Quite gutsy to start Rask at Air Canada Centre for his first NHL game. From listening to the game, sounded like he played well...made a few nice point blank saves and looked quite comfortable.

Nice 4-2 win...coming back from 2-0 down. If I were a Leafs fan I'd hate seeing how badly management messed up when they traded away Rask, especially with him getting the start and the win.

Kobasew is impressing me, tied for the team lead in goals with 9. Maybe Murray should take a few hints from him.

Post Hawks hire McDonough hired as new president...

Interesting...the Hawks continue their baby steps out of the deep freeze.

Don't forget that the leafs once finished in 8th and beat Ottawa 4-0 in the first round of the playoffs. I think this team is better than their record shows. They just need more consistency from their players, especially in goal.

Pens look terrible this year. After Crosby & Malkin (and maybe Gonchar) things drop off very dramatically. I think a trade needs to happen. Crosby needs someone to help put the puck in the net, and they need a decent goalie.

Jonesi, what do you think? You've seen more games than I have.

Crosby also seems unable to take things to the next level. He's playing good, about where he was last year more or less. But I expected him to elevate to another level this year. Maybe he just needs some help.

Everything is more or less the same as last year.. Recchi isn't producing at all (68 pts last year).. Has his legs but lost his hands. Staal can't get things going and we all know of Fluery's struggles this year.. Roberts is meh.

Crosby might not look to be at the "next level". He's taking the body alot this year, shielding players and not going for the "Sports center" plays this year. His faceoffs have really improved and he's finally getting a chance on the PK not to mention the whole captain thing..

To be honest it's really hard to gauge a team with Therrien.. His style is insane and you're lucky to see the same line 3 times in a game. To me it's frustrating and pisses me off.. But I'm still not accustomed to his coaching style yet.. Don't know if I ever will..

crosby deserves a better team than the pens. i don't think their ready for something like him, nor do they have the amount of talent to work with him. i also don't think he is captain material for an NHL team yet. an alternate maybe, but he should focus all of his attention on playing hockey and scoring goals, not captaining a team right now.

Despite the fact that Crosby is wearing the "C," I still think that Recchi and Roberts have more to do with the leadership role than Crosby does at this point in time. Perhaps the Penguins should move one of their highly skilled young forwards for some young up and coming defenseman.

I am mystified that there aren't at least 2 pages of this thread discussing the ins and outs of the Glen Hanlon firing. Is this not the biggest news to rock the NHL since Paul Kariya left teh Mighty Ducks? Come on, people! I expected passionate opinions about this!!

OK...I'll kick off the debate. I personally didn't think "Hanlon" sounded like a coach's name.

I dunno, I always thought he was a pretty decent coach...esp. in light of what he had to work with prior to this season.

It's this season that has me kinda -ing as they have signed some pretty decent players.

Speaking of Bowman, looks like the Leafs are in talks with the guy...?

From the NY Post...

Dialogue has resumed between Scotty Bowman and the board of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment aimed at working out a deal so the nine-time Cup-winning coach and one-time player personnel director would become the Toronto club's president and director of hockey operations, Slap Shots has been told.

Bowman has a very good situation where he is right now, so I cant see this ever happening unless there are some major incentives. Besides, who would be stupid enough to come to Toronto and work under this board of hockey wannabes and bean counters.

Bowman sounded very interested when he was on The Fan this morning. He was reffering to the talks that took place over the summer but he pretty much said, he was interested. He even went so far as to say, he told Detroit he was in talks and thought it would get done, it was Peddie who backed off 3 weeks before the season began.

And Tanebaum initiated the talks.

i finally get to see a non-eastern conference game... flames vs. wings, fun game. much more physical than i'm used to seeing over here (flyers aside).

side note: hartnell suspended for 2 games while checking a guy who was on his knees. wow this is bad play by the flyers, i'm surprised no bruins fan has spoken up yet. it seems to be some bad blood going on. flyers have taken out 2 bruins this season.

Well, all I gotta be smug about is that my team is ahead of Waldorf's.

So, his snickering at me in the pre-season? Pfffffft!

i never believed height as extremely essential, but at his current given weight, i think he needs another 15lbs. by the end of this season he will probly weigh like 150s.
