oh yea..... in regard to the other thread, I agree about the 24hr races........ it's lame that the time of day doesn't change during the race... I guess they pushed the PS2 so far, in terms of the other things such as the cars, physics model, and the track/scenery, that when it came to such seemingly trivial details such as night falling during a 24 hour race, they were not in the picture...

Honestly though just going by the level of detail given to everything else in the game, I am quite sure it is due to hardware limitations that they didn't put a dynamic change of daytime into the game for the 24hr races... it would have just been too much for the PS2 to handle...

Yep, PD has pushed it to the limit. People are complaining too much about lack of daylight changes, online play and car damage etc. things. I think PD will have the answers to all of these issues in GT5.

Well, out of all 3 problems I listed above, lack of daylight changes bugged me the most.

Ok, I have one big grip about this game. WTF is up with some of the pityful prize cars? No joke, I played the hatchback series in the european races and the prize car was an 88' volvo wagon.

What the hell am I going to do with an 88' volvo wagon?

GT4 has great prize cars and honestly I felt some of them were much too easy to win. You're playing the wrong races. I haven't even done that Euro hatchback race yet lol. And, don't mock that Volvo station wagon, that was one of the classic Euro modes of transportation back in the day, it is surely a prize in anyone's garage.

btw I heard if you slap some slicks on that wagon and mod it to hell, it'll wreak some havoc at the 'Ring.

btw right now I'm on a quest to run a perfect hard lap at the Ring with the Supra RZ. Perfect meaning never going on the grass at all. It is owning me so far but I think I'll get there.

Well I'm proud to say that I got to 25% with just buying one car and not transferring any funds/licenses over. So I did El Capitan as promised but only 20 laps on A-Spec as it was like 3am and I wanted to go to bed. The first race I did with the Minolta was race the Bentley 8 in the Special Cond. WET Tsukuba and quickly got owned. WTF!!! After messing with the POS ASM I was able to make it decent. But then I tried the 227 laps Endurance and this thing eats tires. It's performance isn't really as good as I thought it would be.

you need to use "Racing: Hard" tires on the Minolta to be effective in the endurance races. did you try that?

oh yea btw... from my own opinion, using Racing Hard tires is kinda annoying. If, you are driving it yourself (i.e. not Bspec) - the tires don't have much grip and you have to go considerably slower than if using SuperSoft. But in Bspec mode, they are fine, the Bspec driver does fine with em.

I agree with you, when I first got the Minolta I was like but after a few days I realize the thing is kinda hard to drive - I don't drive it anymore. However people have got insane times with it at the Ring for instance (I have seen sub 5 minute times ) - so I think it's a good car, just needs some serious tuning... that would be my guess because otherwise I don't understand the insane times in that car. Esp with the turbo upgrade, it's just too stinkin' fast for the Ring, and power is nothing without control.

Minolta is perfect when you put R3 in the front and R1 in the rear.

Finished dead last. It's official. I hate this car.

Actually after further review I was racing the GT1 Race Car and other fast mofos. Probably out of my class.

If I don't use the Formula Gran Turismo, I like using the Audi R8. I usually use R soft on the front and R medium on the rear. With about 1180 hp on tap, light weight, and good handling and brakes, this sucker is great for going up against the other elites that have won Le Mans. I just have 1 last endurance race remaining (the last one on the list...2nd time around), and it gives me the Bentley Speed 8. It too won Le Mans. I'm at 45.5% complete now. All I have left in the extreme events is the Formula GT series (which each race is as long as a normal F1 race...as in over 60 laps rather than the 15-20 on GT3) and the Polyphony Digital cup. Then I have loads of driving missions ahead of me...those suck ass.

so yeah.. I just finished both Diahatsu one-make races. I figured, get em over with. Didn't take too long, I bought the required cars and added the power mods and supersoft tires only, and Bspec'ed them with ease. I was just like, ok glad to get that over with.

yeah, so I had been trying to pick up my Bspec pts, after being stuck at ~5100 for like, a long time. I had them up to 5300 with a few other races this weekend. I do these two (seemingly) dinky Diahatsu races, and suddenly my Bspec pts are at 6028.

