New Google+ update but interestingly, the screenshots are from the new Nexus?

https://plus.google.com/108094760132...ts/RaSZ3o2uZjr

The resoultion is 768 x 1280. And they blacked out the status bar. I wonder why. Any way, the new update is pretty nice. The Widget is a nice touch, although I wish there was a way to view back a post and the UI for viewing images is now more coherent. Subtle but very noticeable difference.

New Play Store update 3.9.16:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/10...all-apps-list/

Mirrors in the link above. Download and install like a normal apk. Allows you to finally remove apps from the All list. Also some people are saying update notifications now expand. Pretty cool and I'm glad Google is making more and more use of the expanded notifications in Jelly Bean.

Pro-tip: Long Press and Hold to delete multiple apps from the list.

Biggest waste of notification line. Luckily the skip music with volume keys work on it in CM10 and other custom ROMs.

AndroidPolice tore down the new Play Store apk and found out it has some stuff related to a Malware Scanner and an upcoming Wishlist:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/10...ress-and-more/

They need to create a lost of purchased apps cause I've forgotten what I've bought. Looking at my Google Wallet transactions helps but its a hassle.

that means optimus g > galaxy note 2 > galaxy s3

i guess snapdragon > exynos?

I wouldn't take benchmarks too literally. Very easy to cheat the scores especially when it comes down to cache. With that said, the new Qualcomm S4 Quadcores are using the next generation in chipsets compared to anything out there at the moment. (Samsung is supposed to be releasing their next generation Exynos shortly after which should match the new Qualcomms but that's not found in any of their phones that are out now.) They're more efficient power wise, speed wise and gpu wise.

I bought some meshed cases for my Nexus that came in from China just today. Really love the way they feel (almost the same feeling as the Diztronic case) and they're quite cheap at $1.62 + shipping per piece. Unfortunately, the bottom and the top aren't covered but I've already disassembled my Nexus before and its very easy to replace the frame so I'm gonna take my chance. If you guys want pictures I can take some with the different cases on although right now the lighting in my room sucks:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plastic-Mesh...item27c67817b6

I bought 4 different colors: Black, White, Red, and Blue. Rocking the blue one right now and it looks great. My only complaint would be that there's a gap around the camera but its not a big deal.

For an unsubsidized unlocked phone and with the latest tech that's not a bad price at all. I do agree 8 GB might be too small for my needs though. I could see them pulling off a Nexus 7 like pricing of choices. 8 GB for $399, 16 GB for $450, 32 GB for $500. That wold really shake up the market if they did that. The 8 GB would probably cater to app developers who use would use the phone just for compatibility testing so they wouldn't need a higher internal space but I guess we'll all know more in the next few weeks.

When I first heard of it I thought great idea. Then the specs came out...IMO, not worth it. You're better off with a 4S at that the price range. The specs they're releasing are good for a phone maybe a year ago but at that price I don't see why anyone would pick it up over the 4S really and it shouldn't have been given an S3 moniker. I do see what Samsung is doing it though. They're trying to sell to people who don't look at specs (90% of the people out there) and will base their purchase based on the S3 attached to its name. Just wish they'd release a more suitable midrange phone.

Well, I wonder if it has more to do with simply the size?

For example, pretty much most of the comments from people who see my S3 for the first time is how big it is. And they wonder if the size is something they can live with; prefer something smaller.

So, maybe this is to address that demographic?

EIGHT?

My 16 gig Note 2 leaves only 10.36 behind for internal storage, after taking away app/system space. So with 8 you'd only have 2.36 gig total?

Hope you don't plan on playing games.

Fortunately, it doesnt work like that. The usable space of the 8GB is probably more like 6.xGB.

Thats odd that your Note uses up over 5GB too. My Nexus S has 16GB on board, 13.31GB available to me.

I don't believe the hardware they have is final. A good indication would be to compare it to the Optimus G which this phone is based. They probably skimp on the internal and battery in preproduction because its cheaper that way. I wouldn't be surprised if those specs will be bumped up in the final revision.

It'll probably be like the Nexus 7 at around 5.89 after a clean wipe. Its not a lot of space but for a dev phone its plenty. At that size it wouldnt be a daily for an app developer more of a platform to build apps on for them so if it saves them (developers) money it would be great.

GMail 4.2 up for grabs:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/10...zoom-and-more/

Download links and instructions in the link above. Will try this later when I get home. You will need to be on ICS at least and maybe Root to uninstall the old GMail.

So somethings really been wrong with my battery as of late.
Some process is keeping my phone awake most of the time, even at times when I dont use my phone. Not sure what it is, but its destroying my battery. Take a look at this.

Do a wipe and reflash. Also, on the screen before the full graph, what processes are listed?

i hate doing that lol, i'll do it later.

So the LG nexus, if that device thats out in the wild is actually it, doesnt have a curved screen, lame.

The "with Google" tag on the back is still weird though.... maybe its just on the prototype

That doesn't look right at all. Are you getting Deep Sleep at all using CpuSpy and if not what wakelocks are going on? Check with BetterBatteryStats under Partial Wakelock. Check XDA for the free version.

Wow that's some serious wakelock... Look at the awake vs screen on time. Betterbatterystats is good for finding rogue apps.

Take a look at this post to understand what each wakelock means:

ASUS Padfone 2 first look:

Start at 1:40.

I wish this was the next Nexus device. If the specs that were leaked a few weeks ago are true and they stay close to the same specs as the Nexus, I may consider this device.

Supposed to be announced next week so we should hear more details. I hope they use software buttons like on the original Padfone.

If its like the original then yes. The tablet portion is just the screen and battery. The additional keyboard dock added even more extra battery life. The tablet display did increase the resolution compared to the phone (from 960x540 to 1280x800) so maybe they'll do the same here (maybe 1280x720 to 1920x1200)? They're supposed to release more details on the 16th. From the pictures, the phone looks like the original but a lot thinner. Wedge shaped and all. I hope the devs pick up this phone cause the specs are very similar to the leaked LG Nexus. Then it would be just a matter of camera drivers being the problem. Otherwise CPU and GPU are exactly the same which means custom ROMs should be easily made sans a proper camera but ASUS has had a good reputation releasing software updates so far.

definitely looks better then the LG nexus.

I'm wondering if google is gonna have other nexus devices. Maybe they wont be released before the holiday season?

Gonna post quite a bit of screen shots of BBS. In 50min my phone lost 25%, and maps seems to be the thing thats killing the battery.

I'll probably just wipe and reflash since i probably can't fix it.

If its Maps that's doing it. Go into the Maps settings and then look at Location Settings. Maybe disable some items in there.

Finally installed the new GMail app. Had to push it to my /system/app/ folder but everything works great. Pinch to zoom finally works and swiping to delete mail has the same satisfying feel as swiping notifications off. Lol.

http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/15/3...or-photos-leak

looking at the comments sooooo many more people are more excited about seeing a sony Nexus than a LG one.

Feel bad for LG they will get like no sales with this phone assuming its got good specs

AndroidandMe is more of an attentionwhore site than a real news site though, so take it with a grain of salt. They might just want to be the one everyone links to saying it is fake to generate more site views and ad revenue profits. Taylor (owner of site) did the same thing with all those Nexus program upgrade features before being proven false and he later had to retract his "news".

That Padfone looks nice, but it'd be a hassle if someone else wants to use your tablet because then you'd be without your phone. Dunno, I like having my phone and my tablet separate.
