Green Tea Mattress Update

So we're about a month shy of a year with our Amazon "Green Tea" King mattress and we love it. We wanted to do the Purple but someone recommended the GT right as we were ordering and at only $200, we figured what's the worst that could happen. My wife and I both travel 1-2 weeks out of the month and look forward to coming home and sleeping on the GT. I was hoping to get a year out of it but I'm guessing we'll get much longer.

I know only spending $200 for a king (it was on sale) was terrifying for something you are spending so much time one but it's worked out well.

The first week was brutal, my back hurt every day but I read reviews that this may happen so I stuck it out and now we like it but want a bit softer. I figure if we get a year out of it, I'll be happy and then buy a Purple.

I just ordered a purple pillow for my wife but their shipping is super slow so I won't get it until next Tuesday, looking forward to it; any one have a review of it here?
One year update on the Zinus mattress?

I purchased the Helix mattress(bed in a box). It's been a few months and I really like it. What's nice is you can have it "built" to your liking. Answer a few sleep questions and it will come up with one for you based on your sleep preferences

Not sure if you saw my post above yours but we really like it. Visually, it looks really good in terms of shape, height, etc and it sleeps just as well as ever. I was really worried about such a cheap mattress but I like it as much, if not more than the tempur I had before.

~1 month update on the Casper mattress. We bought the original Casper (not the cheaper Essential nor the pricier Wave) We also bought the Adjustable base and all the sheets/duvets/pillows etc. The Casper adjustable base is no frills: no USB ports, no lights, no massage.. but was 1200 bucks. It also touted the ability to fit in any bedframe, which it did, but left too much space around ours for the liking. We really wanted to like it but alas, the mattress is just too soft. I sort of miss the Zinus mattress as well and want to go back to it if our next trial doesn't work. Just ordered a Nectar mattress with their adjustable base to see if it's any better. The Nectar mattress is cheaper, base is cheaper PLUS comes with two free pillows. If the mattress doesn't work out, we'll return it and get the Zinus mattress and probably keep the base.

Surprisingly simple. I was hearing stories that they've been ghosting emails but they replied to me in a very timely manner. Sheets/pillows/duvets they sent me a UPS shipping label and I just sent it all back. For the adjustable base and mattress, they partner with certain charities and then set up a 3rd party pick up . Just got my window for this Saturday to come and pick it up to donate to a charity. Can't complain truly

Loving my new nectar by the way.. It's a little firmer than the Casper which is nice, the Casper was FAR too soft and we like softer mattresses. The pillows that come with the Nectar are memory foam and a little flat but they were free The adjustable base was just a little over half the price of the Casper but FAR superior. I did find out that the Nectar adjustable base isn't actually from Nectar but rather a parent company "Classic Brands" I found the same adjustable base on Amazon for about $300 off.. This adjustable base has far more features/functions than the Casper and built better. I plan on test running the base and if I like it, will return it to Nectar and purchase it from Classic Brands directly to save $300 in the near future

Not going to lie, you scared the shit out of me and my wife thought I was crazy when I checked; thanks. The best part of it was explaining that Jefford on AZ was the one that caused me to flip our mattress over due to mold and such. Mid way through explaining this, I turned around and she was walking away

1 month update: we LOVE our Nectar mattress.. It's so ridiculously comfortable. We opted for the adjustable frame to go with it and have it on anti-snore every night. it's a little firmer than the Casper but supports your entire body very well. Plus the 2 free pillows that come with it are PHENOMENAL. I kept getting neck pain when waking up from other pillows but this one takes the cake. They also have a referral program where if you buy via my link, you get a $25 Amazon gift card and so do I !! Plus right now, there's a $125 off discount + 2 free pillows as well: https://www.talkable.com/x/3GOvQo

What did you wind up getting for the king?

I ended up getting another Amerisleep. I went with the AS3 though this time around. The AS2 was a little bit too stiff for my girlfriend. We both love it and have no complaints.

I actually just convinced a friend of mine to get a mattress from there the other week. He just started sleeping on it a few nights ago and is also very impressed.

