Ya the game was a blast. Lots of action and a great shootout! There were lots of obnoxious Pens fans all around us. Of course cocky as fuck early on when they had the lead but slowly quieted.

Hawks need to go into rebuild as well. Looks like their window has closed for sure now.
If the kids around Kane, Toews, Keith, and Seabrook can continue to develop, Chicago may get back to contending in the playoffs...but, I think they are not making the dance this year.

They're probably done for the foreseeable future. We need to accept the fact that Keith, Seabrook, and Toews (the new bad Toews) are all bad contracts.

I think of the trio, Seabrook is the only one with the "bad" contract. Keith's deal is actually very very team-friendly and while he's not the Norris-level, he's still a #1 on most teams. Toews has lost a future HoFer in Hossa and with the turnstile flanking him the last couple of years, I can't blame him for his lack of production.
The blueline's lack of depth and experience is IMO, the biggest issue right now. No one has truly replaced Hammer and well, when you lose a top-pairing D-man and have no one in his spot, well, alot gets exposed. Ask TacoBello about his team and their no-blueline strategy employed by Sharelli and he'll give you a piece of his mind.
Went to Raleigh to see the Avs play the Canes Saturday. Should have stayed home and saved my money. The Avs couldn't complete successive passes in the offensive zone to save their life. It was embarrasing.
Draisaitls contract is bad. He's a pretty good player. But he got a huge salary based on one year of solid performance... And he's unable to duplicate it again. Some say it's because he sucks (disagree). Some say he's paired with shitty players on his line (when not with mcdavid- agree). But yeah... A bit overpaid.
Oh well. The damage is done. The moves have been made. Chiarelli put the team in a world of hurt for the next few years. There's no real way of getting around it. Lucic is a 7M plug on the ice. We have no all star defence men... Sorry... Sekera isn't that good. He's not bad... But far from being great. Etc.

How is Edmonton's far system anyways? I haven't looked but checking the roster, you guys had that guy and Sleepyhead...and that's...it? Oh that Yamaguchi kid who is back in junior. I ask this because with giant contracts (see Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh) is to use the farm system to fill the rest of the team...cuz, well, kids are cheap.
Does Edmonton have the system yet to do this or are they seriously just relying on drafting #1 overall for every goddamn position? I think defense and goalie are next.
I think more of the problem Henry is that the "veterans" on that team are also kids, there really isn't much veteran leadership, I mean the captain is what 19? It's just a very young team. Toes and Sid had elder statesman to help mentor them and help them develop in the league, I don't see a lot of that in Edmonton, I feel like it's a lot of young kids and not much help

Isn't that Sackofribs, Hendicks, and Loocheech are there for? Both Sid and Serious were spring chickens too when they took over their teams with SOME older players as role players. Edmonton has that build too. I dunno. Just not sure WTF is up with a team that gets so many #1 picks and still can't do it right.

Well, don't matter. Sharelli's strategy is to get Dahlin. So, now, they'll have that #1 overall pick who is a d-man. Just need a goalie who is #1 overall picked too. When is a generational goalie showing up in the draft?
Cuz, Oil have picked #1 overall wingers...#1 overall centermen...so, yeah...just now need those 2 d-men and 1 goalie. Maybe the backup needs to be #1 overall too.
