I like Crosby, but I've have no problem calling him out in the past when he sucked out. That IMO was not a dive. He was knocked down, plain and simple.
Surprised there wasn't more said about the obvious boarding call in OT when Benn was face planted into the end board from behind. Refs had the whistles buried deep in that OT.

No Benn is 22. Not sure who 24 is. You saying 24 on Canada should have been called for boarding? My glasses don't allow me to see Canadian penalties.

Ya, there was a play shortly after where a Canadian should have been called on a hook or slash from behind too. Can't really complain about the officiating.

I was surprised on both of those hits, but if you're not gonna call it 1 way, then you can't call it on the other end. They definitely were letting them play late in the third and in the OT

Benn's a diver, how dare he get crosschecked into the boards like that! Teemu told me he dove...

Could Hiller take the reins and shut out the Olympics?

I hate you.
Everyone seems to be afraid of playing Russia, naturally they're at home plus Malkin, Overat...Ovechkin, Datsyuk, etc... But they haven't won a best on best tourney in over 30 years. I think the Swedes will knock them off comfortably in the semis if they get by the Finlandians.

Well, I'm just happy that all these hockey games here-on-in should be quite entertaining. Still not sure where the hockey superpowers (i.e. Sweden, USA, Canada, and Russia) will end up...but, I like USA the most right now.
And what's scary is that the Uncle Sams have not even put together a full-game IMO. If they do, I think the other nations have to be worried.
...even the Finlandians.

The subject of the NHL's participation in future Olympic Games came up at a joint media conference Tuesday in Sochi featuring NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, NHL Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr and IIHF president Rene Fasel.
The NHL has not committed to sending players to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Team Canada executive director Steve Yzerman continued to throw his support behind the NHL’s participation in the Olympics when asked about it in a press conference last week. But, as expected, Bettman said this will be something addressed down the road.
“The primary building blocks are logistics of travel, to and from the Olympics,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said afterwards. “It was a big challenge coming to Sochi and it certainly would be a big challenge if we were to go to South Korea. Player insurance is always a factor with the magnitude and length of player contracts these days, an incredible number of assets at risk.
“So those were two of the most fundamental things we talked about.”
Daly added that the NHL’s participation this time was helped by the fact that NHL broadcasters CBC and NBC also were Olympic rights holders. But the rights holders have yet to be determined for 2018.
“So we haven’t really given any serious consideration to South Korea at all,” Daly said.
The players will have a big say on this issue. Fehr promised a full and thorough investigation as to whether continued Olympic participation is what the players want. The NHL players’ volition to compete in the Olympics has been the main driving force behind their participation in the Winter Games.
World Cup closer to return
Fehr hinted that the two sides are closer to announcing details on a World Cup of Hockey. There hasn’t been one played since 2004 and the speculation continues to be the next World Cup could happen as soon as 2016.
There was the usual playfulness between Bettman and Fasel. At one point Fasel said there is nothing like seeing the smile of a hockey player when he wins a gold medal. To which Bettman was quick to reply, “Except winning the Stanley Cup.”
Finally, Daly was asked about expansion. There was a recent newspaper story in Seattle that said the NHL has targeted the city for an expansion team.
“I think whenever I’m asked that question, I make the same comments,” he said. “The Pacific Northwest, we think is a good hockey area. I think the Vancouver Canucks have done extraordinarily well in developing that area as a good hockey market. Doesn’t mean we’re going to expand there, doesn’t mean we’ve made any decisions in that regard.
“I said the same thing about Quebec City. I also believe it’s a very good hockey market with a very strong and passionate fan base. So there’s nothing more I can say on expansion than we did [at the NHL Board of Governors meetings] in Pebble Beach, which is at some point in time it might be an appropriate consideration for us to bring to the board. But we haven’t reached that yet.”

Hiller's announced superiority was premature. The Swiss team gets ousted by Latvia...

I never "announced his superiority" I simply commented on how well he had done and posed the question of whether it could continue. Today we found out the answer was no, no he could not, not even for 1 more period.

Really? Score?

Twas lazy. Now I have to worry about the Cinderella Latvians.

And what was the Swiss Cheese team's rankings compared to Latvia? Cuz, if those rankings mean anything, it should've been 3242347329742943 to 1 for team Watchmakers.

Hockey has a niche European/North American audience compared to Moogelino's favorite sport. The pomp and circumstance that comes along with the Olympics draws a broader fan base and widens interest in the game which is good for the sport of hockey.

:ghey: Futbol World Cup is truly global, silly comparison IMO.

I dunno, just the other side of the coin.

But, the NHL's issue is not global-based...the Count has challenges alone just trying to sell to the NA market. What is silly is that in the midst of a season, he takes away all momentum from an arguably attention-deficient GENERAL audience (not the hardcore fans like ) to go on a 2 week hiatus.
My simple argument is that the Olympics are a better platform to expand interest in the casual fan base than a so-called "World Cup of Hockey" which has been played, umm twice.
I'm sure some might be able to disprove my theory though.

Last time I checked teh Count and the NHL are in dandy shape despite a handful of franchises in the sunshine states and some town named Columbus.

In fact all the lead up to the games does nothing but hurt the NHL as well. Takes the focus off the league.

I can't dispute what you're saying. IMO you're probably right. But prove, tangibly how the Olympics help the NHL? I don't think anyone can. Sure it's great attention for 3 weeks but does it put butts in seats and more eyeballs on the games post Olympics? Doubtful.

The Swiss were ranked 7th, 150 points behind Canada and the Lativians are ranked 11th.

But, what makes the Olympics such a bloody coinflip is that in one game, anything can happen...

I agree with Fibby that a world cup or canada cup or super hockey international fun time cup will never carry any weight outside of the hardcore fan base. As much as we like hockey, no one else cares about it. No one (outside of Canada) ever saw the World Juniors and became a hockey fan. The Olympics carry a special appeal, my mother watches absolutely no sports yet even she watches the Olympics.
No matter how full of himself the count may be, he can never recreate that appeal for his international tournament without those 5 special rings.