FYI, Slumberland has some Sealy mattresses on sale. I just picked up a King for $299. Not sure I'd recommend them for your primary mattress because they only have a 1-year warranty. This is for the guest room and might get slept on 1-month/year.

They have King size options at $99, $199 and $299. They all felt fine to me, certainly plenty good for a guest stay over.

I've read so many conflicting things about mattresses, what to look for, how to build alternative ones (natural latex) that it makes my head spin.

I went from being really interested in one of those mattress in a box deals, to looking at Beautyrest, to Tempurpedic (way too expensive), to now considering buying a foam base with a latex topper, wrapped in a zipper cover. Could spend less than $1000, then replace the topper as needed. Plus when I get a dog or a cat and they ruin the topper, or it wears down, I can just buy another one.

Anyone try the buid-your-own route? I'm sure in a month I'll change my mind again, if my back hasn't worn down to the point where its marrow-on-marrow then.

That's the beauty of those 100-365 night trial programs my man!!! Try what you feel like you'd like and if you don't, return it!

We picked up a LUCID gel foam King off Amazon right before Christmas. The old bed was latex foam and cost $1300 ten years ago. We really should’ve dumped it at 7 years, but I figure I paid $130+ a year to own that mattress.

The LUCID cost $270. I figure worst case, I dump it next year if it’s terrible and I’m not out a grand. The difference was drastic and really demonstrated how much the old mattress was sagging.

I got medium firm because we got a firm twin for my daughter and it’s pretty stiff. The medium lets you sink in about 1-2” and then you can feel the support. My middle back pain which caused the switch changed completely in three days. I found that laying in one spot all night creates a depression which will cause me similar pain, but as long as I can move over 12”, the pain is completely gone. (This is really only an issue when both of my kids end up in our bed and I can’t move across the bed. Two adults in a full would probably have similar experience.)

I won’t sell it as perfect, but it’s as good new as our previous one. If it hold up two years, then $270 shipped to your door is a steal.

Edit: it also beats the previous mattress in motion transfer. We usually set what’s effectively a cutting board on the bed to set drinks on, and you can step right next to it without really budging it. You won’t know someone else is sleeping with you.

True. Some vendors require you ship it back, and that sounds like a massive pain in the butt. The ones where you donate, I guess aren't too bad depending on their conditions.

Wow, that's a steal. How cool does it sleep? I'm a furnace and traditional memory foam makes me sweat, but I'm reading that new ones are much better.

I read that for those depressions (at least with latex) if you rotate them every couple weeks or so, the latex will recover.

Nectar and Casper both donate,, FWIW.

And i believe the others say, "we'll come pick it up" type of thing. not expecting you to have to find a way to fit in back in the box.

1stGenCL has it, and I currently have a price alert for it because the King 12" is at $410 right now. If it hits $360 ($340 is average over last 5 yrs) I am buying it...

I'm not sure how to gauge how cool it sleeps. I think they used gel foam to help with that. I can sweat a ton a night, and I can't say the mattress has made me sweat. I have sweat since we got it, but I blame the comforter and Texas for that.

We did rotate our old mattress. I'll give it to 6 months before I make a judgement on how well this one recovers.

I convinced my buddy to grab one (he was going to get a Casper) and after a month, he has no complaints but he probably wouldn't complain

I don't know why I skimmed over the green tea mattress. Classic Costco.

Think I might go with that and a latex topper to increase comfort. I'm mostly a back sleeper but sometimes side.

1stGenCL, did you do any kind of topper or cover for it besides just sheets?

Price just dropped to $359 and I am going to give it a try.

No topper, J?

You probably run AC 24/7 in warmer months but I usually don't. On some summer nights AC seems like overkill until I rely on just the fan and then wake up in a puddle of sweat.

Haven't decided on the 10" or 12" yet, what did you guys end up getting? I'm going to add a sleep on latex 2" topper

Got the 12" (every inch counts amirite?)

Also picked up this topper/cover (it was described in a thorough review, figured it was worth a shot):
