if its your first B-spec race, you really should be using a car that is much faster than the rest of the field, and then babysit until you get into 1st place. After that, set your pace to 3 and babysit some more, you should notice your car pulling away from the field, even at 3. If you're just starting out 4 and 5 will be too much, your car will be prone to wiping out. You should get big enough a lead so when the car pits, you'll still be in the lead. Also, make sure you have like medium race tires - but you may have to adjust according to what car you are using, and also according to what the other cars are - when I first started Bspec mode, I would notice the AI cars are not pitting when my car needed to pit, they would last a few laps longer - I had to adjust the tires accordingly. After you rack up some Bspec pts, you won't have to babysit as much, if at all.

Well, I took my beloved 787B out and I am pleased to report it lives up to my expectations, for the most part. Right out of the box, it handles arguably BETTER than the F1 car - which is kind of insane really - and all truth be told, it shouldn't feel that good - either it handles TOO well, or the F1 car doesn't handle as well as it should - but anyway. After a few trial laps at Suzuka, the Ring was calling, so I answered.

Ran a 5:57 on my first lap out, with 3 serious wipeouts and a few other incidents. Unfortunately, this car is VERY twitchy at the limit and so it's very difficult to drive - with the PS2 controller, at least - I feel like it would be "easier" to drive with a wheel. The Nissan R92CP, by comparison, is much more stable at speed (I am talking 200+ mph, hitting a top speed of ~240 mph on the long straight at the end.) And keep in mind I haven't done anything to the 787B, aside from an oil change. It has 800hp or so - the R92CP has like 988hp I believe. I am going to try to adjust some of the settings to try to get the 787 to not be so twitchy... but I dunno how much better I can make it. But nonetheless, I am pleased with it, it has the killer sound, and the handling is just insane. This car will break all the records on smaller tracks where it doesn't hit 200+ mph. If it hits 200+ mph, then driving becomes quite risky.

You can set the race speed to 3x acceleration by pressing R1 to go into the standings view, and then holding L1 and pressing right on the D-pad twice. But, this setting only stays in effect until the next pitstop - after that, it goes back to 1x and you have to set the accelerated speed again. If you are blowing away the rest of the field, set the pace to 3, set overtake to off, and go to bed. When you wake up, you should have won the race, unless your driver royally messes up (which happened to me once).

I wouldn't turn off overtake. If you're blowing everyone away you'll be lapping them, and with overtake off, you will never pass you'll just get stuck behind a slow car. Always leave overtake on.

If you are lapping cars, it won't matter what you have overtake set at. Your car will overtake other cars, even without overtake on. The reason I advised he turn it off is because he is just starting out in Bspec mode - with overtake on, your driver drives riskier and may wipe out - all he wants to do is win the race - turning overtake off and setting pace to 3 will basically ensure a victory in the morning.

After he amasses more Bspec pts, he can leave overtake on. Of course, the GT4 experience is different for everyone - he may like to leave overtake on all the time, no matter what - I think some personal preference comes into play here too, and of course, there is nothing wrong with that.

yes - remember, after the pitstop, it's back to normal speed (if you had time acceleration on).

I have yet to try out the 24 hr races @ the Ring in B-Spec mode. I wonder what car suits my lamb AI driver the best other than the Minolta C88V?

I used the Minolta but I could have got by with something slower. Much slower. The Minolta was ahead of 2nd by like 3-4 laps at the end of the race, I have a screenshot somewhere to be sure. But you just don't wanna go through the whole race and somehow lose, you know. That would have sucked. So if you're gonna B-spec it, just use the Minolta.

Hit 50% - the Jag XJR-9 race car is quite bad ass. Very stable (unlike the 787B) and handles great. Ran 5:41 @ the Ring my first lap out, it was hardly a clean lap. I think it can do low 5:30's with killer driving, 5:20's with a flawless perfect lap at 11/10ths... oh yeah, this is 100% stock, just supersoft tires, haven't added the turbo upgrade....

I've come to the realization that B-spec mode is necessary to have a (somewhat) normal life.

Yeah a lot of my weekend posts were on B-Spec.

2 questions:

I'm only at like 6% and I have the Z Concept LM car which I must say is very badass due to it's balance of power and handling. Did you guys use this car for a while or did something else better come up quick? I got the Option Stream Z but too much damn lag makes it suck for some races.

Leading to my other question. The Concept Z is still stock except for sport tires (race req.). Should I upgrade to the super expensive turbo or will lag will kill it like the Option Z?

hehe... you're at where I was a few weeks ago...

Kept the Z LM mostly stock, except for tires... I think that's all I really needed to win against the weaker competition...

... and by weaker I mean...

Nissan Z-only racing championships... pwned by Z LM
Any RWD competition... pwned by Z LM
I didn't want to spend the money to get another car for Professional Circuit for some of the races... pwned by Z LM
Japanese GT circuit... pwned by Z LM

hehe... if all else failed, I just finished the race, went to get my Z LM and came back to smoke ems...

Probably boosting the 400R like crazy Junkster. I had just gotten my R34 where I wanted it and Santa came early with the Z. Thanks for the tip on the rally Srika. And yes I'm crawling in this game. I am midway on IA license so little by little I'm getting to where I want to be.

I think for rally you just need dirt tires and license right.

oh right.. the license, forgot about that. .. . don't need dirt tires, you can run full race tires since its on tarmac. Same applies for the George V Paris rally. Run your best LM car, lol.

I just nail whatever I can just in case I win something that'll be more specialized for another race. I don't have to buy a 60's car because I already have a Skyline 2000.

- I don't think its good to follow any kind of "order" of races or anything... I just do what I feel like doing at any given moment... keeps the game interesting. If I tried going straight through like one series, of one Events hall or whatever, I think I might end up getting frustrated... Need change.

Naw, but just caught clearing specific areas one at a time...

For instance...

I needed a MR car to clear the beginner races... so I got the Lotus Elise. After I cleared the beginner MR, I took the Lotus to the Lotus Elise-specific races. With that out of the way (lots o' cash from that, BTW), went to European races and took down British GT.

That's how it's been going for me... I'm still lurking to see what else I can knock out with the Z LM as well.

I'm one of those order-oriented peeps

I need to knock down certain things that catch my eye...

Which is why I still haven't tried the special conditions races.

Yeah I used to all Arcade mode first to get the feel of the game and unlock all the tracks. Then I'd do all the licenses in a row. Then I'd do the game. Probably why I only got near 100% in part 1.
