Microsoft: Xbox One News and Discussion Thread
O'rly?!
So you're saying your PS3 died in 2009 and you bought a 360 to replace it.
My original 60gb backwards compatible PS3 eventually died on me as well after 4 years of ownership. The difference being, I put at least 50x hours on the PS3 as I did the 360. Who would blame me, free online play, blu-ray drive, etc.
I've reflowed 12 360 boards and only 2 PS3's. There's a big difference in build quality.. or lack of in regards to the original 360.
I know we have a PS4 thread, but I have nothing to say there.

It's a pretty common issue. I had one that I could only use a 1FT USB to charge. I have purchased 5 controllers. Only the newest doesn't have the issue but it's young. FML

If you open them up, you can tell right away where they cut costs. I used to work as a component engineer. I worked with the same ODM's Sony and MS used for their boards. There is a huge difference.

"play and charge" LOL.
Charge cable ftw, I don't think my battery ever left my 360 controller once.. I just plugged it in everytime it got low on life and the next time I played it was fully charged b/c it charged in the background with the console off.

PS3 doesn't charge when off. I always sat far from my TV so I'd rotate the controllers.
That's the only reason I own one (actually two). I bought the first 360 elite.. then after RROD, 3 fixes and finally board failure, bought the 360.5 gen. I bought the elite because I loved the original XBOX and I still do. It was perfect. The 360 was a failure to me.. very disappointing. If it weren't for certain games, redesign, kinect, black friday deal, I wouldn't have bought another.
The One disappoints in a bigger way. It doesn't really advance itself. There is hardly any innovation and the user experience seems to take a buttfucking before it's even out the gate. Add on the usual nickel and diming..
Does it mean I won't buy it, no.. but I can rant.
In regards to nickel and diming happening everywhere and pay to play.. There's a difference between expected cost of ownership and nickel and diming.

I've never had a problem with my original 360 though. My friend preordered it when it was announced and I bought it from him 5-6 years ago

I'm not too concerned with numbers. The 360 has shit numbers for today's standards and it's been doing quite well IMO.
8GB of RAM is 16x more than the 360.

I have no doubts either console will be much better than the last.
I'm getting both. #yolo
I don't think the differences in specs will matter with this generation. Developers made games that ran on both systems and never spent extra time to make the graphics better on PS3 than the 360. They don't care about that whether a customer buys it for the 360 or the ps3, a sale is a sale. so they're not going to spend extra time and money making a game look a little better on the PS3 when all it does is hurt their bottom line in the end. Get a game working on both system as cheaply as possible and get it to market.
I don't expect that thinking is going to change this time around. Only difference will be with the few 1st party exclusives and we'll see how well those workout.

Played the Xbox One and PS4 today. Both consoles are HUGE. Bigger than current consoles. X1 controller is very much improved and a bit smaller. PS4 is about the same size, but not as terrible to hold in your hand, but still not comfortable enough. Not enough games available to really make a proper comparison.

My question to you is... how were the controllers for the PS4? I'm not too happy with the extra $100 MS is charging, but I will stay with them and just suck it up, pay the extra $$ if Sony's controllers are going to be same or similar to the old ones.
so, pretty soon I need to decide which side I'm picking. I've been loyal to XBox the past 10 years or whenever the 360 came out. I literally was one of the first to get my hands on one from day 1. One of the main reasons why I've stayed with XBox is the controllers (and also the crappy PS3 online experience, but then again, that was awhile ago).

The analog sticks for the PS4 are now more comfortable to use though since they finally decided to go concave and not convex

I'll still dust off my 360 to play with you
