This is a question I wanted answered: How come when Sega had success with the Genesis, why did their Saturn fail as well as the Dreamcast? I thought it was the high price tag on Saturn?

I know Sony won't suffer the same fate, even if they charge $1000 on the PS3 premium, but history won't repeat itself will it?

 

Lack of supports from the 3rd parties was the reason.

Saturn was highly successful in Japan.

 

I think a high price tag (after launch) will hurt them in the long run. If the games are the same between a 360 and a PS3, why would I want to spend another 200 bucks on something that will do the same thing...

Not necessarily. BTW it's Blu-Ray (do your hw ) The visuals as of now are on-par. In addition the war with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is very volatile at this point. People argue Blu-Ray has a lot of movie support, but so does HD-DVD and it all depends on the consumer. Don't get me wrong, all this tech is awesome, but at this point you cannot say what is going to happen.

Its not volatile at all. HD-DVD debuted with a resounding thud. Players with problems not even a luke warm reception...pretty looked over and forgotten actually. I bet most people dont even know its out.

Yes, the larger formats can and may possibly make use of the extra space provided...then again look at how many games will share platforms...cant be that big...not to mention the problems a lot of developers have been having with how sony has ill equipped them to deal with the format. I have two friends who are designers in the video games world, Sony has not been giving the proper tools needed to cultivate games. They made it sony...50x more difficult then it needs to be.

600 bucks is just too much for a system. And whos to say Blu-Ray is even gonna take off. I think sony is shooting themselves in the foot and putting way too much hope into blu-ray....If it doesnt take off you have a machine (ps3) that will be good for games, and nothing else.
