixed the rear and FFC to do video talk with Google Talk. Haven't tried it yet cause I'm still on Touchwiz Gingerbread but I plan on updating to it this weekend. It should work on the Captivate and Vibrant as well. I think they just began porting it over to the Fascinate right now and I'm not sure about the Epic. Only a few more bugs left before Cyanogenmod is fully complete.

waiting for my invite also! Although I cant see me using music beta when it costs money cause I dont have that much music that I cant put it all on my phone haha.
Probably wont use the movie rentals unless I'm traveling or something, but nice to have the option.
Cant wait for Ice Cream!!!! And all the stuff google has planned!! With that home thing and basically using your device to control the world!
Developers better be going crazy right now and make me some nice stuff haha

I updated my Captivate with 2.2 Froyo and I'm thinking about updating to Gingerbread.
First, do I have to flash my phone back to Eclair and it has to be rooted to install Gingerbread ?

First thing you should do is root your phone. Once you've done that, backup all your apps using Titanium Backup or some sort of backup app, then look at tutorials on how to flash ROMs. Use ROM Manager to install Clockwork Recovery onto your phone and flash ROMs the easy way by downloading the ROMs to your SD Card and then selecting them in the app:
https://market.android.com/details?i...=search_result
For the Captivate and a few other phones, you can use the one-click root method to get root. That should be good enough to install Clockwork Recovery to your phone using ROM Manager. Make sure to reboot after rooting to have it kick into effect:

If you botch the ROM upgrade, you can use ODIN to flash back to UCKB1:

Check out my post on the previous page on how to use ODIN. The Download mode keys are different from the Captivate: VolumeUp + VolumeDown + Power.

Some ideas that could be done with the announcements unveiled today at Google I/O:

Pretty awesome stuff. Can't wait to see what ideas people come up with in the future.

People running Galaxy S Gingerbread and Droid X are confirming it works for them and its not listed on Netflix's compatible devices. Maybe it'll work on a Cyanogenmod build. Of course, you'll have to root and run a custom ROM in that case. I haven't tried it yet on my Gingerbread Galaxy S cause I don't have an account. Maybe tomorrow evening, I'll borrow my gf's Netflix account.

Oh and if you need the APK and want to try it out, you can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1076150
Download it to your SD Card and install it with any file explorer. Don't need root to do this. Also, I'm sure someone at XDA will crack it to work on any device eventually. Its trial and error at this point.

Google Video Talk finally works with my Front Facing Camera on the latest CM7 nightly! I can do video or voice calls both on WiFi and 3G with the modded GTalk in XDA. Also had to use the 05032011 GApps and it works receiving and calling out. Quality was pretty good too. Didn't see an option to turn camera around but I don't think I would ever need it.
XDA devs also made upgrading to CM7 a lot simpler now if you're coming from a Froyo ROM for the i9000, Vibrant and Captivate. You just need to download one file from ROM Manager and it automatically flashes everything for you. Battery is better than before but still not as good as stock though. Netflix also works with the "device-check disabled" version. Flash performance isn't as good as stock Samsung though. It seems they've enabled some hardware acceleration in 10.3 that's not being used in CM7 yet because flash was pretty awesome on stock Samsung ROMs. I'm waiting for data to work on the Sense ROM before I try it out. Loving this phone more and more.

The Epic 4G just got another Gingerbread leak. Supposedly a lot better than previous one:

Yeah. It seems to be a select few devices. Its a step in the right direction. If you know where to get the Amazon APKs, you could always install the apps by sideloading them. That's how I do it with the adfree Angry Birds Rio because I don't want to install Amazon's market on my phone. Although that may change as Popcap is planning to release Plants vs. Zombies on Amazon first when its released in the next few weeks or I'll just sideload it again and bypass Amazon's market. lol.

I hope this rumor is not true. TMO to get this phone...
http://www.popherald.com/samsung-gal...-revealed/7079
If it's true, it's bad news for TMO peeps since the HTC Sensation has been confirmed to have locked bootloader.
While we’re still waiting for the official announcement of Samsung regarding the release date of the Samsung Galaxy S2 here in United States, a new rumor claims that the Android smartphone will hit stateside via three carriers, and will use different branding.
According to BGR, a leaked silicon gel accessory page for the dual-core powered Android smartphone is suggesting that AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint are its carriers in United States. So, no S2 for T-Mobile? Looks looks like HTC Sensation 4G will get T-Mo’s spotlight.
The said phone accessory listing is claiming that AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S2 will use the name Samsung Attain, while Verizon will use Samsung Function, and Sprint will sell the Galaxy S2 using the Samsung Within branding. All phones mentioned are expected to ship with dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 8 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front camera, slim design and will support HSUPA (if it’s really the Samsung Galaxy S2).

Yeah. CM 7.1 any way. 7.1 is running Gingerbread 2.3.4 so it supports Google Video Talk. You need to get to CM7.1 and install the 05032011 GApps found here labeled "Alternate 3":
