Anyone have a purple mattress? How is it and how does it last? I've read that a lot of these mail order mattresses are awesome for the first few months and then go downhill really fast.

I now have a purple and I've napped on it a couple times. Will start sleeping full time on it tonight, so I can update in a while.

Compared to my 5yr old Tempurpedic, it's really firm. The first time I napped on it, I was really sore getting up. The last time I napped, I had my arm under my pillow and my hand went numb. So far, it seems like all bad news, but I'm hoping what they say is true, that you have to give 30 days or so for your body to adjust to the new mattress.

Other than that, it's f'n heavy. The king size is 140 lbs. The feel is different from any other mattress. You don't sink in like memory foam and you don't even really sink in at all like normal mattresses, Maybe because the top layer collapses in smaller sections? I'll have better info later.

Just ordered a mattress. The cross shopping is a both with all of these name changes across manufacturer lines.

Ended up with a Beautyrest black hybrid, Natasha plush pillow top King. It was pretty much the softest mattress we could find. Dealbeds on Amazon undercut all the competition by 1000. Although I think I got them to honor a mistake on pricing it differently on Amazon.

It's awesome.

I will admit, the first night was murder. My arms kept falling asleep and I woke up so many times. At one point I thought I couldn't do it anymore and was ready to go back to the old bed. But I stuck it out and by the third day, it was great. I think it needed to soften up just a little. I sleep on one side and in the middle and a while ago I slept on the other side (I have a king, so I consider there to be 3 sections of the bed) and it felt a little firmer in that part.

The feeling of the bed never gets old. I find myself running my hands over it and pushing my fingers into it all the time. I don't know it it's the stitching on the cover or the rubber top layer, but it's kind of bumpy. You don't feel it on your body, but it's there.

I've slept on memory foam for quite a while, so the feeling of not sinking in is really nice. You feel like you're floating on the top, but you also can tell some parts of your body are sinking in. I guess it would feel like a high-quality pillow-top.

When I got my Tempurpedic, I wasn't overly impressed, but I assumed it was so popular and highly-rated, it must be good. And I lived with it for many years, using different memory foam toppers on top of it to give different feels. It was never great, though. This bed, after the break-in hell, is something I can be enthusiastic about.

Thanks man. I'm curious to find out how long it lasts before the materials start to degrade as that's my biggest fear with getting one of the online mattresses.

The Purple mattress really interested me. One of the few Youtube ads where I didn't hover over the "skip ad" button, just waiting for the prompt to let me watch my video. I get hot as hell... I use the same down comforter year-round.

But I got a Westin Heavenly a couple of years ago and it's still been the best mattress I've slept on. If I had to get a mattress today, Purple is at the top of the list. They seem like they've got unique construction and materials, unlike the overwhelming majority of the market. Hopefully the mattress holds up, @Anachostic!

This is a handy review website I found for the most popular mattresses out there. Dunno how trustworthy the guy is, but it seems like he keeps it impartial. If anything, it's a good basis for comparison considering it's the same person reviewing everything. He has referral codes sometimes too.

My big issue with mattress review sites is that they review it when new. Anything can be awesome for the first three months and then shit the bed (pun intended) right after that. I want to see how some of these products last in the long run.

Purple mattress is still awesome. I've been debating on doing some sort of test to see if one side of the mattress is softening up. Something like putting 100# on a board and measuring how far it sinks into the mattress at different points.

I did order two purple pillows and the kickstarter said they would ship in Feb. We'll see how they turn out.

I've convinced one co-worker to buy a Purple and two more seem to be in a wait-and-see position on it.

You can tag somebody so it gives them a notification by putting utag in brackets around their name. Forward slash in the second set of brackets, like so: [/utag]

Ok, I've been sleeping on the Purple pillow for a week now.

For me, it's fine. Nothing outstanding. For the GF, it was a game-changer. She had issues with all kinds of pillows and always woke up with major neck pain. She had resorted to sleeping on a folded towel instead of a pillow. The Purple pillow was apparently the perfect height for her. I guess the "give" of the material played a lot into it as well.

I initially thought the pillow wasn't high enough. You get an inflatable booster pad for it, but they highly recommend trying it without, first. So I did. I have no neck pain like I expected. So, neither of us use the boosters.

