Kane is like 170ish lbs...? He's quite small for a hockey player...

Probably. Bit I watched some thing on Crosby awhile back where it was explained how he specifically focused on building his leg muscles to compensate for his size. Low center of gravity keeps him from getting knocked over.

Yes, but his are supposedly freakishly big.

according to nhl.com he is 163
crosby... 200
i'm sorry, that's 37 lbs.
i wouldnt be surprised if you see the hawks bulk him up to 180-185 in the next off season. on average a hockey player will lose 5-10 lbs after a season.

163...? Yeah, he's small...no wonder they call it the Toews-and-Harrypotter line.

Who's trying to say Crosby is as small as Kane?
All I'm saying is Crosby isn't your typical NHL'er either. He knew it, and did something about it.

Um...can we not use Kane and Crosby in the same sentence?
Crosby's got way more size on the Hawks player and is heads over heels better...
I'm thinking more of a Steve Sullivan comparo.

no, you just said crosby isn't big either. but at 5'11 and 200 lbs, that's pretty freaking big. but maybe you were referring to his height?

Watched a few games of the Hawks on TV already and Kane's pretty good about traffic. He's nowhere near as reckless abandon as Tuomo Ruutu or Havlat.

I just hope that we start seeing a lot more smallish type players in the game.

Yes, his height. One of the reason's he weight 200lbs is those legs, which was my point. And some players are listed taller than they really are. I doubt Crosby is 5'11. For some reason I get the impression he's even shorter. But myabe thats from seeing him beside taller players. And even if he is 5'11, thats still probably small in today's NHL.
I remember back in the day when Lindros was the next big thing. You had to be 6'2 minimum to get a sniff.

yea, ill bet crosby is more liek 5'10 and kane 5'9... but thats ok by me. regardless where the weight is, you need to be 180+ at those heights, or you have a 6'2+ 230lb+ defensemen full steam into corners at you.

League approves of schedule change!
From CNNSI...
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- The NHL's board of governors approved the sale of the Nashville Predators and changed the scheduling format Thursday night to allow every team to face each other at least once every season.
Paul Kelly, the new executive director of the NHL Players Association, also addressed the league's owners during a late-afternoon session to open the board's two-day meeting at an elite resort on the Northern California coast.
The NHL voted to go back to the scheduling format used before the 2004-05 lockout, most notably decreasing the current slate of eight games against every team's divisional opponents. Starting next season, teams will play just 24 total games against its four divisional foes, 40 against the rest of the conference and 18 against the other conference.
"The sense of the board was we heard the concerns raised by some of the fans, and this was an attempt to be responsive to the concerns of our fans," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said.
After the lockout, the NHL returned with a determination to spark intradivisional rivalries with a top-heavy new schedule of eight games, but both players and fans grew to dislike the schedule's monotony and the reduced chances to see the other conference's biggest stars.
Kelly even said the players would entertain the notion of an 84-game season -- allowing every team to play a home-and-home series against one division in the other conference each year -- if owners agreed to reduce the number of preseason games. Bettman said the owners could be open to the notion, but it hasn't been formally proposed yet.
The NHL also rubber-stamped the sale of the Predators to a group led by David Freeman. Outgoing owner Craig Leipold attended the meeting, and Freeman could formally close the sale by Monday.

The Leafs are fine. If you don't think so, just look at the Kings:
Kings goalie gets "speared" in the ribs by Smyth...to the point his stick breaks in half during the process....after said event, and goalie is lying on the ground in pain.....fellow Kings teammates just stand around looking at each other....then skate off the ice along with their injured goaltender.
...hmmmmm what's missing here??? Answer: BALLS!!!!
Kings have ZERO. Nobody stands up for their guy getting "speared"...nobody drops the gloves.....then again this is nothing new...just a few games back, Pronger sucker punched Handzus...knocking him to the ice right in front of the Kings bench....and what did the Kings do? nothing....No Balls = Done for the season.

Sucks that the Pens gave up on this Daniel Carcillo so early.. I hate when the Pens do this shit.. Trading this kid straight up for Laraque..
I don't mind it so much but Laraque doesn't bring much to the team other then presence. That is when he's not a healthy scratch. No one will fight him. He has no energy.. Brings no flavor to the table..
I would've loved to see a Carcillo for Avery trade..
Other then temper and pure madness Carcillo looks like a kid who could've filled the wing for Sid. Bringing back the Stevens to Lemieux, McSorley to Gretzky etc etc tandems.. Offering protection in return for goals and assists..
End rant..

From ESPN...
Flyers put on notice after Cote suspended 3 games
The Flyers' latest on-ice incident apparently was the last straw for the NHL.
Philadelphia forward Riley Cote was suspended for three games by the NHL on Monday, the fifth Flyers player disciplined by the league this season for illegal hits. In the same swoop, the league warned the Flyers that future incidents would warrant potentially stiffer penalties, sources told ESPN.com.
"I talked to [NHL commissioner Gary Bettman] today," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren was quoted as saying in the Philadelphia Daily News. "He thinks, like I do, that these [incidents] are different coincidences, different situations, that have to be viewed differently, but the question was raised about ramifications if it happens again.
"So, obviously, we're under watch."
The NHL's threat of severe discipline could include a fine, suspension of coaches, or a combination of both, sources told ESPN.com.
Cote was given a match penalty for a head shot that sent Dallas forward Matt Niskanen into the boards in the third period of the Stars' 4-1 win over the Flyers on Saturday night.
Forward Scott Hartnell was suspended two games last week for checking Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Alberts in the head.
In the preseason, Steve Downie was hit with a 20-game ban after a high hit to the head of Ottawa's Dean McAmmond.
Jesse Boulerice was dealt the longest single-season punishment in league history when he earned a 25-game suspension for hitting Vancouver's Ryan Kesler across the face with his stick.
Randy Jones was given a two-game suspension after he sent Boston's Patrice Bergeron face-first into the boards on Oct. 27. Bergeron hasn't returned to action since he broke his nose and sustained a concussion as a result of the hit.
Cote leads the Flyers in penalty minutes with 61.
