Hay-soos Christ, I can't believe installing this torque damper is so hard for me. I have to loosen the bolts on the strut bar at the firewall to get that strut tower brack on, and I'm too nervous to try and pop off the cowl or any of the other pieces for fear I'll crack it or something... not to mention I can't find any pieces to fit a screwdriver.
People on the CL forum tell me to just lift up the passenger side of the car to lower the bolts on the strut tower, but I guess they don't understand my car isn't lowered, so I have to lift it like 6 inches off the ground to get those strut tower bolts to drop enough.
I feel like just taking to a shop and having them do it ffs (did I post about this before...?)

you have to lift it regardless of whether you're lowered or not because there is always weight on the shock itself holding the bolts up. Really you could probably lift it just enough to get that wheel off then you have maximum room to play with it... That way you could actually get the strut to slide right on out or at least have the bolts flush the with tower. Might have to step on the rotor a bit to push it down further.
does that help at all?

I think I see what you are talking about now, you would have to undo the entire bar.
#4304
mine wasnt too hard to install.. minus the strut bar that is a pain to take on and off other then that it was a fast install..
you should of invited the guy to the forum MIN =)

Well the thing is I tried lifting the passenger side and it got to a point where the passenger side was lifted so high off the ground that I was scared shitless I was going to end up wrecking the car. Like maybe too much weight on the driver's side would mess something up. Not sure, maybe I'm just paranoid.
But yeah the guys in the CL forum say "just lift it up a little bit. Maybe 2 inches" but I swear my tire was like 3-4 inches off the ground and the bolts still weren't low enough. My point was that maybe since they're lowered, they didn't have to jack the passenger side up as much as someone who is still in 4x4 mode. I had my OEM scissor jack sitting on a cinderblock, fully extended and it still wasn't lifted enough.
btw never done anything to my strut bar before, but why is it a pain to work with? I was thinking I'd just loosen the bolts on the strut bar at the firewall, then take the nuts off where it gets bolted onto the strut tower, then just tilt the bar back a little and slide the bracket on, tighten everything up. Other people on the CL forum who said they did it that way, just said they loosened it, didn't remove it completely. However I can't figure out just how to get to those bolts at the firewall, is all.
and yeah Marco, that's pretty much what I'm trying to do. Ingalls side mount I bought this thing back in like November and it kills me that I still only have it partially installed.
I think I'll take another look at it this weekend.

i just read what you were saying rapture..
maybe im alittle confused but hopefully i understand you are trying to install a tq damper like the pic above but cant take off the strut bar cause its stuck on there?? have you tried alittle persuasion?? ( meaning a BFH and a strong screw driver ) if in not understanding it correctly do you mind taking a picture for me so i have a better idea what you are talking about??

Rap - Jack up the passenger side, put it on a stand, remove the wheel, place foot on top of rotor, stand up lol. That should push that strut right out of the tower. Oh and you did unbolt everything from the strut tower right?
Just don't dent the dust guard on the back of the rotor or step on the caliper. Also like Brandon said, persuasion!

and clee, you sure that wouldn't damage anything? That kinda sounds a little unsafe (for the car, I mean) Do you need to hold the rotor down while you're lifting the bar up to get the bracket in place? It won't mess up my alignment or anything, will it?
Ugh, I may just end up doing it you way, clee. If everything seems okay. Some people on this site make DIY projects seem so complicated that it just frustrates me to no end.

the cowel is the area where the windshield wipers are.. it has vents... should have tabs to open it or a press tab to open it.. I know on the TSX thats where mine go into the firewall and i would think they are correct you would have to loosen or remove those nuts to lift the bar up.. i know with my aftermarket bar even though i had a screw to loosen it up i still had to just take it all off to move it out of the way for my TQ damper
you have any time off this coming week? you could pop by in the afternoon and i could take a look..
