Not fixed yet. They have to get all the parts, but there was a charge pressure problem going into the turbos. Replacing both pressure converter valves, new vacuum lines, and new reservoirs as part of the charge air pressure system.
Also replacing the battery; it's almost four years old and is starting to hold a charge as well (according to the diagnostic computer). In Arizona, a battery that lasts more than two years is a miracle battery.
Anyway, the car just surpassed 95k miles and this is the first significant repair I've had to pay for. I really can't complain too much.

One, to put the price in perspective, it's at a dealership. I was convinced it was a high pressure fuel pump, which is still covered under a warranty out to 120k. I was wrong. Anyway, this will set me back $1,900. Additional perspective, last year we had a $1,600 repair to my wife's 2003 Honda Pilot (120k miles at the time). Cars are increasingly complex machines. These types of things will get expensive.
As to your question on whether I would part with it - I highly doubt it. The economics still don't make any sense. The cash for a necessary down payment alone would be far in excess of the repairs at this point and for the foreseeable future.
Every time I searched for the V...I couldn't help but stop and stare pretty longingly at the M3 Hard Top Convertibles in a manual transmission that were within range too.

Dude, even Japanese is pricey. My warranty on the FX is out and looking at certain replacements and etc....yeah, that's a few robots.

Shouldn't be afraid to come to the dark side as long as you're well prepared. I've had a 2010 E350 4Matic for the past 3 years and have only had 1 issue that was only diagnosed because I was in for service. It was a leak in the transfer case, which was about $300 in parts and $1800 in labor at the MB dealer. That being said, when I purchased the car I purchased a third party warranty so all I paid was the $100 deductible.
Up to this point I have had $3k in warranty payouts and only paid $2800 for the warranty in it's entirety. Covers everything inside and out minus wear items and I still have 3 more years and 50k more miles. Most of all it gives me a piece of mind. Keep up with service intervals and you'll be good to go.
Maybe next time i'll grab an E60 M5 and make sure it's covered :wink:

If you structure it right, the value is pretty incredible; in my case 75k miles over a 6 year period is pretty great considering I can go and have it repaired at the dealer every single time. If I ever sell this thing, the service history will go a long way into my resale. You can also structure a shorter warranty span that works for you financially and for the car.
Make a trip to Carmax, they have a similar warranty setup as the one I got on every car in stock. If you just want to get into an older M3/3 Series or something over a span of a year or two it would be a great place to start. In the end you have to assess how much the piece of mind and overall experience are worth to you as an individual. I'm pretty anti-lease, but also a decent place to start.
As for VANOS, HPFP failures and the likes, i'm sure Tim's more familiar with. But as with any car, service history is key. 996's have their IMS bearing issues, and the list goes on. Like I said in the previous post, being prepared before you pull the trigger is key, whether that's with a warranty or just simply knowing what common issues you can attack with your own DIY skills. Either way, plan it out, make the jump, don't look back.
Well, CPO warranty ended 4 weeks ago and just got my first sizable repair bill. Oh well.
After 95K miles, you are lucky (CPO coverage must better than in Canada).
I am at $8233 after 85K miles (in its 8th year, $4K this year) for expenses that would have been covered by BMW's program. I am kicking myself for not having ditched the car last year.
Yeah, all these cars get more complicated and $ to maintain, even the not-little-Hondas, but BMW has its way to make it worse. So many nonsense interventions such as engine leaks, two Steptronic repairs should have not happened under warranty.
BTW, if not done and you intend to keep the car, you better throw the money on a preventive water/thermostat replacement. That was 1400$ of the 8233$ above. Or you can wait if you have the tools to monitor the car; I did only when the car started to throw away some water pump related BMW codes.

Got the car back yesterday. Reloaded my tune software last night. They knocked a couple of hundred bucks of the charges as well. After a few days of driving around in a stripped out 320, I'm very happy to have my car back.

i think you forgot about something.
It should be the Cash for down payment + the enjoyment of a new car vs. Repair bills + the inconvenience and hassle

really the repair bill is not that bad.
I probably have spent over $1000 in the past 2-3 months on my Accord just in maintenance. The car is not even broken and the car is probably only worth $5 - $6k at most.
While i do not like the feeling of paying car payment every month, i think i hate the feeling of something that is an endless $$ pit a lot more.

I can relate to this drama... I am driving my 09 TL until i can replace it with a true mid life crisis mobile... I will hit 100k in the next month, do the timing belt and drive it to 150k for another couple years. I with then purchase a completely irresponsible sedan, or if i end up in a house with a 3 car garage will purchase an even more irresponsible 2 seater that serves no practical purpose other than my childish amusement.
