My wife and I were discussing this yesterday. She agreed, more than likely in the 350 range. Then again, we could all be wrong..
I do the same when someone asks "how much power is your TL making" I say over 330 which it currently makes 334 whp.

Didn’t I roughly call this months ago? I pretty much stated that it wouldn’t be anywhere near 400hp.
The Accord 2.0T was a good indicator of where peak horsepower would be on future Honda models versus the segment competition. That said and given the Accord 2.0T’s performance, it may punch above its weight as well.
I’ll reserve final judgment until I see performance test results.

C&D is quoting the 355/354 and estimating $45K. I think they need to be really aggressive from the value proposition standpoint because they are bringing a knife to a gunfight on the spec sheet vs M340i and C43.

Hmmmm. Given that Honda does not under rate their horse power numbers will this thing even keep up with the current S4/C43 that they tested the mules with. If not, for a brand new platform this is a HUGE disappointment. G70 about to release an update and they have increased their numbers as well. Is this car alright behind all the competition????? You can forget about dealer markups on this thing....

Get ready to turn on the fanboi excuse generator:
Power doesn’t matter, it could still be fast
Acura says it’s an estimate, if still could be 385
Acura could be underrating it like the Germans
It’ll be cheaper than the Germans
It’ll probably be more reliable than the Germans
355 is more than enough power, nobody needs 400
SHAWD is a gamechanger

I find it amusing that in this day of "emotions" and how cars make you "feel"...many people still focus on one number and spec-sheet race between cars
Get ready for the tons of magazine articles and YouTube videos that will complain to high heaven about how the TLX-S is under-powered.

It cuts both ways. Plenty of RDX owners here point out that it’s more powerful than the Q5, while ignoring the fact that the Q5 is actually a fair bit faster (and probably being underrated as the norm for ze Germans).

Disclaimer: don't get me wrong, I personally wish EVERYTHING had more HP, but I will await for more when the car is actually out and more reviews are out.

I though the Type-S was suppose to be Acura’s most powerful sedan. Hopefully the Type-S outperforms the RLX Sport-Hybrid.

To be a "Honda fanboi" for a second...it would be interesting to talk to the engineers behind this project (and honestly any other performance variant of a everyday car) with regards to how they decide on HP numbers. Given the numerous government and corporate constraints on emission, efficiency, reliability, etc. etc. Honda has generally been a conservative company...

Before everyone out of hand, take this into consideration.
HP and TQ numbers are just that, NUMBERS
They mean nothing IF the engine is "Under rated" like the Germans.
Only way to prove this, is to have a type-s put on rollers..
Needless to say, Hp and Tq are only part of the equation. Let the vehicle get tested by journalist 1st. I'm sure the enthusiast ones will provide more solid numbers. At the end of the day, this is exactly what I've as well as others have been saying. Give credit to Acura for putting their best foot forward and making something worth talking about. You can't expect this company who has been out of the automotive world for over a decade to make something that would utterly shit all over proven vehicles. IF the numbers are NOT over rated, it would be comparable to my TL which will make it a quick car, for sure, but not going to beat M340i, C43 or S4.

The number is definitely disappointing on paper. We were all expecting 365-385HP. But let's be honest again, if it was all about HP, Why infiniti Q50 with 400HP isn't outselling the Germans or even the TLX. The answer is simple, the car isn't fast, doesn't handle well and has poor resale value. Yes, HP is good but it has to make sense. I heard that Q5 is faster than RDX and we all know RDX has more HP than Q50.
At this point, let's wait and see how it handles and keep up with the competition. I am sure most of us are disappointed here.

One piece of hope: the CTR appears to be underrated from the factory, as it makes almost as much WHP as the advertised BHP. Now, that's not the case with the same(ish) motor in the Accord 2.0T and RDX, but perhaps Honda/Acura only does this with their high performance cars? If it's able to put down at least 350 to the wheels, it might do alright.
And if it doesn't, and you're one of the few who still wants to buy this car, at least there probably won't me any markups .

