It was posted on an anti-Juve website. Basically it says that 'here is the new Juve kit for 2006/7 season, and (because of the scandal), their traditional vertical lines will now be horizontal(like a prisoner's shirt)."

My team was actually eliminated in the 1/8th final by Juventus with two minutes to go because the dumb keeper had to do another roll after he caught the ball and dropped it. I wonder if Juventus paid him some $

But don't worry, there's always next year. And I really wanted them to play Arsenal because I think their attacking style would have suited them pretty well.

haha damn all this going in circles about zidane and materazzi. i will say that what zidane did was kind of ridiculous, but i can totally see why he did it at the same time. put yourself in his shoes for a second... you have a history of doing some whack things to people on the field in heated moments (short temper i guess), its the world cup final, pressure is on, crowd is blaring, materazzi is constantly talkin shit and you just lose it? after 110+ mins of soccer or whatever minute it was. i mean come on we all know his actions were ridiculous, but if you were him in his situation im sure some of you would walk away or talk shit back, some of you would have done what he did... its all situational given the events that transpired, the people involved, and the temperment of those people. we can beat this topic to death but i'm just interested to see what Zidane says pushed him over the edge like that.

oh and also back to the 2010 issue... ive read more and more about diff soccer issues in south africa and just general crime and violence stories that have been pretty recent, and that alone makes me think fifa will hand off this wc to another nation. its feasible for them to host a cup, but at the same time, it just simply would not be the best of ideas. i commend fifa for tryin to rotate the wc, but they have to be realistic. i expect to hear of the cup being moved by the end of the year.

also, can't wait to hear the match fixing punishments (assuming there are some)... will be interesting to see the sell off of players, as they are already being linked to various teams. ManUtd is in chaos right now with all their rumors, hopefully can get some of that taken care of here in the next few weeks. also, a bunch of new kits are being released, already seen arsenal's, back to the typical red and white kits with new sponsor emirates. man utd is going retro with new sponsor AIG (go figure, glazer owns the team and all of a sudden an american company sponsors them) and their kits are revealed soon too. bayern got new away kits all white pretty much instead of the recent gold ones. (that joke juve kit post just made me think of this.) i just like seeing the new kits that are designed, i kinda wanna just design some myself and send em to the teams. some of the kits teams have are retarded.

Didn't Sepp Blatter promise Africa a World Cup as a campaign promise to get reelected. That's why SA has the WC, and why politics might keep it there.

The wait is killing me. The punishment should have been announced already, but it's been postponed for a few days. No doubt Cuventus and Bilan are making back room deals to get their sentences reduced.

Maybe we should close the WC thread and start a new 2006/7 European football thread?

Actually I believe the election is in 2007, so people think that he might select another country after that election.

I'm talking about the last election a few years back. He won the last election mainly on the strength of Africa's votes, so he is now obligated to give the WC to Africa. No?

I was thinking the same thing. What do the other footballers think?? New Soccer topic for general soccer talk?

Or do we need to leave this open so people can still talk about Zidane??

The only person that still wants to talk about Zidane is Fastacura.

Sure. Let's start a new one. Hell, I could mod a sub-forum for the world of international football. Imagine the threads we could have as official stickies: EPL, Serie A, League Un, La Liga, Bundes...etc...

I think I'm onto something here.

^ LOL, not quite. Adam already hates how many sub-forums we have. The odds of more being added are slim to none...

OK, I'll wait for a few more replies, then lock this down. The new one will probably just be called The Official Soccer Thread . This way you can discuss any league (European, MLS, and so on)...

BTW, while this is open, they said that 90 million people watched the World Cup in the US (not the final, but the whole tourney).

Not bad...

Sounds good. We should have 2 threads, the Official Soccer Thread and the Official Zidane thread. We can ban FastAcura from the Official Soccer Thread.

They arent in any order, they got all mixed when I uploaded them.

No, the guy looking back, or in the centre of the pictures is not me, those are my cousins.

Yes, that was a great barbacue, and it was only for three people

:ibtl: count me in as one of the millions who watched. But it'll be another 4 years before I watch another soccer game. Even with the "best" players in the world participating I wasn't really impressed.

now, klinsmann denied he had interest in the us coaching job earlier, so we'll see if that comes up again.

How can you not be impressed with so much skill on display I guess the problem is, its hard to appreciate the game without understanding the game, understanding the nuances, and the skill in each play. And you cant really gain an understanding of the game watching it every 4 years. If you took someone who never watched NFL football, basketball, or baseball, and ever 4 years had them watch the superbowl, world series , etc. they would probably think it sucked.

the only reason why there are a lot of people in this country that dont like watching soccer is because they dont understand the game.

I actually like Loew. I remember "Das Magische Dreieck" he "built" in Stuttgart with Bobic, Balakov and Elber. He's a really offensive coach, so the Germany games should be fun to watch.

It's because not enough goals are scored, the players flop on the ground and hold their shins like pussies, and because it's not amenable to US TV coverage, where there have to be breaks in the action for commercials.

Maybe they should change the traditional rules and turn one goal into 6 points followed by a penalty kick for an extra point

Zinedine Zidane could be stripped of his World Cup Golden Ball award, FIFA chief Joseph Blatter has stated.

The Frenchman pipped Fabio Cannavaro and Andrea Pirlo to the honour, but there is the possibility that FIFA could act to reverse the decision made by a panel of journalists after his head-butt on Marco Materazzi in the World Cup Final.

“I’ve ordered our disciplinary section to open an investigation regarding the incident,” Blatter told the Repubblica newspaper. “We’ll await their findings before taking any action.

“The winner of that award is not decided by FIFA, but by an international commission of journalists.

“Saying that, FIFA’s executive committee has the power and the need to intervene when dealing with comportments which go against the ethics of sport.

“But we have to wait for the time being. Being innocent until being proved guilty is a sacred principle.”

Zidane shocked the footballing community with his gesture, one which Blatter has admitted was rather unexpected.

“It hurt me,” he continued. “I’ve known Zidane for many years. Seeing him react like that was bad, for himself and for fair play.

“He was so distraught after the game that when the French officials told him to go and collect his medal, he replied by stating that he didn’t deserve a medal.”

The Italian newspaper also used the interview to ask Blatter why he wasn’t part of the ceremony in which the Azzurri were handed the World Cup trophy.

“I was convinced that the honour should have gone to my Vice-President and UEFA President Lennart Johansson,” he explained.

“The decision had already been taken after the quarter-finals when it became clear that the title would have gone to a European nation. I thought it was the right thing to do.”

Meanwhile, Zidane is set to speak publicly for the first time after his controversial red card on French television this evening.

Zidane speaks up later today....

I'd like to see him stripped of the Golden ball award regardless of what comes out. But I'd also like to see the Matress suspended if proven he said some harsh things. Hopefully it works out for everyone involved.

I'd love to see Cannavaro get it. IMO he deserved it more than Zidane even before the incident.

Agreed with Zidane... but it will be hard to prove what Matress said. I mean, you already have about 4-5 different "translations" as to what he said, so obviously it's going to be hard to prove. I also wouldn't think they would suspend Matress, regardless of what he said. It would be setting a precident that can open up a huge can of worms down the road. Next thing you know people will be fighting during matches, and one guy will just come out and say, well, he said very harsh things to me and I snapped. So hopefully they don't start trying to police words on the pitch, b/c that won't end well for FIFA.
