Darren Dreger was on the radio this morning saying they were offering him in the neighborhood of a 1-2 year deal for less than what he made last year.
I don't think we'll be hearing much from Tomas Kaberle anymore.

Corvo's gonna need to pick a new number in Beantown. Chiarelli was in communication with Kaberle but wasn't in the market for price Kaberle wanted.

More anger than crying. Fuck Jagr. Goddamn sellout.
You woulda thought 1) he would get to play in a new arena. 2) with malkin and crosby. 3) we have a decent shot at the cup again. 4) get point #1600 and retire in a pens sweater. Just very frustrating.
Oh well. at least we weren't stupid and signed our own players, first.

LOL @ Jagr. I mean I know I'd rather play with Briere and Giroux rather than those stiff's Crosby, Malkin, Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

Jagr = Primadonna once again....it's all about him. Look at me! Look at me!
In Philly he will get more limelight than with the Pens and Wings.

Burke on long contracts.
:thumbsdow: Still not a playoff team Brian, much less a contender.
"We made a very substantial offer to Brad Richards," Burke said Wednesday at the Leafs prospect camp. "What we offered I don't think is material. We lost out on the Brad Richards sweepstakes for two reasons -- one, we didn't offer as much money as other teams and more importantly we didn't structure the contract like other teams did.
"These deals that are front-end loaded and have small amounts on the back end in my opinion are designed to circumvent the salary cap. I won't do them, I never have, I'm not going to."
The Leafs are believed to have offered Richards a $42-million, six-year deal.

The Leafs are believed to have offered Richards a $42-million, six-year deal.
Even still, the Leafs GM says he's confident the team has improved with the moves its made. The team signed centre Tim Connolly to a $9.5-million, two-year deal and acquired centre Matthew Lombardi and defenceman Cody Franson from Nashville for Brett Lebda, a prospect and a draft pick.
"For now we're done," said Burke. "We'll see what happens. If we get a chance to upgrade we'll do it."

What's up guys. Hope everyone had a nice 4th of July (well, except for you Canadians).
Very surprised at the Heatley/Havlat trade. Havlat seems to be always injured and is nowhere near as good as Heatley.
Pens lost some depth, but have enough decent players from Wilkes Barre to fill the roster. Look for Tangradi to be full time this season.
LOL @ Tim Connolly signing. He will be lucky to play 50 games.
Great pickup by the Caps in Vokoun, however they will get KO'd of the playoffs early Vokoun doesn't have the greatest post-season track record.
Isles should throw offer sheets at Stamkos and Doughty. Why not 10-year 80 Mill and 10-year 65 Mill respectively? If you gave DP 15 years...
Welcome to NY Brad Richards. The Rangers are where careers go to die. Although a 1-2 punch of Richards/Dubinsky at center isn't half bad.

Burke...
Good luck signing anyone without front loading the contract.
Players demand that they are front loaded because they want their coin NOW.
Players want to make 80% of the contract in the next two or three years....to avoid the risk losing half of it with a stoppage or possible roll-backs.
Judging by Burke's "rules", he has two choices: trades (good luck with that) or wait until after the new CBA......more than likely Burke will wait.....Leafs competitive in 2014-15?

As well, despite not scoring as much goals, Havlat has shown to be a better playoff performer and is a better 2-way player...so, SJ has given up some goals but gained some better 2-way play and playoff experience. I'd say it will work out okay for the Sharks.

I was looking around for some reasons to like to B's picking up Corvo and it seems like he may be a nice addition. Tied for third in the league last year in take aways and was 9th for shots taken by defense. I also uncovered a little gem that will show how much of sport is rooting for laundry...
http://thehockeywriters.com/kaberle-...for-joe-corvo/
I have a feeling we'll never hear about it.
Joe Corvo does not have a stellar reputation in Boston for several reasons, the main stemming from an incident at a nightclub in Boston in 2003, where he allegedly punched and kicked a 34-year-old woman. Corvo pled guilty to counts of both felony and misdemeanor assault and received a two-year suspended sentence to go with an undisclosed amount of community service.

Nah, Deano's too smart to ever sign a deal like that.
What is he 22-23? At least that doesn't take him into his 40's.
These deals are fawkin insane. I hope the next CBA implements a 6 year limit.

With Doughty and Stamkos, you either have to sign em for a couple of years max, or sign em for a very long time.
Such is the the double edge sword of the current CBA.

But, I'm waiting for all the e-hate and e-ridicule to pass my way for daring to think Toews is worthy of a 10-year deal.
The sizzle in the Steak
Take Stamkos and Doughty...they are crazy young, you don't want to sign a player over a term that puts them in their prime as a UFA.
While at the same time you need a workable the cap hit that does not handcuff the team should they need to have to move the player in the event that they won't sign...prior to said player becoming a UFA. You don't want to get left with nothing at the end of the contract.
Additionally with the current CBA in its twilight, players want the coin upfront to avoid getting screwed under the new CBA. Teams are concerned about the new CBA as well, and want to make sure they are not doomed for years in the new CBA era that will be coming.
It's not just about the length of contract in terms of how good the player will be over the long run. It is much more complicated. I wish it was that easy.

Eklund believes the Leaves, Kings, Hawks, Wings and Isles are after Semin!
Clearly, he must think Semin's cap hit is only $1 esp. with a couple of the teams he dreamed up.

Clearly this list is VERY accurate.
If you have ever had the displeasure of having to listen to a Ducks broadcast.....it is the worst in ALL of sports. I honestly don't know how Duck fans put up with it.......but then again it might prove my theory that there really are not true Duck fans.

John Ahlers, Brian Hayward - Anaheim Ducks: Ahlers might be an excellent play-by-play announcer, but Hayward overwhelms him on the air. Hayward is an ex-goaltender and as is often the case with ex-goaltenders, his analysis is heavily slanted in favor of goaltenders -- any goaltender. He speaks about goaltending as a mystical pursuit, which is extremely frustrating to viewers looking for answers or explanations about goaltending technique.
He's also heavily biased in his general game analysis and is hard-pressed to find fault in the Ducks for anything. He's the announcer who accused Brent Seabrook of "selling it" to draw a call on this hit.

Minnesota owner might have revealed NHL's realignment plans for 2012-13
Several reports in recent weeks have indicated the NHL will have some form of radical realignment in 2012-13, when the Winnipeg Jets will shift from the Eastern Conference to the West, where they belong.
It is widely assumed the Detroit Red Wings would move to the Eastern Conference.
And while nothing is official, as the Board of Governors will continue to discuss possible scenarios when they meet in December, Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold might have let the cat out of the bag during a radio interview. He told KFAN of Minneapolis that the Wild would be in the Central Division along with Winnipeg, Chicago, St. Louis, Nashville, Dallas and possibly Columbus.
He didn't mention Detroit, which leads one to assume the Red Wings would in fact be in the East.
Leipold didn't say this was a done deal, but by the tone of his remarks, he seems fairly certain it will happen.
