Word is that Stevey Y is the Pink Things next GM, that would make perfect sense

Oil should fire Sharelli and see if they can pay a king's ransom for Stevie Y to join Edmonton.
Who am I kidding. He'd look at the offer, laugh...catch his breath...and laugh again. Then go to the ER because he passed out from laughing too much.

Not even Deano Lombardino can fix Edmonton.

Not even Steve Jobs.

Edmonton isn’t in that terrible of shape. They need to ditch some players, but they have some good ones too.
I dont think theyre good enough to be very competitive, but if they could move four or five pieces around...
I know. Easier said than done. Is the 2018/2019 season over yet?

If it were THAT easy, every team has a Cup. Duh.
Gosh. Dafuq, Taco.
This is 22 percent of the Oil roster. 5 players.
FFS.
Say it again, not even Steve Jobs can fix Edmonton. And he already has the iPhone of players in McDavid to start.

Slapstick aside, the Humboldt game is being broadcast tonight...I'll catch it but won't lie if my allergies kick in.

Meh.

If Edmonton can trade for these 5 players, they are Cup bound:
Erik Karlsson
Drew Doughty
Victor Hedman
Patrick Kane
Jordan Staal
There you go.

I would've suggested Crosby or Malkin but they are okay for 1C and 2C. But, they need a solid 3C. Jordan would be awesome.

I agree it was awful.
Show me one other serious accident that got that much media coverage as long as this one. Now they’re airing their hockey game? It’s a buttfuck town in the middle of nowhere. There are serious traffic fatalities everyday that don’t get more than 5 minutes of coverage on the news. Hell, there are even horrendous ones where entire busses full of people get annihilated, and they get covered for a week at most. This one has been going on for months upon months upon months.
It was tragic. It’s super sad so many lives were either ended or permanently changed for the worse. There have been other sports teams that died in plane crashes that never got this much coverage. Hell, air line crashes with 5 times the casualties don’t get this much coverage. All I see is bumper stickers and news coverage, and radio coverage, and constant stories and whatever else. I don’t know who to blame. I don’t know if the media keeps sensationalizing it, or if the town is pushing for this, or if it is both, but it’s getting to be a little much. No one knew this place existed before it happened. Now I can’t go a day without hearing about it.
Let the poor souls who were lost, Rest In Peace. Im not saying forget them. They should be mourned, but not like this.

Here's the rub: Hockey, esp. in Canada (and you should know this, right), is like a rite of passing. It's basically what is baseball or football for me growing up in Chicago. It's a religion. It's etched into the community. This includes the minor teams and etc.
So, for a small town, the Broncos is basically a foundation of that town culturally...and then, boom. Pretty much the entire team was gone. Think of that effect on Edmonton...if say, the entire Oilers squad went tragically like that. So, perhaps in a large multi-sport city like LA, Chicago, Boston...a catastrophic event like this may not have that sort of coverage because it's hockey. But, it's different when you're talking about a small Canadian town where much of what happens with that team is often a source of conversation. I dunno, I have NOT been following all the coverage to-date but in regards to tonight's game, I think it's of some significance given what that community has gone through. I don't think anyone is milking anything.
And I thought I was the cynic here.

I understand the town mourning. I expect them to mourn for a long time. But at 650km from Edmonton, I think it’s a bit much for Edmonton, or Alberta, or the whole country to be mourning, literally over 5 months after the incident happened, day in, day out. I’m willing to bet 99.9% edmontononians didn’t even know this place existed prior to this terrible accident. It honest to God feels like everyone jumped on the bandwagon now.
It’s different if the Edmonton Oilers went down. They are known not only Canada wide, but through many parts of the US. They (somehow) likely have millions of fans, whether it’s for the team as a whole, or for individual players themselves. How many Humboldt Broncos fans do you know? I didn’t even know the team or town existed until this happened. I’m willing to bet most nobody did either.
It’s not even in just the hockey communities. It’s everywhere. I have zero affiliation with hockey besides watching the NHL. Yet I can’t avoid this anywhere. It feels like it’s being crammed down everyone’s throats.
I dunno. Maybe I’m off my rocker. I don’t mean to be a dick to the people who were hurt or lost. I again will say it was extremely tragic and sad and unfortunate it happened. But to be airing their game now on national television? Seriously? How does that help anyone? Come watch a whole new team on the ice. I can see the whole town gathering. Maybe even neighbouring communities. But this is a bit much.
Sigh. I should just shut up. I’m only digging myself a hole here.

I don’t know what the point of the Karlsson trade was.
Everyone already knows Toronto is going to win the cup. Las Vegas even predicted so.
And Toronto subsequently started planning the parade route again

So, I found it kinda funny that Karlsson is in SJ and Hoffman is all the way in Miami.
They need THAT much distance between them.

They won't make it to the final four with that defense. The current playoff format also doesn't help, the first two rounds are both division opponents that means Boston and Tampa.
Senior Moderator
Hey man, no one thought Vegas would get to the Final with that D and look what happened. So, you never know...get into the dance and see. That forward unit is impressive though for the Leafs.
