This got to be the most realistic GT4 pic I have ever seen:

I think this is my first post in this thread.
Been lurking and playing for ages. Mid-40% complete now. And handful of Enduros done. B-Spec driver is up to around 9000.
Finished the GT World Championship last night with my Bentley. No engine upgrades, oil change only. This car might be the best GT car I've ever driven (don't have R8 or F1 yet). You need to make set-up changes at each track but after that I was flying. Easily beating the monsters even with 200 fewer horsies. It's all in the handling. The 5 opponent cars were: Nissan R89 and R92, the Minolta, the Mercedes CLK GTR and the Gillet Vertigo. I did play some of the single races earlier to work on set-up and strategy and saw the Sauber and the 787B in there also but they were not in my race series entry. The Bentley was beating them also.
I did qualify in order to tweak set-up and tires then I handed it off to the B-Spec. I finished first in 7 of 10 races. I did not try to run hard tires and win on strategy. The Nissans/Toyotas are far too fast in those medium/short city races for that. I generally used the same strategy as the AI cars but I would pit a little earlier. The exception to this was limping around LeMans in the last race in 3rd place (dead tires - used setting #1 and 2 to keep on the track). The top two cars (Minolta and one of the Nissans) spun at the last set of chicanes and I passed them with no pit stops. The other 3 cars in the race pitted. The Minolta finished 2nd in the series followed by the 2 Nissans and the Mercedes and the Gillet.
BTW I used the '04 Courage to win the Bentley. It was similarly fast. I did use an engine upgrade to bring it up to par with the Sauber that was in my Enduro. It didn't need it. Won by 20+ laps.
I would really like to run some tests with all the LeMans prototype cars of the last 5 years to compare. The late 90's horsepower beasts are fun but I don't think they can keep up in handling and how gentle they are on their tires. I think the ultimate race would be the R8 v Bentley v two Courages. Any other prototypes out there that might compare?

Your the first person to say they like the Bentley. I personally haven't tried it yet though so I can't comment on it. When you get the F1 you might change your tune. It's speed isn't as great as the Sauber but it handles very well and handles tire wear well. It's also maintenance free so no changing tires, oil, wash, etc. However the control is not as good as the Sauber and the R8 according to Srika. What is a Courage? I don't know that car. Also there's a Peuguot that I mentioned a few posts back that doesn't wear tires for anything. You also might want to try the Mazda 787B. It handles very very well and has great acceleration.
Clarify: When I said F1 I meant the Formula One car not the McLaren. The F1 car I have read is far different than GT3. In GT3 it was a bit silly in it's arcade-ness. Slam on max wing and just turn everywhere. When you say its speed isn't as great as the Sauber you mean straight line grunt? I would expect that - there's nothing faster than a closed cockpit LeMans prototype in a straight line. Conrol not as good? That would be a surprise.
As for the other P1 prototypes - I kind of discount all these turbo monsters from the late 80s-90s (Sauber, Minolta, Nissans, 787B) because I don't think they can compete in any area except pure grunt. I've driven most of the older ones here in GT4 and of course in GT3. Yes the current crop of LeMans prototypes run less horsepower but they are FAR more advanced than their forerunners in weight/chassis/aero. The Courage is a P2 class car made by a shop in France (his name is Courage) and races in LeMans every year - GT4 calls them Pescarolo but the chassis is indeed a Courage. Other teams run them also as privateers. They use a variety of different powerplants. They just finished a new version C65 (C60 is the one in GT4) and will race it this year at LeMans and in the ALMS (Mazda power). It's a darn quick little car. Click here.

Ohhh the Pescarolo's. I wonder how the Chapparials are? They look like a washing machine on wheels.
Yeah when I say the F1, I mean the Formula 1 Gran Turismo car from Polyphony. Not the McLaren one. Yeah I meant straight line grunt. As far as control I meant the car's attitude. Like maintaining a straight line at 200+mph.

and yes it's much different than it was in GT3 - that was complete arcade-racing with the F1.

LeMans configurations being the exception, of course. I'd be willing to bet that (tires being equal) a Jaguar XJR-14 or a Peugeot 905 Evo could keep pace in the corners with most modern prototypes since they have their downforce-producing aero strictly regulated.

That's an interesting take Billiam. It's an impossible comparison really. I will say this though - the aero efficiency of the new cars is so much better then even the early 90s. It's not a matter of downforce as much as downforce/drag. I would bet the new cars have just as much if not more downforce but they are so much faster on the straights (even with so much less power) because they have so little drag. Even the open cockpit cars (Audi, Lolas and Courage) are way faster now then back then. We'll never know for sure since they added the chicanes on the straight. The hypothetical comparison is fun though - and I know from your posts your knowledge of "vintage" sports car exceeds mine. The unsaid X-Factor in all this is the relaibility and repair factor - which is not part of GT4. The Bentley was so dominant in 2003, but was it that much faster than it's sister the R8 or was it easier to repair?
I love this stuff. I guess I need to go get my F1 and do some work myself.
Srika: I still can't believe you use the DS2...

yep.. I think you just pushed me over the edge. Good job, Kighter.
and - good posts.
mc_yanzo: I think I used the Z race car. Hard tires and it should win easy. Even a heavily modded non-race car can win it easily (NSX-R for example).
Srika: I have the old blue Driving Force (not the pro). Personally I cannot imagine having to drive a LeMans prototype or F1 car with a 900 degree steering wheel. Supposedly you can disable it in GT4 (it defaults to 900 degree). I have read a number of bad posts on GTPlanet about it. Take that with a grain of salt I guess. I'm dying to try a DFP out and see if the Force Feedback is any better than my old worn out wheel - I might even pop for another one...

Yeah that Z will win easy. The Minolta is great cash even if you don't use it a lot.
Srika - I didn't put it in my post but I think 900 degree would be fun as hell for street cars. Imagine how hard the Driving Missions would be with 2.5 turns on the wheel on some of those pokey cars.

Took the m3 GTR out for a spin....omg, i love that car. I talked some shit about it earlier but I'm really fond of it now.

Yeah it's an awesome handling car. Don't put a Stage 4 in it though because it screws up the specs. Actually, that can be said for most of the cars. Although high hp is nice, only use it for straightaway tracks.
I started the Formula GT because I want to see if the Sauber is worth the hype. So I did the R246 on BSpec and Motegi Speedway on ASpec. Yes 127 laps.
I tried BSpec but the dumbass driver pits too soon. I was up 3 laps on the computer without touching walls. I totally figured it out.
I was able to do this because I didn't have to pit as much and my times were consistent until even the pit lap.
Only 8 more races.

Yeah that NY one is a bitch. SOOO slow and if you put one foot wrong you're toast - might as well start over.
I have a story about that mission too:
I did alot of the missions early on before I did many of the races and I hadn't seen much of the NY track yet. So I went and bought the Honda and went and ran some practice laps. I got the rhythm down pretty well. I went back to the mission. The car felt COMPLETELY different. I dunno what the set-up is on the car on the mission but it is NOT stock and I don't know how you can find out what it is...
Makes those missions especially hard.

Just go to the classic cars or Toyota. It's a Toyota 2000GT. It's actually a classic and very expensive car. Beautiful too. The good thing about the car being slow though is it's easier to analyze your turns and gearing. The faster ones are harder to break down because of the rate of speed you do the turns at. I had a lot harder time with Laguna Seca than I did with NY.

I think I would have to turn off 900-degree mode for some of the cars... for some applications and cars I think it would make it more fun... but for some,
