Yeah, definitely a cover up and the league not addressing is shocking. I mean it's not Patriots cheating level but it's definitely shady

Understandable, and I definitely feel that these big moves are to distract attention away from their scandal, no doubt

Let's not forget that Ovi and the Craps were tied tightly to the roids doping scandal as well as the Nationals, but the league made that disappear really quickly as well, along with Ovi's goal scoring for the next couple seasons lol

The end of an era, a true legend for sure. I missed him the last couple years when he didn't travel, but definitely will be hard not hearing him on the radio anymore

Use to love listening to his highlights on the way home from games in the mid-80's. Will be missed.

Sad note on Tony Esposito's death. Though a brief stint...he was our GM for a while in the late 80's. Recall him bringing the cup around Pittsburgh when it was won...

So Cabby I know you're a huge King Hanky fan, but do you agree with retiring his number? I mean the dude never won anything at the NHL level

I don't disagree the cup is everything but I disagree he never won anything. The team won the President's trophy at least twice while he was there and they went to game 7 of the finals in '14.

As far as retiring his number, I'm ok with it. Giacomin their #1 in the 70s had the same fate & his # (1) is retired.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Giacomin

A classic stand-up goaltender and a skilled stickhandler known for leaving the crease to play the puck, Giacomin was the Rangers' starting goaltender for the next nine seasons. He led the league in games played for four straight years from 1967 to 1970 and in shutouts in 1967, 1968 and 1971. In 1971 he shared the Vezina Trophy with teammate Gilles Villemure. Typical of his competitive nature, in a game in the 1971 playoffs against Chicago, when Bobby Hull skated over the back of his hand, Giacomin continued to play, and when the Rangers won the game, even the Black Hawks used the word "guts" to describe his determination. The Rangers went on to meet the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals in 1972, losing in a hard-fought six-game series.

From the Boston Globe
Law enforcement and first responders went to Hayes’s Milton home, where he was pronounced dead, a law enforcement official said. His death is not considered suspicious. The cause of death was not immediately available.
Sadly only leaves a couple options

On a lighter/amusing side...anyone follow the Kotkaniemi offer sheet from the Canes as retribution to the Habs' attempt on Aho awhile back?

The $20 signing bonus was awesome as well, that's Aho's number. And the press release for Kotkaniemi is basically verbatim to the Habs' announcement for Aho...

OUCH!

Really interested to see how this works. I have been a subscriber to NHL Game Pass for years on mobile devices now. Still unsure if all out of market games are going to be covered by ESPN+. If I can't watch all the Avalanche games I am not going to be a happy fan.

Me too, as long as I can remember I have had NHL Gamepass/TV/whatever the hell they renamed it.

I went to renew this year and found out it was ESPN now. I subbed to the bundle of Disney+/ESPN+/HULU because it was cheap and have actually watched some things on Disney. I have not even created a log in to Hulu. Not using my data for streaming ads.

Hopefully it is ok.

Yeah, I had read about it not long after the new contracts were signed for broadcast rights. I have been wondering how well it would work though cause I have loved the NHL.tv setup.

Depending on who you buy cellular service through if you are on certain tiers of Verizon unlimited you can get ESPN+ for free. As long as it works as good as it did before then I can't really complain cause it will actually save me money. The one thing though that will be interesting to see is when they start the coverage. With NHL.tv I was able to watch the Pre and Post game shows from the Avalanche local broadcast which I loved to do. I am worried I am going to lose that though which would suck. I will have to resort to streaming or something to get that back if that happens.

I turned on a bit of the game just to check out ESPN+ and yeah it wasn't bad but yeah the Rangers were not looking so hot. It's the preseason though and Colorado is notorious for always having a losing record then. If they would win during it I would be concerned at this point. Maybe the Rangers will be the same.

We are with T-Mobile who saves me 150 a year on MLBTV. I have not had pregame shows since 2010 when I dumped DTV, they are the only ones that have (had)? MSG network that has a 100% stranglehold on that content, same with YES network for the Yankees.

The Rangers were a hot mess. I was mostly paying attention to the Yankee game but what I saw was no cohesion, too many penalties, and a general lack of teamwork.

Hopefully, they get it together.

Yeah, when I went from NHL Gamepass on Cable to the Streaming version I lost pregame for like a year or two. Then one day I tried to connect to the feed a little early and it was there. Now I have had it for the last 3-4 years at least and it has been great. Hopefully, it stays and I don't have to catch it elsewhere.

Reading HF Board about all this ESPN+ shit and it just sounds terrible. No way to hide the clock time or score from ESPN+ so if you don't start the game live there is no way to get into it and watch from the beginning without knowing the score. 930/1030 games I typically catch at the start but plenty of 7pm/8pm games I might be 30min late to starting. NHL.tv issues had finally all been resolved the last few years and now it feels like we are starting all over again.

Watched the Avs preseason game last night. Yay hockey! We also rostered an AHL team for the first game though. Was good to get to see the prospects play though.

So last night while watching a little of the Kraken/Oilers game I dug around the Roku ESPN app settings. I was able to find a way to turn off scores of games in progress. So that at least will fix the issue of starting games late. I imagine it will still show the score once the game is over though unfortunately since it didn't have an option for that. I rarely miss a game completely and still watch it so that shouldn't be too big of a problem.

So, they have a shootout after a team wins but winning the shootout does not add a goal? (Rangers 4-Boston3) although the rangers scored & won the shootout.

I don't get it.

Evander Kane clearly is trying to deliberately sabotage his rep and career: He is being investigated for going around with a fake vax passport...
