You say that every trade..
Evader is getting a starting goalie and giving up a "shared" goalie"
Evader is giving up a good center for a promising offensive defensemen.
In terms of Fantasy value I don't see him getting "fleeced"

Interesting. Interesting.
Hmm. I think your fantasy trade analysis is too rooted in reality. You have to look at the stats, not the names.
The football analogy is not wanting to trade Peyton Manning for Chad Pennington because Manning is clearly better. However, if you traded for Pennington now, you'd probably end up with more fantasy points.

I guess I put too much value on Staal, folks...go for it then.

Tim Thomas second straight shutout.. I think Fernadez trade value has just gone down.. The starting goalie issue in Boston is finally resolved..
Glad I'm not playing Stevens this week..

chips and smokes, lets go
I didn't get a chance to see tonights game but from what I have seen the coaching staff has the guys competing. This was seriously lacking under Maurice. Guys like Ron Wilson and Tim Hunter will make players accountable.
The skill level out there is a joke though. Ron Wilson made reference to that after last nights loss to Tampa when he commented on how you only need to give a guy like Lecavalier one chance to bury it while the leafs players would need 5 or 6 tries at the same opportunity. Our number one power play line is Sajan, Antrapov, and Ponikarovsy? These guys can barely make and receive a pass.

Leafs still most profitable franchise
NEW YORK (AP) — For the third straight year, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the NHL's most valuable team, worth $448 million.
The Leafs increased in value by 9 percent and easily were valued ahead of the New York Rangers in Forbes' annual rankings. The Rangers are worth $411 million.
Third on the list were the Montreal Canadiens at $334 million, followed by the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings ($303 million) and the Philadelphia Flyers ($275 million).
But the biggest increase in value was made by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who made the Stanley Cup finals last spring and boast stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Pittsburgh is worth $195 million, up a whopping 26 percent.
The next biggest gainers were the Calgary Flames, up 24 percent to $203 million) and the Minnesota Wild, who improved 21 percent and are worth $217 million.
The average team value was $220 million; by comparison, the average for NFL teams this season was $1 billion, according to Forbes.
At the bottom of the list were Columbus ($157 million), the New York Islanders ($154 million), and Phoenix ($142 million). The Coyotes were the only team to go down in worth, by 3 percent.
Toronto also led the list with $160 million in revenues, followed by Montreal ($139) and the Rangers ($137).
Ominously, 12 teams showed a negative operating income, including the Flyers (minus $1.8 million), and Boston Bruins (minus $3 million) — both top 10 franchises in total value.

NHL's most valuable team, worth $448 million.
That just means they're holding a lot of assets and generate a lot of revenue, doesn't necessarily mean they have a ton of free cash to get better players.
Or maybe they just don't know who the better players are

Free cash in a cap system? They've spent to the cap max since it was implemented and are only spending less this year because its a so called rebuilding season. And even then, they'll have no problem paying Sundin 5 or 6 mill if he decides to play.
Before the cap they were always in the top 2 or 3 in league payroll. Only reason they didn't spend more is because they're owned by a several companies/funds and run like a business which needs to see a specific level or return. Unlike say Detroit who is owned by one man who can spend as much as he see's fit on his 'toy'.
Since MLSE is a private company we have no idea how much profit they pull in but some have said its anywhere from 80-100 mill annually. (Bill Watters swears by $88 million) By far the richest and most profitable team in the league.
EDIT: Its MLSE, not just the Leafs that make of profit of 100 mill+ Although I'd bet 85% of that is Leafs.
The skinny
The Toronto Maple Leafs are the cornerstone of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which also owns the Toronto Raptors of the NBA, Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, Leafs TV and Raptors NBA TV. A confidential document obtained by the Toronto Star newspaper contained internal financial statements that showed MLSE forecasts a profit of $105 million by 2011 on revenue of $477 million, in part driven by an increase in ticket revenue of 30%, to $166 million. Not too bad considering the Maple Leafs and Raptors rarely have a decent product to sell their fans.

What exactly are you talking about?

As for getting better players, ya, they've been lost on that front but will have about 30 mill to spend next off season so we'll see.

But basically my bottom line was just because a team or its parent is rich or whatever doesn't mean they are automatically successful

In a somewhat related subject, apparently next years cap is on its way down. If the Canadian dollar continues on its slide its will be down considerably. Which means they'll be a lot of buy outs making for some interesting free agents.

meh... Idiots shouldn't have kept raising it like they have been the past couple years.. The increases they've made from what I've seen have been based upon nothing.. Some number they just made up in their head.. In the few years it's gone from $39 Million to $56.. That's ridiculous.. Whether the candian dollar has increased value or not. They should err on the side of caution..
