The short answer is because they are dumb. The long answer is mostly that it's Iginla's fault, his bonuses are whacking 4 mill off the cap and they don't have much room to work with anyway. There's plenty of guys who can fight on the Bruins so he became expendable on the ice. His presence in the locker room and in the Boston community will certainly be missed.

Chiarelli is saying he is one of the most important acquisitions he made as a GM.
