He's the Matt Cooke/Raffi-Torres of this generation.
Can we just not go one generation without a player like that. I want to bring back the hard rough hockey fo the 90s but we don't need to keep that aspect of it.
He should have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs for any of his dirty hits, from series 1 on. If the league was serious he would have gotten more severe punishments before this. The fact that he's almost killed how many people and this is his 4th suspension in 105 games is a joke. He'll come back game 21 and blindside someone, the dude never learns. Such a joke

Considering he got rewarded for a $$$$ contract and won a Cup with his style of play, you think he was motivated to change his ways? I don't think he was re-upped to play less amped.
It's the reality of the situation...opponents will hate him obviously but if he's on your team, it's looked at differently and his teammates and coaches love it because he brings that "edge" to their play and etc. etc. The "cleanest" hitter I know is Clutterbuck maybe? I dunno...this is something I won't process to know. It's obviously a problem and grinders need to adjust...similar to pass-rushers in the NFL with the new QB protection rules.
It’s still preseason too, isn’t it? I know most of the lineup is likely solidified by now, but still... ain’t nobody really cares about winning in the preseason.
The Preds did well last year. I agree predictions before the season starts (when they actually made their pick) are silly but all outlets are making their picks now.
Also, I hope they are wrong and the Rangers pull a Knights upset. (Unlikely)
I'm not at all surprised. Preseason means nothing and here's reality coming into fruition. Just sucks.
Yeah, I read some hockey boards and people were ready to hand Edmonton the Cup after that preseason. Someone forgot to tell those folks that most teams rest their starters and it's an evaluation period for kids and prospects...I noted that Edmonton pretty much played their starters?

I didn’t catch a single preseason game, but, if they did use their starters often, well, I’m not surprised. That’s what they’ve done in the past when they’ve horribly sucked. Look good while you can.
I watched the game against NJ today and it was a god damn embarrassment seeing the gaping holes in that team’s line up against NJ. Edmonton had their asses handed to them, fair and square. They didn’t even stand a chance, it seemed.
And the Hawks looked pretty damn good in the first two games.
Well...the D has issues IMO...and needing the gimmicky OT to win both games to me is a BIT of a mirage.
BUT, the one positive is that Toews has been shot out of a cannon. He is notoriously a slow starter and the fact he's playing like this seems like he's been inspired by Kopitar and wants the same sort of renaissance. If Toews can continue to have this sort of play, Chicago just may make some noise instead of being a borderline WC team.

I dunno...the problem for me as an observer continues and will always be that blueline. Again, the Oil did nothing to address it...and with Sekera gone for awhile, not trading for or doing something about the defense is just...heinous. Still, it's just one game...let's see where Edmonton is at after 10 and go from there.
And if I were Edmonton, I will send Bouchard down after 9 games and not ruin his confidence no matter how good he may look.
Hate to bring up the dipshit Oilers again (apologizing in advance), but, anyone want to place bets on when Todd McLelland and/or Chiarelli will be fired?
Sports radio was blasting how the team played in their first game. Next game isn’t until tomorrow, but they were saying the team looked just as horrible as they did last year. Which is 100% true. I get the feeling heads will start rolling soon.
Our first two two lines are pretty good. Third and fourth lines fall off the face of the earth.
Defense pretty much entirely sucks. Sorry, I’m not buying the “Darnell Nurse will be awesome in a few years”. I don’t doubt he will be. But it sure as hell isnt helping anyone right now, much like the rest of the blue liners.
And goal tending (Cam Talbot) is abysmal from what I watched. The radio hosts even pointed out he NEEDS to be better. He had a full off season to regather himself. And he’s shitting the bed already, missing saves he should be making as a starting goalie.
This team is fucked. Even 6 McDavids on this team wouldn’t be able to save it from its own despair. There are way too many short comings, all over the place. But sure, go fire or reassign the assistant coaches, which seemingly worked the year prior but failed last year. No point trying to beef up that blue line. Or add depth to the offense. Or...

Unfortunately, Sharelli built this team using the blueprint his Bruins had when they won the Cup and modeling after the neanderthal-me-HeMan approach of the Kings and Ducks. So, not too much speed WITH skill past McDavid...Loocheech being the prime example. The next grievous mistake is the D...there is no true puck mover. Everyone who watches hockey today sees that it is all about fast puck movers that can get the play right to the forwards. The latter has to travel LESS distance to get to the other end...and oh, it keeps the puck away from your territory. Combined with all of this, you have Talbot who was actually okay but is now a basketcase because he knows his D isn't that mobile or fast and the puck is going to stay in the zone...so, basketcase.
You know why Mr. Quick is so "rated highly"...? He has Kopitar and Doughty protecting his zone...two of the best at defending and moving the puck. All he does is the splits and OMGOMGOMG Quick is awesome. You put Talbot there and OMGOMG...he's a Vezina candidate. Goaltending, while important, isn't rocket-science IMO.
Yeah we shall see... it’d be nice... but I get the feeling Boston will crush them. Boston has already played two additional regular season games over Edmonton, and Edmonton hasnt played since Saturday. Edmonton in the past did not do well with breaks in their schedule. They always struggled to come back after taking any time off.
