I think he read costco's post wrong about the i5 still being easy to type one handed in portrait.

Anyway, doing some research there are also quite a few rumors to Samsung having a nexus device as well. But it doesnt seem like its going to be that great. The rumors just say it will be a minor upgrade from last years GN. So slightly faster, ltl better camera and so forth. They wont make it better than the GS3.

Assuming they are making one and the rumors seem to be true, this is just stupid... The GS4 is said to be announced in february and the GS3 was announced half a year ago and they are gonna release a phone in a couple months thats worse than the GS3? Does google have no say with its hardware manufacturers??

So the LG will most likely have much better specs, but it will have a big screen. I hope sony is coming out with a nexus device. Cause if these two companies will have one, maybe the rumor about 5 devices are true.

more rumors also point towards a nexus phone based off of an HTC droid incredible x, a 5inch phone.

So now thats:
1. Samsung
2. LG
3. HTC
4. Sony

those are the rumors so far for the nexus phones.

edit: add sony to that list as well, sony xperia nexus - now this would be a nice phone

It seems like the LG phone has the best specs from what its based off of, the optimus G

Never mind, I misread that. When he said, 'with the extra screen area typing is even easier', I thought he was comparing the 5 vs the 4s. But he was comparing landscape vs portrait, I think.

All this talk on the last page about 5 inchers and too fat to hold in your hand is lol-worthy

BTW, Speed - I switched to JellyB-TSM v6 and its soooooooo much faster. I suggest trying it out if yours starts to lag.

Wait, you have the NS4G, dont you? I dont know if there is a version that works for your phone (assuming the 4G uses a diff version from the GSM phone).

Well in that case:

http://goo.im/devs/slukk/ROM/crespo/JellyB-TSM

The installed is weird. When you flash it in recovery, it pops up with its own GUI to install it. Use the volume buttons to move around and the power button to select.

my power button stopped working a couple days ago... again. So weird i dont understand. It stopped working in the beginning of the year, then started working after a couple months and its been working for months now.

Anyway i have my search button as my power button and it works in CWM so hopefully it continues to work. BTW does this ROM have the feature to make the volume rocker a wake button?? That is my one required feature

You're probably talking about the AROMA installer. I've seen some custom ROMS implement that feature. Makes flashing a ROM noob friendly.

If the kernel you're using supports it, check out PGM Slide2wake:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1721895

It allows you to turn on the screen with a swipe while its off.

So I'm not sure if my ears are playing tricks on me but I've noticed that the TTS voice on Google Navigation/Now is getting more and more human like. Its really pleasing to hear the voice instead of the old robotic one. It seems they made some tweaks on some roads I drive on and its enunciating more properly now. I wonder if this is all done on their end as they gather more info on Maps.

Pro tip: If your Navigation stops doing TTS properly, go to Settings --> Apps --> All Tab --> Maps and Clear data. It should work again.

you know its something i didnt notice. But when i was using it and one of my friends was in the car. She told me that why does my navi sound so much better than hers she said hers was all robotic and mine was so nice. She's running gingerbread i think on some lg phone. Dunno if she should get better voice too?? Maybe she just hasnt used hers in a while.

Point is, i didnt notice it before she said that. I dont even remember what hte robotic version even sounded like

I think she needs to be on ICS to get the improved voice as it depends on an updated TTS.apk. I know they implemented the human like voice right before Jelly Bean dropped in a Maps update but I've noticed its gotten even better since that first update. I use the Navigation a lot and I've only started hearing it enunciate certain street names more correctly than before or maybe I'm just going crazy. Lol.

The Aroma installer asked if I wanted to install them, I clicked yes. I already had the gapps zip on the phone though, so not sure if they were prebundled in the rom zip or if it just looked for the zip.

I've noticed that especially on the CM roms. Dont know what it is. This one seems to be pretty snappy though and I've been using it all day.

AnyTAG NFC Launcher

So I came across this app and thought it might be useful for people with NFC on their phones:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...cuYW5kcm9pZCJd

What makes it different from NFC Task Launcher, NFC ReTag and the built in CM10 NFC writer? It actually doesn't write any info to the tags. So if the NFC tag is locked from reprogramming (the ones that companies give away), or doesn't have the necessary space to do all the automated task you have, it doesn't matter. It runs the tasks based on the ID of the tag when it reads it from your phone. Awesome idea and its free!