The material is really floppy, but also very heavy. It's probably just like their seat cushions, but using a triangle grid instead of squares. The kickstarter also included pillowcases using their new bamboo sheet material. It's really, really stretchy and feels really thin. I guess "performance sheets" are the same way.

The pillows are expensive, so I would say if you hate every pillow you've ever had, go for it. If you like your existing pillow, there's probably not a lot of reason to make the purchase.

Maybe chock it up to one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situations. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Finally bit the bullet and bought a new mattress. Mattress Firm was having a big sale and lured me in. The GF and I kept gravitating to the Beauty Rest models, so we found one that we both agree on. Picked one with the higher coil count and memory foam top pad. Gets delivered Thursday, can't wait to sleep on it!

The purple mattress is only online purchase right? Would be nice to try it out or see it before spending $1000.

They may have one showroom somewhere but online is likely your best bet.

they have 110 day free trial, no cost out of pocket if you dont like it. unlike tempurpedic which has restocking fees.

Got my new mattress delivered yesterday, best money I've ever spent. The difference is night and day. Glad that I went for the higher coil count and the memory foam, but not the pillow top. I had trouble getting up this morning because I was so comfy!

And this one refused to get up, she likes the new mattress even more than I do

@thoiboi - updates, AZ demands answers I saw a deal on it and the reviews are great but I'm not trusting Amazon reviews much anymore...

Oh crap.. forgot about this

Honestly for 180 bucks.. I didn't expect much. It was replacing a shitty Ikea Mattress that became far too soft.. So far it's still holding up very well and just medium firmness which is perfect. If you want something super firm, the Zinus probably isn't for you. It was a bit big to fit in our Ikea MALM frame so we've been having some issues with the slats slipping on one end... I'm chocking that up to fine Swedish engineering...

But for a sub-$200 multi-layered foam mattress, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again!

Thank you, wondering if we could get away with sleeping on it every night. I know I shouldn't go on price but I'm worried about spending $250 or something on a king for a daily sleeper, hence the purple curiosity....

Glad you were able to slip it in...

Yearly update?

I just picked up a MALM for WagonJr yesterday and need to get a mattress. Was just figuring I'd hit Sam's Club for whatever, but also like the idea of a giant box just showing up at my house (Lazy Mode Engaged).

Still a recommend from the Boi household?

How hot does it sleep?

My in laws were looking to replace their mattress and I was telling them about the purple mattress and they decide to try it out. It has been over a month and they love it. I laid on it once to see that it felt like and i was impressed. If I was in the market for a mattress I would probably end up with one.

I have recently learned that the sheets you use on a Purple mattress will affect your experience. When I first got mine, I bought some poly-blend sheets. Everything was fine. When my GF got hers, she bought jersey sheets. Again, fine. Later, she got the purple sheets. They are crazy stretchy. I don't like the top sheet, because it's too stretchy, but the mattress is fine.

Then one day, I was washing my poly sheets and put a set of older, high-thread cotton sheets on. The mattress became extremely firm and my back hurt a little bit that night. Switched back to the original poly sheets and the bed has a lot more give to it.

So, if you find the Purple too soft, you can firm it up with some unstretchable sheets. But stretchy is good, and is what they recommend.

You know this might apply to other mattresses too. I just switched from some high thread cotton sheets to a set of jersey sheets and I feel like our mattress is much more comfortable now.

Didn't see this yesterday

Zinus dropped to 180 (Full) on Slickdeals the other day. I'm still impressed for 180 bucks. It's still holding it's firmness fine. The slats thing is still sort of annoying but I think it's more a slat/MALM issue than a mattress issue. Some people recommend liquid nails or maybe putting a spacer along the middle support beam to keep the slats against the two sides.

With a blanket on it sleeps warm, but I always just attribute that to ME just being a warmer sleeper than normal
TL;DR:
Still a recommend!

Although the fiancee and I are upgrading to a Queen bed soon and will probably do a few 100-night test runs of: Casper: Leesa, Purple, etc.. to see which one we like more

Ah, I was going to ask about the slats thing... sounds like the problem is with them shifting laterally? i.e. slipping off the outer rail of the bed?
