Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
Ken, how exactly does that work. Do you have to hardwire something into your breaker box?

^^^ I think NEST comes pre-configured to connect to your WIFI and you can control it with your phone...
for the Sprinkler system, I bet you have to buy something so it will interface/connect your sprinkler system to the WIFI/3G which will allow you to control it....I would be interested to know more about this as well....

I won't be able to live stream it either. Will have to catch up after its done. Anyone see the news about the S4 getting a "Google Edition"?

I wish HTC would announce something similar to that with the One's design. I'd be all over it. With that said, if Google doesn't announce any interesting hardware tomorrow, I think I'm going to purchase a One tomorrow evening.

The sprinkler system was a breeze. I literally had it completely installed and configured in 10 minutes.
With Pandora, I use it a lot when reading outside. I have a pergola with some shade. As for the cars, two have bluetooth audio, the CR-Z is bluetooth phone only, so USB connection instead.
About that geek.c0m article on the GS4 GE, all I gotta say about it is LOLZ.
I anticipate a shizstorm of delusional angry people disappointed from a lack of ridiculous expectations from I/O tomorrow after the 3 hour presentation. Brace yourselves.

It looks to be a good or even great phone. But it's not this 'groundbreaking' device like they're trying to claim to be.
Sorry but Samsung doesn't have Steve Jobs nor his Reality Distortion Field.

I just expect it to be for developers, and thats whats been said also. There will be new services, and things probably for developers but nothing really changing to the OS.
I hope they announce the Nexus 7. I keep going between should i get the 7 or wait for the 10. I dunno what size I want. When I'm on the couch I love using my dads iPad, but when I'm in bed its too big and I use my phone.
I hope iOS7 brings profiles to the ipad. Cause its annoying for both of us. I dont like signing out of his thing in every app and so forth.

Dude, it's not worth missing out on actual life stuff just for a 3 hour presentation of which most of it won't be life-changing news. Not to mention, it will be up for re-watching in its entirety later.
Some of the google play services were pretty cool. Doesnt look like theres any device announcements, nor a 4.3 update?
1 device announcement, which was greeted with laughs at the end.
1.5 hours left. 4.3 might come then, but I'm thinking that Android events might now be focused towards the end of the year along with Nexus devices.
Hangouts is the great game changer. Loving all these multi-platform integration!
And even more G+ across the board.

New play music app looks pretty nice. The icon and widget stay the same. Discovery of new music is well implemented...it sees Above and Beyond in my music and recommends "Walter White," a track I don't have. There an add to my library button pretty much centered on the screen making it easy to keep this available to me. A three dot menu button give the option to turn this track into a "radio station" of similar music or buy the track, add to playlist or queue.
So far the radio station created by the radio station button is selecting music very much in similar tempo and style as the original track.
I'm impressed.

Google search updated, now "reminders" are available. I've set mine up as a test to remind me to do something in 20 minutes. It's placed a card in Google now, but it's hidden in the notification panel by the "time to home" card witch has a footnote of 5 other cards available.
Real time transit info doesn't seem to be working in Chicago.

That's one way of looking at it, but purists won't see it that way. Nexus phones don't have SD cards, don't have hardware home buttons and are somewhat subsidized by Google. This is more of a Google Edition of the S4.
Nexus phones get the branding when google helps co-develop the hardware.
This won't be a nexus I believe. Just sold as a google edition.
The new maps UI looks really nice
mobile and desktop!
ALso i'm looking forward to the google+updates, i wish more people used it. I still use it for some followers, mainly android news. But my friends dont lol.
Excited for the new hangouts app, my friends and i used the one before built in but switched to fb messenger since we can do the group chat on the comp. I'm gonna push back to that now

For those complaining about not much new Android stuff, I give you this:
http://developer.android.com/design/....html#side-nav
They are doing more for developers and users within Android and not just blasting out with new versions that critics will then complain about devices not catching up, fragmentation, etc...
Android centric event will come later this year, in addition to the many already going on at I/O.

The new Google Play Music UI looks pretty sweet. The Hangouts app is pretty cool too:

Okk so samsung denied my phone for a warranty fix due to the screen being broken.
They said it would be $152.xx to get the phone fixed.
I told them to ship it back for now.
I'm still using my NS, but its sloowwww.
I have a three choices that I see.
First get the phone fixed and pay the 152.
Second sell the GS3 as a broken phone and the NS then assuming I get $150 combined (gotta research if i even would) then put the last 150/200 to a N4.
Wait till the next nexus and stick it out with my NS.

In one of the I/O sessions today, Key Lime Pie was spotted. So not surprising, a new version of Android will come this year, possibly in a few months with the launch of the new Nexus 7 and updated Bluetooth 4.0 status.
Also looks like SMS integration will come to Hangouts. Yay.

tmoblie pushed out an update for the S3, biggest feature update is the ability to run 2 apps on the screen at once and the battery seems to be lasting longer (maybe its just me though), its 4.1.2
sorry for the dumb question, but I often get people sending me stuff via text messaging, usually iPhone users, and I'll click on the "Download" and it'll show that it's downloading, but then after that, I don't get anything... why do I go (on my phone) to pull this file?

Ken, that happens with MMS when you are in a low network area....when on Edge network (low network), I get the same thing, the minute I get on 3G/4G and hit download, it shows the image/video....
