Sony: PS3 News and Discussion Thread
Blu-ray DVD player will be less than the cost of the PS3, I believe. Otherwise they will sit on the shelf, and no one will buy them for the simple fact that they could by the PS3 as a DVD player for less.
Think about it....why would Panasonic, Samsung...etc produce a Blu-Ray DVD player that sells for $1,000 or more, only to have Sony undersell them by as much as $500?????? It makes ZERO sense.

But...HD-DVD didnt even make a splash. barely a ripple. And Sony has kept delaying the players and th PS3...I dont think anyone cares anymore, and blu-ray will fail, and only the PS3 will use it for games. Not even the blu-ray aquisition cameras in the professional industry where I belong are making waves...no one cares.
Blu-Ray is just another notch on the belt of Sony's failures.

Calling me out on the fact that I type fast and tend to skip over words doesn't make you any less of an idiot.

...as far as Blu-Ray & HD DVD goes...how many people have HD televisions to justify purchasing HD DVD or Blu-Ray players? Wow many people are interested in repurchasing their DVD collections again?
Blu-Ray may end up like UMD - good for games....nobody is willing to buy the movies.

At the end of last year about 15 million households had HDTV's. At the end of this year is should be about 20 million households out of about 100 million households.

from imdb:
revolutionize my furry ass.
Sony began manufacturing high-definition Blu-ray discs at its plant in Terre Haute, IN Tuesday. In a statement, Dieter Daum, president of Sony Disc and Digital Solutions, said, "Blu-ray is going to revolutionize the way consumers enjoy and interact with high-definition entertainment content." The company said that it expects the first releases on Blu-ray discs to hit the shelves next month. That's also when Sony expects to begin shipping its Blu-ray-equipped VAIO AR Premium laptop computer at an eye-raising price of $3,499. It has said that it expects to ship stand-alone Blu-ray players in July. Samsung said last week that it will be the first to sell a Blu-ray player when it begins shipments on June 25.
These are all major companies guys for all those who think blu ray is gonna flop,More than 20 companies have already announced Blu-ray Disc products, including players, recorders, High-Definition computer drives, recordable media and PC applications, as well as over 100 movie and music titles. Apple has pledged to support both...but will do neither until piracy and encryption is much stronger then currently available.
Fox, Disney, and Warner all support HD-DVD as well
Most of the other companies such as Pioneer signed on with Sony instead of Toshiba/NEC from the very beginning. It doesn't mean you will see shit from them.
HD-DVD had a ton of support...its been a bomb.
Blu-Ray has the future in its wake.
I'll you think UMD is revolutionary and amazing, too.

Fuck, even sony went in with Panasonic to create an entirely new consumer format for digital camcorders...using some lame excuse for not stick with blu-ray...man, that company has faith in itself for sure...
For the moment, early adopters have a very clear choice--what you buy will definitely depend on what you want to do. The HD DVD camp has initially released living-room players and read-only drives to go along with the first HD DVD movies. I've looked at two such players from Toshiba, and I've had a sneak peek at a Toshiba laptop with a read-only drive. Blu-ray supporters have come out with data recorders, which also play Blu-ray HD movies. I also looked at the first Blu-ray PC drive from Pioneer, as well as at a Sony laptop with a built-in burner. Overall, each has device lived up to the hype in many ways!!!

The ideas behind either is great....both are better then SD DVD....neither will be a huge a success.
Neither will stay around long or at all.
Neither are worth the overall monetary investment.

This could possibly be the saddest post in history. I am seriously contemplating a pity ban. :shakehead
You have attempted to pass off the work of someone else as your own in a desperate attempt to make one rational thought in this thread.
And how do I know that you are attempting to do this, because you changed the original we've to I've twice

sarlacc, i see where you are coming from with your job, however, that really shouldn't affect your opinions on the game system. if the format flops, people won't buy that many blu-ray players etc, but it will not really affect the playstation.
and its true what you said about the platform sharing games, but still think about this. The games that are only on PS3 have the ability to use all that space and be much better than what xbox has to offer. and to the games that are on all the consoles, i'm sure sony can work out some deals that upgrade those games. Think about it, if the game manufacturers decide to spend more time and make the ps3 version better, it should equal more sales for them. I'm sure those guys are always fighting to squeeze content onto dvds

I just dont see a game coming out that would be close to 50gb of info...hell not even 25gb of HD-DVD info...I dont think the system themselves could handle it.
