Speaking of overheating, I have an old DroidX I want to use as an IP camera, but the damn thing keeps shutting down after a few hours. I am assuming it's due to the camera running 24x7 and overheating the processor. Is there any good solution/app/voodoo trick to keep this from happening?

Any apps to track the internal temp so I can confirm my hypothesis?

Going on day 3 with the GS4. I had an iphone 4S before and didn't love it or hate it (it was my first Apple phone).

So far the GS4 is pretty sweet. It doesn't hesitate or stutter whatsoever. The only thing that sucks if it matters to you is that the 16gb AT&T version is loaded with almost 7gb of unremovable AT&T crap. So you are really only seeing about 9gb of space for your own stuff. You can add a micro SD, but you cant put apps on it. So keep that in mind if you need more memory.

AT&T is coming out with the 32gb GS4 this Friday, if you want to switch over and pay $50 more. And I've got to say that a firmware update less than a week after the phone is out has to be the fastest update cycle ever

Found someone I know with an HTC One today over lunch. Got to hold it and mess around with it, and it feels/looks pretty solid. Now I am 50/50 between that and the S4 again...

From the guy:

"Most of the work is being done by a new Tasker plugin called AutoVoice. I’ve tied the AutoVoice Recognize task to the Google Now swipe up.

There are a few dozen Tasker profiles setup listening for certain words and phrases, which call upon predefined tasks. These tasks vary from individual light toggles, to predefined “scenes”, triggers for the Phone itself and AutoRemote messages received by the GoogleTV, also running Tasker.

Yatse is responsible for controlling the PC running XBMC, fed through the Google TV. I can call upon movies, music or TV shows, play/pause and request volume adjustments.

The Home Automation side is controlled by a Micasaverde VeraLite home controller, pushing Z-Wave switches and modules. Android communicates with the Vera through AutHomationHD, a third party app in the Play Store via Tasker.

If you can handle Tasker, the rest is cake.

Thanks for the 32 update. I'm going to try to kill two birds with one stone. The $100 trade-in and a few months before my contract renewal. I'll pull the SD card from the S2 skyrocket and should be set... for at least six months.

can you do this remotely? Say... you realize you're going to be out of town longer than expected and you want your place to look like you're home

^^^ I would think sooo but I wouldnt want to control my home that way....

the easiest way to hack into your home and control your home if you have everything setup as over the air....

I dont mind automating my home but a smart device which is connected to the home wifi and encrypted....if you are not on the home wifi, you cannot access the system is how I would set my home up....

I don't usually keep music on my phones since I use services similar to Spotify (MOG) and Google music. MOG doesn't let you keep offline music on the SD card. Does Google music? I guess I can move my pics to the SD card right?

Google Music will let you pin songs to your internal only by default. If you have root, you can move them manually to any where you want using any file explorer.

I always prefer to put the photos on the SD card because that way it is easier when you want to take it out to go print them, or move them to another phone, or computer, etc... especially with Google Music letting you store all your music on their servers and can easily be interchangeable.

Hmm $250. I printed the $100 trade-in deal. But I have to mail the thing in and be without a phone for a few weeks. Do you think ATT will do a $100 in-store trade in and give me a S4 for $150 even though August is when my 2 year contract expires?

I doubt it but it couldn't hurt to ask especially with four lines with them.

What $100 mail in thing are you referring to?
And to your second question, signs point to yes. Just type "*639#" into your phone and it will tell you if you are eligible for an upgrade now.

1) the $100 trade-in offer that they have going. and 2) my damn phone is so lame or the user of the phone, that I can not dial 639#. It automatically catches part of my wife's phone number and places a call to it. WTF?????

1) Hmm, didn't know there was a mail-in version. Just go to the store with your old phone (or multiple ones that you want to stack up towards your new phone), give it to them, they will check to see if there is physical damage, then they plug in the IMEI and model into their iPads/computers, and spit you out a trade-in price. You can decline if the value is too low like $26, but all smartphones under 3 years old get at least $100 value. They will put all that money into a prepaid Visa card, then you just tell them to use that money towards your new phone....all of it (or some, up to you).

2) LOL you forgot to type the asterisk before that. It will spell out *NEW#
You will then get a text message with the required info.

Waiting for the next Nexus. The Nexus 4 is a disappointment so I kept my Galaxy Nexus. Love the minimal look.

The Nexus 4 is not a disappointment. US carriers are. I hate all US carriers and wish somebody would blow them all up so we can start anew.

I remember when the Galaxy Nexus was a "disappointment". And the Nexus S was also one. Disappointing relative to what? The SD card is never coming back, LTE wasn't rolled out widely enough to incorporate to a global phone, the phone is about the same size as the GN, has a faster processor, and more ram. What would have made it not a disappointment?

I'll see if i can find the article, but it was talking about North american carriers in general are the worst out there.

But they also blame the consumers as part of the problem as well. Let me see if i can find it.

you guys think the US carriers suck? How about the 3 years contract with the Canadian carriers? My gf got her iPhone 4S when it came out and is STILL under contract

(note: the 3 years contract only applies to the top tier phones, cheaper phones are 2 years)

edit: oops, I didn't see this post until later

Ya know, I've never been a fan of white phones, but after having the white GS4, I have changed my mind completely.

What got me was the nearly identical "feel" over my GN and the lack of LTE. Rooted + custom kernel made my GN feel exactly like a Nexus 4. So specs aside, I didn't see the need to keep it.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all the Nexus phones/tablets. I have the phone + tablet and couldn't be happier. I am patiently waiting for the next release.

Not laser beams. But if the phone could double as my carry gun in .45 ACP, I would have kept it.

ATT is only pitching the 32 S4 in black. Are there plans for the 32 in different colors. If so when. I want the purple the S3 comes out at Sprint.

Update:

Still loving the HTC One. It takes great pictures and video, has great speakers which I find useful for Pandora.

I've got the Nest app for the thermostat and the Irrigation Caddy app for my sprinkler system. Quite useful

the only time I use speakers on my phone is watching youtube. Pandora is always through headset or car.

Glad your liking the phone though