I just finished the Opel speedster manufacturer event. tough races. my damn B-spec driver could win or even place higher than third on most of the races. So I had to race 'em myself. Hard, but worth the a-spec points. I really had to do some suspension changes to win infineon and suzuka. B-spec makes me lazy. I have a love/hate thing for the B-spec function

You know, at first I thought the photo mode was retarded and I said to myself, I'd never use it. but it really kicks ass! I am a professional photographer(sometimes for Sony Tokyo) and I really like the layout! Its like a whole other game.

Bspec report, 4:30am Sunday morning (wtf?! - oh yeah - no work til Wednesday ):

Well I got up to 6500 pts in Bspec. At or around 6300 pts, I noticed something. My Bspec driver started to pwn. And I mean with a car that was "lightly" modded. first of all, he (or she, it might be a girl, you never know lol) started to pass with authority - instead of staying stuck behind a car for maybe half a lap or more, he would pass almost asap. He will still ram from the back, that might just be an AI thing.

Anyways, upping the Bspec pts is highly recommended. Also, I'm at 58% complete, just from doing a lot of the manufacturer races. Yesterday, I was at 50.4% (where I stayed for some 2 weeks - I didn't do much more than play the Supra RZ @ the Ring for that time... and also I took a short break of a few days off from GT4).

/end

One question, in B-spec, on the distance gap indicator at the bottom of the race monitor screen, what is that orange and yellow arrow/triangle that pops up over the car icon every now and then?

And I mostly shoot weddings. nothing online yet, just pictures of my daughter

Not sure what the arrows mean..... I had been wondering that myself at times... I am looking around on GTplanet... it seems like its an indication that a car is gaining ground... but I have no idea how that would help in any way.

I have decided its time to start the F1 champhionship. And, in the first race, my Bspec driver is pwning. 41 laps into it, he has passed the 6th place car. That to me is some pwnage in this series, since all the cars are equal. The cars pitstop about every 11 laps or so. The last time I tried this (had under 5000 pts) - I think I either quit the race or just lost outright... yeah I definitely recommend you get at least 6500-7000 Bspec pts before attempting the F1 series. It will be interesting to see how many Bspec pts I get from this race...

When I did the race I was at 4990. I'm at 5000+ now after doing a few events. I notice you don't gain B-Spec points while doing repeat races. I was doing the DTM races for the CLK-GTR and I stopped gaining B-spec pts while I get $.

I did the test run on the Motegi oval where you can do the "Family Cup" which is just a 2 lap run against some badass riders: Sauber C9, Audi R8, etc. And the Mintolta with Stage 4 Turbo totally KILLLLLLED them. I mean if I had 5 laps I would have lapped the 2nd place driver. I think with them bigass wheels in the back for outmatched endurance races it's screwed. But a quick sprint run or cars it'll totally own it's good. However the only races I haven't done yet I have to get a production car or start buying one-make cars. I think I'm going to save for the big dog cars on Day 694 and do some enduros on the weekends. Maybe if I get bored I'll do a few Missions.

Hey guys,

So I just got GT4 on Saturday. Yeah I know, what have I been waiting for?

Anyways, I'm a GT noob and don't have any points/credits from GT3 to transfer. So, my question is, what car should I start out with, and what races should I begin first? Do I have to start with the licenses right away?

And yeah, I know I should do a search, but come on, this thread is 100+ pages!

Thanks in advance.

The arrows indicate when another car is making a quick gap-closing on the car ahead of him.

Once you get to 7000 B-Spec points, your driver kicks ass. You're safe to take the Formula GT to it's competition after that.

mc_yanzo,
I did the same as you even though I had stuff to transfer. I would recommend doing the first couple of licenses first to get the feel of the game and I think with one of them you win the Pontiac Sunfire GXP. Plus you'll get owned quick if this is your first GT since everyone I know who first played (saw 4 this weekend) will spin out on a straightaway. I used that car to win the Sunday cup a few times to save up to buy a used 99 Skyline GTR VSpec for about $25k.

I prefer RWD or AWD and the only car you can get that for price is an old Silvia/240 or EVO. The Silvia was a choice but you have to juice it up and with Sunday Cup money it'll take a while so I bought something quick out the box.

What's it mean in B-Spec when there's like a pic of a car in the section where the P is when a driver or competitor pits. It's the same column but it looks like the sign for Slippery When Wet.
