Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
Did you check out the WireFly deal on the Note II? I posted it a few posts up:

I'm sure they'll do the same for the AT&T, Sprint and Verizon versions as well.
Question about 4G LTE.
I drove through Seattle the other day and I expected my phone to switch to 4G (assuming they have it there) but I didn't see that happen. Can anybody shed light on this?
I have an HTC EVO on Sprint.

I have an HTC EVO on Sprint.
Galaxy SIII 16GB for $100, 32GB for $150 (Best Buy, Verizon, 2-yr contract)
Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Kansas City, San Antonio and Waco
As you may or may not know, Sprint invested in WiMax hoping that it could reach LTE speeds when they first released the EVO 4G. They have since abandoned WiMax and gone to the real LTE which is why they're way behind the competition. Also WiMax isn't the same as LTE so the towers have to be set up for proper LTE transmission. They're supposed to cnvert some of the WiMax towers into LTE but that will take some time.
Now if you're talking about the HTC Evo 4G then it should've gotten WiMax 4G signal. The phone will pick which speed to use based on the strength of the signal. Unfortunately, WiMax never expanded the way Sprint wanted it to as it was quite costly and Clearmax and Sprint have since stopped expanding WiMax which is why their WiMax reception was spotty.
Thanks. Yes it's the newest one EVO 4G LTE.
So they don't have it in Seattle. That explains it. Pretty surprising they don't have it in that huge of a market.
The guy at the Sprint store here in Bend, OR said we should have it by the end of the year or soon after. Guess I will believe it when I see it.

I just got my EVO 4G LTE to replace the original one that was rooted and running at 1.19ghz. This new phone is gorgeous i must say. And just to think 2 years ago i was fighting my brother hard about leaving Windows Mobile to go to Android. Even my 63yo mother at the time made the switch from her dumb phone to android at the same time and has since bought and android tablet and ill be getting her a mid-grade Android phone this time since this 65yo is one techie bitch she says. haha. I love you ma.

Under CPU Spy, it looks like you're not going into deep sleep. Your Deep Sleep should take the majority of time compared to the other apps.
In Better Battery Stats, check the partial wakelock and any other wakelock. That'll narrow it down to what's causing your phone to not enter deep sleep.
Also of note, your Cell Standby is pretty high. Can you click on the graph and post what it shows. Also click on the Cell Standby and see how long without signal your phone went. If you're continually getting bad signal where you're at, its probably better to turn off LTE as it'll continually scan for LTE signal draining your battery.

Looks like 8 GB and 16 GB configurations. Wireless charging is on board as well.

Google is probably leaking these info all out just in case they have to cancel or cut short their announcement on Monday due to the Hurricane. That way they can either just come out and say, BOOM here are the products of the info you guys already know and jet out of there, or just do a video conference.

I guess we'll have to wait a few days just like last year's Nexus for the announcement. Supposedly, one of the Google employees lost their Nexus at a bar (yes just like Apple's) and Google went into damage control.

Yeah, good thing they didn't have to pay the guy off with the free phone despite him not taking it cause 3 weeks later it leaked via Belarus haha.
Somehow I feel like all the leaks were on purpose by LG to get their name out there :p
Google should just make Android events in November since October is now hurricane season.

Here's the latest and probably the most legit render of the LG Nexus 4:

Someone pointed out the time, 4:20, was related to it running 4.2. On the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7, the time is at 4:10, which corresponded to 4.1

A lot of the problem is that you're on the stock rom. Just being rooted doesn't make your OEM rom run better. It makes for swapping out roms for the most part. Im using the app "2x Battery" and it increases battery life dramatically. It works for rooted/non-rooted phones. It even lets you know the eta until battery is fully discharged.
messaging apps like what? This app you can control the time to turn on 3g briefly to let the phone dl emails etc. I have it set for every 15min. But this answers your question. Your phone is constantly pulling 3g.
I use google+messenger to talk to some friends. So i wouldnt want it to turn on every 15minutes.
If you really want to save battery and keep your data on, fall back to 2G/EDGE speeds. You may even see improved reception as 2G is readily more available than 3G or LTE. That'll save you a lot of battery in comparison to 3G and even LTE and you won't have to worry about missing anything important. You can probably even automate this with a bunch of apps in the Play Store like Tasker or Llama.
Zedomax did a great demo showing off the Multitasking on the Note II:
I hope Google takes a look at this and incorporates it somewhat into AOSP. Modaco seems to have figured out how to enable it to more than just the apps that Samsung gives so that it'll work on any app/game you choose. There's also a way that a dev can add a small line of code into their app to enable it:

alright i got paranoid for my phone. First thing is it has those washed out whites. I want my white back!!
How do i get it back again?? Its been a long time since i've used a rom that didnt fix it from the start

Lol. You probably have to go to Settings --> Advanced and then the Display tab. Its probably using CM10's Color fix. Most others use Voodoo's Color fix. Both do the same job though just in different ways.
Whoa. This is pretty cool:
Its a Per App Color. The Soft Keys and Notification bar change to any color you want it to match the app. I haven't been following Paranoid Android in a while but that's a cool feature. Maybe I'll play with Paranoid Android again after 4.2 drops.

haha thats cool
there seems to be a lot based on customization with this ROM, specifically choosing any app to run in tablet view and all that
seems pretty cool
gonna take a while setting everything up haha

thanks, found it. But the stupid CM presets are off!! I know cause i've done this before just didnt know where to look. At least i think they're off...
Its probably the gamma/contrast. Voodoo seems to use a different gamma/contrast curve than CM10's. You get used to it after a while.
Yeah Paranoid works great with large screens especially when you use the Tablet Mode. I like using the YouTube app in tablet mode before they made the UI change a few weeks ago. My friend who has the original Note is running this ROM and it looked great on his. I did use it for a while as well and thinking about running it again on my Nexus 7 later on.
Developers all hate exynos now, so no paranoid android on my note 2.
I'm not 100% sure I'd use it, though - touchwiz is really nice now.
That's why I dont either. I've loved and always have loved HTC Sense even when i had it on my Windows Phones. Its just awesome.
This was a very interesting non- scientific comparison of the cameras of the following phones: HTC EVO 4G LTE (which I own), Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Note II, iPhone 4s. I'd like to know what you guys/ladies thought of this.
