Black Label Turducken cha~cha, why ya buggin...
Your team was smart to pick off Landon Ferraro off waivers, excellent 4th line energy guy, quick skater and has some offensive upside when he gets more experience. Sad to see him go but with The Magic Man back in action, we had to make room.

So Jack Edwards, the Boston homer, just screamed out "the better team did not win tonight".
He was right fibby, your wingdings picked the wrong 7 minutes to not dominate.

Also, I think the NHL should change the rules a bit for first overall draft pick. The three worst teams in the league should get an extensive public flogging for sucking so bad. The first overall pick should then go to the fourth last team.
Seriously. Those oilers fools don't deserve another chance at first pick, again. They should be humiliated, tarred and feathered and beaten for sucking so bad.

The native language of the aboriginal edmontonians has 50 different words for "first overall pick". However, due to their lack of concept of ownership, they don't have a word for "defense".

There is NO reason they should be doing worse than last year... And yet they are. The only glimmer of hope this year was when mcdavid was playing. And now he's out. And now the oilers are doing worse than last year.
Do you know what that tells every other team in the league? Crush mcdavid and you're guaranteed two points. Seriously, he now has an even bigger target on his back.
Yakupov is a bum. No idea how he was rated first overall.
Eberle has been non existent on the ice, since coming back from his injury.
Nugent-Hopkins and Hall are, at the very best, suited for the second line, but should normally be on the third line.
Pouliot? He's a bum too.
Draisaitl is the only guy worth his weight and has surprised a lot of people.
Defense? What's that? We have defensive players? They should all have been benched seasons ago. Again, at best, they should be pulled up from the minors when needed, not be our "go to" players.
Our goalies? They haven't been bad. They're not outstanding, but given the fact that the defensemen in front of them are like a couple non-moving barrels on the ice, there's only so much you can expect.
Pathetic.

There has got to be some rule that says if you got last year's first pick, you can't get this year's first pick. 4 of the past 6 top picks and still blow.
Feel sorry for the Edmonton fans. But isn't their CFL team good?
Well considering there are only like 8 teams, it's pretty hard not to be...
They're a bunch of fucking losers. And that's putting it nicely.

Oilers...don't play it well...and with the way the NHL is, it's all about how quickly you can get the puck to your forwards. Who does that? The defense. Smart, experienced, good defensemen...
The best teams all have a bonafide good d-corp...The goalie, while important, if decent (please see Quick, Crawford, Bishop, et al), can look GREAT behind a good blueline. True elite elite goalies like King Henrik and Price do not grow on trees...so, it's much easier to achieve less goals against by scheming good team defense and building a strong corp of 6-7 defensemen who are quick and smart with the puck.
Edmonton's blueline? Um...Nurse and Klefbom MAY become great but this is what, year 3435335 of their rebuild and instead of going with defense they kept drafting forward after forward after forward with their high picks...with the exception of the 2 blueliners all their "blue chip" defenders are forwards...
Horrid. And now, fast forward to what you see. They are seriously getting another #1 overall pick...disgusting.
The GWG that Hossa scored against Edmonton a week ago? Guess who broke Hossa out for that break-away in OT...? That's right: Defenseman.
Oilers...even in OT...are short...they have great forwards but unless they skate 3 forwards...their defenseman who is playing with the other 2...? Not much help?

You're still fairly new to this thread but, one of the sources of contention awhile ago that lead to bum-hurts and etc. was the argument about the importance of TEAM DEFENSE versus great goalies.

I whole heartedly agree with your above statements though. It's been well known for at least 5 years now, that we NEED good defensive players, yet we keep drafting offensive players. A good defenseman is hard to come by and they always come at a premium price.
Klefbom is ok, but nowhere near great. Nurse.. Maybe in 5 years. We have nothing. And yes, that loss to your Blackhawks the other night was brutal. Another genuine defensive break down. How about Andrew Ference? What a bum. Justin Schultz? What a bum.
Stuff like this happens ALL to often:
What also surprises me though, is even with all of these first overall picks, there are plenty of games where zero, or next to zero goals are scored. These guys were supposed to be the best of the best, over the last five years... And yet we get blanked on the score board. Even if we had the greatest defensemen in the league, if you can't get a single goal, you're still not going to win.
I always wonder if the forwards don't pull their weight up front, because they're worried about what's going on behind them with defense. You can't cover two roles successfully, and as such, they drop the ball.

Per the comment there in bold...from what I've seen, the lack of scoring is because again, blueline...no one on D to push the puck to them. Every team will at one time or another be on the attack...a sound D will take the puck back and send it to the forwards who go back the other way and possibly have an odd-man rush or hit the opposing zone with speed...voila: scoring chance.
If the Oilers' uber-talented forwards like Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle, and etc. are not getting the puck with a true chance...how can they score?
And naturally, the goalies...OH WAIT...TALBOT IS THE NEXT INCOMING FUTURE HoFer and VEZINA MVP...not. He's now a basketcase like Scrivens because haha, every game, he knows he needs to be beyond perfect...I hear Oilers are now going to ruin Nilsson too?