As for underrating the power I don't see that as a Acura thing. Its pretty much the 3 German brands gaming ECU regulations. Will add this from Automobile magazine. Looks like Toyota with the BMW engines from the Z4 M40i in the Supra are also playing underrate.
"Just a few weeks ago, Toyota announced that the 2021 Toyota Supra would be even more powerful (and faster) than the 2020 Supra. Then a week or so later, it did its best to justify sticking it to the folks that bought a 2020 model. Now, however, we’re finding out that the 2021 Supra (the inline-six model, of course) really puts down 388 horsepower at the wheels – 11 ponies more than Toyota’s newly advertised 377 horsepower figure. So, what does this really mean? Well, the true power of the 2021 Toyota Supra could be approaching the 450 horsepower mark at the crank, and that’s a huge bump in power.

But don't get me wrong I am still excited to see what the finished product looks like but it's important to keep things into perspective here and what many of us find disappointing is that this was a chance for Acura to really shine but as of now this looks like a double vs a home run. Yeah, it's still great that you got on base but...

If you read between the lines, this probably also means we are not going to see Advance options on this car. Acura absolutely has to keep this price well under $50K ($45K would be fair), and I just don't think they can do that optioning up the car too much. Consider that the current SH-AWD A-Spec comes in at a hair under $45K, and this car is supposed to be better (read: more expensive), and I really don't think they'll be able to add that much while maintaining the price difference with the Germans.

Yup, I agree with you here that is will probably start at mid 45k with those numbers. If it was 380 hp it probably would have been 48-51k. Based on pics that we have of the Type S they are still trying to keep it affordable. If I am not mistaken the Type S does not even have fog lights.

BMS who makes the JB4 already does one for the Honda Turbos. If the TLX sells it will guaranty that there will be one for the car. Figure about 50+ at the wheels for under $600.

Or maybe this will turn out like the Supra where for the 2nd year, Acura says "oh btw, the car now comes with an extra 50 horsepower . first year owners, we love ya, but sorry not sorry".

Performance numbers aside, I feel sorry for the marketing team since they can't do much to spin things around. Raw numbers do count when moving up in the power segment. I agree that the driving may feel awesome, but will be a tough sell to get people into dealerships based on specs as one of the lower hp cars in the segment. The Stinger already has higher specs and dealerships are not getting people to come in to buy them, Kia badge aside.
They need to have a great price, if not will be a major burn for Acura.

That's certainly not good if they over shot their numbers and the final production numbers are less.
Then again, If you follow Acura's marketing all these years, they never fail to disappoint. I didn't have much if any high expectations with the Type-s. Truth be told, with a tune and a type-r turbo upgrade on the 2.0T, it will be faster than the type-s. That's the best part of the 2.0T. Its an already proven engine with aftermarket support. A majority will buy the 2.0T and modify them, at least retune them. As for the Type-s, it will be a very long time before someone makes a tune for that engine and if it does have an E-turbo, forget it. Money on the 2.0T all day.

You can't hype a car up this much, market it as THE sporty sedan and then come out of the gate like this. And if the $45K figure is accurate that tells me all that I need to know, as a brand new model with tons of new engineering in it the costs have to be made up somewhere so you can bet that the Type-S is going to be missing many options and goes right along with my theory that it is going to be basically a more powerful A-Spec.
But don't get me wrong I am still excited to see what the finished product looks like but it's important to keep things into perspective here and what many of us find disappointing is that this was a chance for Acura to really shine but as of now this looks like a double vs a home run. I for one understand this. This is why I own a fully loaded 2019 X3 M40i which is tuned. It cost me 47K out the door, more options than the Type-s and I put down 355 hp and 418 Tq to all 4 wheels. Just with a mild tune. I'd be very close to 400 hp with a down pipe and a stage 2 tune. The best Acura to me, is my 3rd gen TL. It's a timeless classic.

It wouldnt surprise me to see them offer the v6 in the advance trim after the first year. Since i want the advance trim w the 6, i still dont know which one to buy.
