Microsoft: Xbox One News and Discussion Thread
well, I think that was her point... BECAUSE it's out in the boonies, there's never any lines for things like this. BUT actually I HAD a point that I didn't make it obvious enough... What I meant to say was, if anyone really wants a XBox ONE or PS4, it might be worth driving out to those one horse towns. So, what? $20-$40 worth of gas?
Understood.. but just to entertain your last post.. Although my city is the closest "big city" in-state to El Paso, it's a 9 hour drive one-way, and we're not even at opposite ends of the state.
So about $180 in gas.
El Paso is pretty big.. especially considering most of it is on the other side of the border. It doesn't surprise me that they have stock, but I don't think that will be the case for long.
TBH, I haven't checked my local market for stock. Is it OOS where you guys are?

You can take my car to save on gas as long as you pick one up for me too.
9hrs at 60mph = 360 miles x2 = $80 in gas .
You'll have to get creative on how to fit 2 xbones in the trunk though.

Well, I'm impressed.
The console is silent. I heard the fan in my subwoffer running over the Xbox
The Kinect is great! I was never one to use voice commands, even on my phone, but the Kinect is responsive and picks up your voice with ease. I haven't tried the camera yet but from the short preview when setting it up looked promising.
The UI is very fast but a little tricky to get used to. It snaps to the Home screen quickly, can go right back to the game you were playing or launch another app. What we did run into problems with was the party invite system. While trying to play Battlefield there was nothing like "Join Session in Progress" like on the 360 and we couldn't even figure out how to invite each other to join a lobby before jumping into a match.
The "next-gen" graphics really are superb. I was blown away when I put Battlefield 4 in. Forza is also visually stunning but in a different sense. So yes, if you're debating whether the new consoles offer better graphics, there is a difference.
My only complaint is the mandatory install of games upon first play. After inserting BF4, it was about 10 minutes until I could play it, and only then I could play Single Player.
10/10 in my book and I'm anxious to see what Microsoft has in store for this thing.
The 360 went from being a gaming console to an all-in-one entertainment system, I can only imagine what this thing has to become.

Maybe it wasn't a great idea to speak xbox commands into their xbox commercials.
Ha! Xbox One TV ads featuring voice commands are interacting with consoles

Microsoft has trumpeted the voice control capability of the Xbox One as it allows you to interact extensively with the console. With voice commands, you can do many things such as recording a short clip of your gameplay and saving it to the cloud by saying “Xbox, record that”. Another of the rather nifty commands is the ability to turn on your console by saying “Xbox On”.
But it seems there is a bit of a snag with this feature - and a rather amusing one, at that - because when Microsoft airs a commercial that says ‘Xbox On’, the ad is apparently turning on consoles in some consumers' homes.
In the clip above, at about the 55 second mark, the actor says ‘Xbox On’ and in the case of Neowin's lead designer (@Timan25), it turned on his console. Tim also stated that when watching this commercial, his console responded to "Xbox Show my Stuff". We tried to replicate the event using the same clip with one of our editors, but his console did not respond in the same way. But, when he used this clip featuring Ray Lewis, his Xbox One responded to “Xbox Snap TV”; that commercial can be viewed below.
Additionally, there are a few reports on Twitter from users claiming to have experienced the same issue (if you want to call it that), but it’s one of those odd quirks with using voice commands. But it's a quirk that appears to be causing a bit of confusion for some, with numerous reports on Twitter from users complaining that they have no idea why their Xbox One turned on.

While we have had inconsistent results when trying to use the commercial to voice-command our Xbox Ones, these observations do seem to suggest that Microsoft may have to be mindful of the speech it uses in its commercials as it could have the unintended affect of turning on millions of consoles while trying to pitch the product to other consumers.
One of the more odd scenarios that could play out, because of this ‘feature’, is if marketers catch wind of this, they could create clips that could control your console by using the voice controls to search bing and open their specific webpage. Of course, it would be quite sleazy for marketers to do this but, who knows, ethics and marketing has been a gray area for decades.
If you have an Xbox One, try out the commercials noted in this clip and let us know if you have similar results. We should note that the interaction between the commercial and your console does not always work - but at the very least, it is a fun little ‘feature’ to be aware of.

I just checked Amazon this morning and they didn't have any. It looks like they got a shipment in! Now I'm just waiting for my money truck to show up
CLassy02 has a Xbox One and aside from some annoying party issues, he likes it.

I finally got mine for Christmas. I also picked up a new TV stand and had to rewire everything, so I decided to route my FIOS box through the Xbox. I am thoroughly impressed with the way it controls everything. I love the fact that I can say "xbox off" and it turns off my TV and cable box too.
The facial recognition based login is sweet too. I also really like that the One doesn't look like a gaming system; it looks right at home in the cabinet.
Anyone find anything new/cool/annoying with the system yet? I'm still trying to get used to the controller; I kind of like the old one better (especially the shoulder buttons).

Cable box is plugged into xbox one and xbox one is plugged into tv. While watching a football game, just yell out kinect commands to launch/snap anything like skype.
