It will definitely be exciting looking forward to next year and watching the Leafs and Oilers down the stretch to see what kind of pick we are going to get.
Trust me when I say this: You want to rebuild from within.

The Kings tried the crap you are talking about for years and years with NOTHING to show for it.

....but for the last 4 years for the first time in Kings history a true rebuild has been in the process....from within.....sure you take your lumps with subpar season, but you do it for the future. The future is bright for L.A.

You don't want 2 rounds of playoffs each year.....you want the Cup.

Kings ink Brayden Schenn....Burke sheds tears.

Capgeek.com reports the Los Angeles Kings have inked Brayden Schenn to a three year entry level contract. Schenn's contract is a two way contract, and a $3.14 million cap hit per season according to Capgeek. He will make $67,500 if playing in the AHL. Schenn's base salary is $900,000 per season and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the 2012-2013 season.

For full contract details, visit Capgeek.com.

Hendricks Says : The Kings must feel he is ready to rock. He is now up in the big leagues and will be interesting to see how he does. After acquiring Jeff Halpern and Fredrik Modin yesterday, ths is another move you can include in the Kings upgrading their current roster.
....must be a lot of bonuses in that contract

Just the typical sophomore jinx...From all accounts, he's still a blue-chipper.

Don't be so negative. If Burke can build a USA team that gave Canada fits, he can rebuild the Leafs...there is no quick fix.

Debatable at best. I never said he was done, just hasn't had a great year. We'll see. I've heard rumblings, nothing from media but from totally unrelaible sources mind you that the Leafs feel Scheen is a miss.

You didn't just compare putting Team USA together to building a NHL team did you? Red text?

I've said it before (at least 10 times and I'll say it again) You build through the draft, always have, always will. To give up those picks for Kessel was a monumental mistake that will haunt Burke forever.

They lost a shot at Taveres and a top 3 last year (Duchene or Hedman) and now this year as well. If JFJ was still here he'd have been strung up in the street by now. MLSE at its best.

And it was interesting to see that the player Burke felt was worth so much wasn't one of the 6 US players on the ice when Team USA was down to its last minute, when his own coach was making the call.

Not worth it. They have obvious rebuilding to do, especially since they just lost Kessel. Let them rebuild, they have all the picks and tools to do it. Then proceed to rub it in domns face every chance you get

Well, hey...I never said Burke was conventional in his approach.

He is sorta amassing picks...abeit low rounders, right? I dunno...maybe he has a UFA signing up his sleeve (i.e. Kovalchuk) come summer. The offense scares no one and the defence looks good on paper (it just has underperformed this year?)...So, he just needs to get a top line guy. And with Giggy in net...there's a chance?

It could be worse...you could be an Oilers fan. That team is hopeless. They have to continually overpay for UFAs and are now stuck with a bunch of really bad contracts thanks to Lowe...Their one hope is getting the top pick this draft.

I guess you didn't hear Burke address the media yesterday. Apparently the Leafs are not going through a 5 year rebuilding period and the team's transformation will come much sooner. I was under the impression that we would try to follow the model of other successful teams and rebuild through drafting but I it looks like they have another plan.

That approach ended the day they made the Kessel trade.

Pressure from the board anyone?

The Kessel trade was brought up and that's when he mentioned it. There hasn't been any talk about it here in the media which is surprising.

^ Watching national all-star teams trying to destroy each other obviously is gonna be better than watching a standard NHL roster.

But, at least playoffs are coming soon.

Don Cherry calls out Lucic. Says he quit a fight and calls him an embarrassment to the Boston Bruins.

They took the third period off (Rangers) This is something they have done as long as I can remember (play a 2 period game) but this was worse than ever. It was almost like Hank was the only one playing.

Of course last night was almost as bad, except they put a kid in the line of fire (he played very well btw) It's pretty scary when losing 2-0 seems good, because they were playing Washington.

Whoo Hoo! another 2 game losing streak.

I am hoping they miss the playoffs it will be like a mercy killing.
