Malkin vs Ovechicken and Crosby vs. Semen

Back to my post about the Caps vs Pens rivalry.. Wish these two were in the same division. I think it could do wonders for the league.. It use to be Crosby vs Ovechicken. But after last game it seems to be Ovy vs Malkin and Crosby vs Semen.

From TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=2543...=headlines_nhl

The rivalry between Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin and Washington Capitals winger Alexander Ovechkin went up another notch on Friday, with Ovechkin's teammate Alexander Semin offering some harsh words on Sid The Kid.

In an interview with Yahoo! Sports on Friday, the Russian winger said he didn't know what all the fuss was around No. 87.

"What's so special about (Crosby)?" Semin told Yahoo! Sports through a translator. "I don't see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there's nothing else. Even if you compare him to Patrick Kane from Chicago..(Kane) is a much more interesting player. The way he moves, his deking abilities, his thinking on the ice and his anticipation of the play is so superb."

Semin also criticized the way stars like Crosby are promoted, saying there's too much focus on stats and not enough emphasis on skill.

"I think that if you take any player, even if he is "dead wood," and start promoting him, you'll get a star," he told Yahoo! Sports. "Especially if he scores 100 points. No one is going to care about anyone else. No one is going to care whether he possesses great skill. Let's say you put someone in front of the net and let him deflect pucks in, and he scored 50 goals; everyone will say "Wow!" and then hand him a $10 million per year contract. That's what they like here."

With the rivalry Philly vs Caps forming and the Caps vs Devils (since Brodeur turned Ovy into the league for wearing a mirrored visor) and of course Pens vs Caps. If Bettman was smart they'd be in the division already..

Wow some harsh words from Semin...can't wait to see the next time they play. I doubt Crosby is even going to answer any questions regarding Semin's statement...too classy

Crosby > Semin

Semin has a killer shot and release but his hot start has gone to his head.

That is the case a lot of the times, especially with somebody like an Ovechkin. However I think in this case there was nothing lost in translation...

"I don't see anything special there. Yes, he does skate well, has a good head, good pass. But there's nothing else. Even if you compare him to Patrick Kane from Chicago..(Kane) is a much more interesting player."

Semin is an idiot. There aren't too many players with "dead wood"-level skill that are going to score 100 points in the NHL.

Unless you count Luc Robitaille

Lucky Luc. He celebrated every goal as if it was a Stanley Cup winner.

Fuck it. I'm carrying 5 goalies now.

Turco has ruined my season...and I picked him over a whole bunch of other good ones when they were still available too. Man, of all years for the guy to tank.

^^ Didn't look very sharp vs the B's last night. However, good thing about fantasy hockey is that past stats don't really matter anymore its all about what he does from here on out. I'm sure he'll break out of it at some point and go back to his old self.

^ What did you expect the Leafs to stink this year? I guess you don't listen to Don Cherry then because he knew from day one that they would be a competitive team and he'll remind you by showing highlights of him saying it over ad over again...

Yes. And going by what the GM and coach were saying I wasn't the only one. That was the plan after all.

I expected them to be competeitive yet still lose games by a goal or two.

They'll likely finish just out of the playoffs and get a pick in the 10-13 range. Just like every other year. I knew this would happen.

And Cherry said that because of Wilson. Yet he's now bad mouthing him every chance he gets.

Anybody happen to watch the Bruins-Stars game last night. Really one of the best regular season games I have seen. Ott and Avery were at the top of their game of pestering and low hits once again. Ott hit two guys below the knees, hit Lucic below even after the whistle but then would not fight anybody that challenged him.

Finally Ference laid a huge open-ice hit on Avery and Avery challenged Ference they fought. Later in the third Avery hit Lucic from behind and Savard started going after Avery....time for a brawl. What a game

Anyone watch Kypreos vs Greg Zaun (Blue Jays catcher)? Zaun thought being a goalie was the equivalent to a back catcher in baseball. So Zaun suited up and went head to head vs Kypreos.

10 breakaways, 9 goals.

Haha I wouldn't go that far...Kipper had a slow start because he's old school and this training camp is where you start getting ready for the season and the off season is well the off season. Now that he's back in form he's doing very nice

Anybody else?

I really wish the NHL Channel would do their own intermission fill... I can't stand Cherry.. He just sits there and contradicts himself.. If you do that you're bound to be right at some point and then play it over and over..

Was classic.. I was expecting him to be able to skate.. Don't know how he could talk all that smack not knowing how to skate.. Unless they were playing floor hockey..