What it can do so far:

What can AnyTAG NFC Launcher do?
Bluetooth (on/off/toggle)
Bluetooth discoverable (on)
WiFi (on/off/toggle)
WiFi Hotspot (on/off/toggle)
Connect to specific WiFi SSID
Mobile data (on/off/toggle)
Airplane mode (on)
GPS (on/off/toggle)
Capture photo (front/back camera)
Screenshot - root only (Beta)
Launch an app
Launch an activity
Make a call or USSD
Send an SMS
Open a web page
Navigation
Launch tasker
Silent mode (off/vibrate/mute)
Set volume (ringer/notification/media/alarm)
Auto rotate screen (on/off/toggle)
Auto brightness (on/off/toggle)
Set screen brightness
Stay Awake While Charging (on/off/toggle)
Auto sync (on/off/toggle)
Display Timeout
Media button (play/pause/next/previous)
And many more feature will add in future updates.
So you can use tags that companies give away or the ones you buy online. I might start using this instead of NFC Task Launcher. It seems I can fit more automations on a tag since it only reads the NFC's ID.

Since I updated to the official GN Verizon JB update my GPS sucks. It literally takes 1-2 minutes to acquire a signal and it used to be instant. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried disabling gps and location services then re-enabling them?

http://www.androidcentral.com/psa-ga...heres-easy-fix

Otherwise, the only other thing I can think of would require root access.

Go open up SuperSU or SuperUser (Not sure which one your phone is using). Delete Titanium Backup from the approved list of apps (long press and hold). Also, update the su binary if it asks you to. Re-open up TitaniumBackup and reapprove it for root access. If its still erroring out, shoot the dev an e-mail. He's really good at responding.

They started rolling out the new TTS a while ago in Maps updates. It definitely does sound much nicer, although before I cleared the old data I had the new lady and the old demonic voice competing with each other to tell me stuff

Yes I have done that. I am starting to wonder if it had anything to do with me using the force update method which required deleting Google settings cache.

That should have no effect. Can you download GPS Test from the Play Store. Go into the settings of the app --> Clear AGPS and Update AGPS. Try again.

Ok so the ROM civic showed me is FAST. I didnt know my phone was still this fast. Havent played games, but just doing what I normally do it doesnt slow down!

Not everything is good though. Batter is bad. It died on me around 6pm. Took it off the charger at 12. With 1hr38m of screen on time.

Thing is my android OS is taking up the most battery. Dunno if thats just reading it wrong or something was bad. Then again my battery hasnt been good as of late, so i'm just thinking its just an old battery thats just bad.

My battery isnt great anymore either, but give it a charging cycle. Mine has settled down and is draining ~2%/hour. Thats about 2 days on my battery, so the stock battery should be able to get a full day out of it.

Anyone know how to use NFC cards? I managed to buy a 2 day old HTC One X for the ugprade price from a guy who wanted to go back to his iphone. The box came with 2 nfc cards inside... but I have no idea how to use them.

I was planning to resell, but the fiance played around with it and now wants to give up her Iphone 4s instead.

Edit: NVM, saw CG's post above. Will have to look through that thread.

Yeah I normally use NFC Task Launcher for my NFC tags because it was the first one released back in the day and it wasn't free before but now it is:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...actionlauncher

The AnyTag app seems to be better though because it isn't limited by the space of the tag. Each NFC tag has a limited storage space and each task takes a few bytes before you can't add any more to it. If the NFC isn't locked it can be rewritten to do whatever you want it to do especially if you get it to work with Tasker. There are different tags made for different environments (indoors, outdoors) otherwise they all work the same way and just have different size storage.

So far for my uses I've programmed my tags for different profiles. I bought 5 of them a few months back and have each set up for different situations. For example, I have a home tag that'll enable WiFi, turn off Bluetooth, Turn off Silent Mode, Turn off auto-rotate, Turn brightness to 25%. I have a tag inside my car that'll automate my stuff when I'm about to drive. All of this is done just simply by tapping my phone to the tag. Note that NFC only works when the screen is turned on and your device is unlocked for security purposes. Also don't forget to turn it on in the settings as some devices have it turned off by default to save battery? I leave mine always on and don't have any battery issues.

haha see my problem is, when i get bored in class i go on my phone. Which means i'm on it a lot haha. Going between fb, chrome, flipboard, texting. So my guess is i do a lot on my phone, no way am i getting a day. Not to mention, my apt has zero signal most of the time. Sometimes i pull up a bar. So that also makes my phone battery die quicker...

Also don't forget to turn it on in the settings as some devices have it turned off by default to save battery? I leave mine always on and don't have any battery issues.
Yeah the car seems to be a logical place to use it - to activate bluetooth for me. And I've had the nfc option enabled since day 1 and my S3 battery life has been perfectly fine as well.

As for the security screen, I've personally moved away from locking my phone since random people always want to use it (friends/family) to look up crap or play some games on it. Got tired of having to constantly unlock it.

Now I use the "App Lock" app and lock certain apps that have personal info (Gmail/Email, Facebook, GTalk, Playstore, and anything requiring root, etc). Although it is annoying since changing phone settings requires you to unlock at almost every sub selection.
