Shoof - does the Soul come with a human-size-hip-hop-hamster to drive me around? If so, I might consider the deal.

No. Honestly, with the medical expenses for my kids' treatments I'm fortunate if I can do one mid-level expense mod per year. The only reason I was able to do the brakes the way I did was because I needed a brake job anyway.
Slow, indeed. Slower than tree sap stuck in the intestines of a petrified carcass of a mastodon buried under 300 feet of Arctic ice for the last 20,000 years.

Like I asked before to ttribe or anyone who owns the BMW 335i: How do you live with yourself driving such a slow, slow SLOWWWWWWW car?

Yes. Really, I don't have a choice. There are no dollars left for a down payment on anything else after trying to pay medical bills. Previously, we planned to replace my wife's 2003 Pilot before all this hit. Instead, she's still tooling around in a 13 year old SUV with 130k miles on it. I suspect I'll be doing the same for a while with my car. There just isn't a better financial path to take given the current circumstances.

On the other hand, if you guys could hurry up with the Fort-Knox heist, I would really appreciate it...my share of the "proceeds" would be very helpful.

Maybe if you didn't drive such a slow car, you'd be able to get to where we are digging and help?!?!?
Gosh.
Last time, we ended up by accident in some 's cell in Meheeko...he said "thanks, Amigo" and bolted. Should call him El Cheapo. Didn't even give us a reward for springing him.

do you any warranty left? because last thing you want is the car to hit you with an unexpected repair bills.
With a 13 years old SUV and a 7 years old BMW, it could hit you hard and fast....and they always happen at the worst time too.

If something big breaks, it will go on to the credit card with a bunch of medical bills I've had to pay that way (never carried a balance on my cc before this turn of events). I'm of the opinion, at this point, that the cc is for such emergencies, but I can't justify "borrowing" for the down payment right now.

So...in general (and speaking generally), aren't 3ers pretty iron-clad and reliable? I hear more often about Ms breaking down but generally, don't hear so much about 3-Series running into mechanical problems as they age.

335s of my vintage are known for having high-pressure fuel pump issues (BMW had a recall on this and has gone through several revisions on the pump itself), the occasional turbo failure and a fair amount of gunk buildup on valve intakes because of the way the direct-injection system was designed.

I'm guessing the turbo failure is the most $$$ of the possible problems that may creep up?

No warranty left. Believe me, I know the risks right now. I just don't see any way around the current circumstance.

if it really comes down to it, sell both your 335 and the SUV and buy 2 used reliable/economy cars for the time being.
The added bonus is the reliable economy car is probably faster than your 335 anyways.

But 1 thing for sure tho, i have owned so many Japanese cars, there are definintely less rattles in German cars.. i have 0! Never had a car with 0 rattles and i already have 11k miles on this F36.
F30 didn't have rattle either but i had unacceptable wind noise on the fwy because of the mirror design.

Different Gen of 335s have different type of Limp mode...
E9X was because of pumps.. oil pump, water pump, breast pump.
F3X was because the aux fan is just too sensitive. Out of the blue it will just think the car is overheating when it is not. Easy fix = turn the car off and turn it back on and it will be normal.

based on my observation, F3X are more reliable but who knows... with BMW or any German cars, you take your chances.

They do say, you haven't sat in luxury car until you've been in European luxury car. The one area where the Japanese are probably better are the touchscreen/navigation/GUI stuff...I won't confess to knowing BMW's latest iDrive well but the ones I've tried out in prior years seemed to be designed by morons.

The term "limp mode" refers to a built-in computer algorithm designed to protect the engine from damage in the event of some failure. When I first bought my car, the HPFP started to go a couple of months later; the car went into limp mode while driving it one morning when the pump was getting close to complete failure.
On another occasion, my charge pipe broke while accelerating. The car immediately went in to limp mode to get the RPMs down and prevent damage from the sudden loss of pressure. Limp mode allowed me to gently drive the car 10 miles to the nearest dealership for repairs without any concern for harming the engine.
As oono mentioned, the E9x and F3x have some unique and notable triggers for limp modem but rest assured, limp mode is a very good thing.
