Oilers didn't really give anyone up that's good. They signed a 4th line guy just before the deadline and then left him unprotected
the one guy I wish we gave away was Benoit Pouliot. That guy is worth 1.0M. And we're paying him 4.0M

Some fans going full-retard on this now about how it helps Chicago's cap situation. Dumb@$$es: You just lost one of the best players on the team. There is no one you can sign with the cap relief that would replace the class, quiet leadership, puck possession, scoring, and god-like 2-way play...
Hawks have seen a huge number of departures of good players but for me, this one hurts the most. Some may joke about how he was mercenary going from the Wings to the Pens and then the Hawks. But, in his last move, it worked great because he's a 3-time Cup winner...
Hope he can come back.

Blackhawks may have lost one of their best, and it sucks for the team, but can you blame Hossa? According to the sports radio station here, they said Hossa was getting a major salary cut in this coming year. They think it's not coincidence he chose to not play this year.
They're like "ok he played all season ok, but his salary is being cut by 3M in the next season and he's still expected to put the same effort in as he did last year... it's not coincidence."
He's choosing not to play and falling back in the allergy. There's no doubt he has the allergy, but rather that why the fuck would he put up with it while making way less and still expected to be a top performer?
I have no idea if that is true or not... but I mean... it kind of makes sense. If you made 100k a year and then next year your company says they're only paying you 25k and you're still expected to do the same amount of work... would you?

Reading up on the "Gunk" issue, it's apparently common enough with some players and the medication needed to treat it has caused careers to end.
Dunno...just quite sad to see Hoss go. He's seriously a pleasure to watch...Never takes a game off and quietly just goes about producing and playing a great defensive game.

If he retires the Yummycawks will face all kinds of penalties for that 12 year contract, so they're going to work the system and use the LTIR to escape cap hell that Moogy said that Yummy would have
Dunno. Seems to be what most people are saying Chicago and Hossa will agree to. Again, this help to the cap does not replace the player Hossa is. And with the space available, there is no UFA that can step in to fill that void.
Ack is right. I heard the same.
Yes his contract was front loaded. I don't doubt he's a classy player. But he's also not a stupid player.
I think the allergy is bothersome, but shit, if he made 6M next year he would likely tough it out. But since he's making peanuts he just says fuck it. It's not worth it. I'm sure it's bad enough that the money isn't there for him to want to struggle through with it. I dunno.

Again, hard to speculate and not the team doctor or his personal physician. But per the link below, many players had to give up playing hockey because the "gunk" got progressively worse and almost untreatable.

Anyways, a bit of a downer to otherwise what will be interesting tonight with the LV team announced. I'm interested to see who they pick and what trades McPhee makes.

Okay, Taco. I see what you were saying...Puck Daddy (good blog if you don't read it) has the cynical side of this LTI: https://sports.yahoo.com/marian-hoss...165030318.html

The NHL made you wait 10 hours between the Golden Knights submitting their expansion draft picks and making them public, but the wait is over.
The Vegas Golden Knights unveiled the 30 players they took from each NHL team during the NHL Awards on Wednesday night, and it looks like they’ll have a pretty solid team. Of course, most of the picks leaked well before the Awards. But shhh. Don’t tell anyone. The Knights revealed their selections a few at a time throughout the show, in reverse-order of the 2016-17 NHL league standings. As they do, we’ll keep this post updated. You can also keep track of the Golden Knights’ trades here.

Goalies look okay. But, that blueline is so-so and so, I would suspect LV is going the old Edmonton route of making their goaltenders go bat-poop crazy.
With a roster made largely of D men, it looks like they'll be trading lots prior to the start of season. Maybe that wasn't a bad tactic... D men are always high in demand. When they're good, that is. Curious to see how the first season pans out for them.
I think Yumcha is right.. the goalies will have their work cut out for them.
Oilers ended up giving up Grifin Reinhart (sp?)... I know he was always a big question mark for them. I think the Oilers might be happy that he's gone.

I didn't end up watching the awards though... how did McDavid's suit look? I've seen photos were his suit looked 2 inches too short, all over the place.

Yeah, good for him. Though if Crosby didn't miss the first 7 or 8 games of the season, he would've claimed some of that hardware McDavid got.

It looked okay as I had it on the background...one of the highlights for me was the tribute to Bryan Bickell. And McDavid won his award by a land-slide. This is not a Trump/Clinton thing at all. More like a Golden State Warriors vs. Chicago Bulls game. Not even close.
There is no doubt who is the best player in the League in my mind: McDavid. Watching him go at full-speed and with those hands. Holy fark. He's like Pavel Bure who can also set-up.
Interesting trade, to say the least. I'm not sure what to think of it.
I think Eberle had a bad year... But I don't think he was out and done. He was being chased out of town for under performing in the playoffs. Not sure if it was justified though.

Yeah, couldn't tell you. I think he's a pretty talented winger and with the right center probably can put out 60-70 points every year. Didn't really know he had a bad playoffs but if he was in Todd's doghouse, well, that may be enough to send him packing to Nassau.

Yeah, definitely not the typical expansion drafts of prior years...LV made out pretty well even if the team still does not look like it is made up of the best selections.
