Hawks talk Huet Trade with Leafs for Finger...
From ESPN: http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/blac...afs-about-huet
The Chicago Blackhawks are discussing a trade that would send goaltender Cristobal Huet to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Jeff Finger, according to a league source.
The Hawks also would include at least a draft pick, the source said.
The NHL trade deadline is Thursday.
Finger is signed through 2011-2012 at $3.5 million per year.
Huet also is signed through 2012 at $5.6 million per year. It's unclear what Toronto would do with Huet after recently trading for J.S. Giguere.
With the underachieving Huet off the roster and the Hawks saving money on the deal, it could open the door for another trade. League sources say the Hawks have had interest in Florida Panthers goaltender Tomas Vokoun. However, Florida had no desire in receiving Huet in return. According to league sources, Vokoun has not been asked to waive his no-trade clause as of Monday morning.
Finger has two goals and seven assists in 30 games this season. He's minus 12 for the season and hasn't played in a game since January 26.

I call BS on this one...but, still...interesting.

The only way I see it happening is by the Leafs burying Huet and his contract in the minors. But then why not just do that with Finger?
Doesn't make any sense IMO.

It was an epic game that delivered an epic audience.
Sunday's gold medal Men's Hockey game has become the most-watched television broadcast ever in Canadian history, with an average audience of 16.6 million viewers.
Nearly half of the Canadian population watched the entire game on average, while 80 percent of Canadians watched some part of the game (26.5 million). The game aired live on nine television networks in eight languages via Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.
"Crosby scores! Sidney Crosby! The golden goal! And Canada has once-in-a-lifetime Olympic gold!," called play-by-play announcer Chris Cuthbert as Canada clinched its record-breaking 14th gold medal. "These Golden Games have their crowning moment."
Additionally, the 2010 Winter Games Closing Ceremony becomes the second most-watched broadcast ever, as 14.3 million viewers said goodbye to Vancouver 2010. A total of 24.5 million watched some part of the broadcast.

Chris Chelios is back in the NHL, as the veteran blueliner has signed with the Atlanta Thrashers. Chelios, 48, signed with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League last fall. The Chicago native has played in 1,644 NHL games with 185 goals and 763 assists.

how many of those 308 mil do you think see snow on a basis that would support winter sports?
we have more people yes, but like mentioned before, we arent a country that is mostly confined to winter weather, accordinly we arent raised on skiing, bobsledding, speed skating... sure we have good athletes that compete in these events. but its not exactly a first option as it would be in some places like canada.
but dont measure a countires greatness on the population, your basically saying we have 300 mil. olympians and canada has 34 mil olympians and they won more gold... we dont have 10x more great athletes to choose from. thats just not how it works.
division 3, and 4 high school sports programs often terrorize 5 and 6A schools in the larger states here with sometimes 10x Less students.. its all about location and points of interest in a certain area.
But congrats on the success... again...
sorry for the slight OT:

Some guys don't know when to shut it down.

It is, I agree. Just keep in mind that most of Canada's population is in a province where most of the winter sports you mentioned aren't practiced. Toronto and surrounding areas don't have skiing, bobsledding, speed skating etc. Most of our winning athletes come from the smaller, colder provinces so there is a smaller talent pool to choose from. Toronto could never host a Winter Olympics.
But to your point, look at a country like Norway. 4.8 million people that have year round access to the required facilities to practice their sport.. and it shows.

nobody is out of line here?
seems like you're complaining over nothing. others respond with their opinions.. and you just whine. why not contribute instead of crying about it?

then i sincerely apologize.
i took it the wrong way.
and i see your point dom, i guess im just defensive of our athletes, we are hated on a huge scale (especially when we do good) and im used to defending our team.
keep in mind we are the fattest country on the planet, that already takes away 100 mil fatties right off the bat from the probable competitor list

chips and smokes, lets go
Ron Wilson was his usual cheerful self when talking to the media today. He called Canadians and the Canadian media for losing hope in the team after their early struggles. He then goes on to say how the media really threw Brodeur under the bus and how his legacy was almost tarnished in one night.
Is he not speaking truthfully?

Chelios has Forsberg-itis.

Well I can't speak for everyone but even after the loss to the Americans I was not doubting the teams abilities. Sure, the road to gold wasn't as easy as anticipated but it was never out of reach. The first week of the Olympics didn't go as planned for Canada as a whole and the hockey loss was just another thing to add to the list. It's a story the media ran with. I don't agree with Brodeur's legacy being tarnished in any way. Ron Wilson was the first person I've heard say this.
Senior Moderator
But I don't agree about Brodeur. I don't see him as tarnished at all. And why blame the media and people for that, Babcock made the call. I doubt he bowed to pressure.
Senior Moderator
And Ron Wilson better start learning how to handle Toronto media. He's done a horrible job thus far. He should take a look at how Burke handles them.

Was Malone on the team? Must have missed him in those 60 minutes of hockey.
I think Joe Thorton had more impact on that game.

No kidding!! Horrible stats, injured all last season ..
But we have no depth on defence. Karlsson is just starting to
skate again, he's been out 4 weeks, Campoli is going to be out at
least 4 weeks. Even with the trade they're going to have
to call up a kid from Binghamton.
