Oh wait...no, not quite...the BIGGER thing is that you'll get to be in a FASTER car as a rental.

Ouch, did he back into you? Looks like a hitch shaped cut in the bumper.
Yumchacha has a good point, you'll get spoiled with the speed/power of your rental/loaner

I saw your thread and I thought oh nice some updates, and then came in and saw this. So sorry to see this! That is a huge disappointment. I hope everything can be fixed back to normal without any hassles.

Hopefully nothing inside the trunk is damaged.

On a related note, are your taillights damaged or can they potentially be damaged? I mean since the bodyshop would need to replace the tails anyways, might as well get the LCI ones?

Dude - total suckage. So sorry you have to deal with this PITA situation. Glad you're ok. Hope the repair process goes smoothly. It's Arizona, so I have to ask, did the other driver have insurance?

Thanks.

Yes, he had insurance. We submitted a claim via telephone from the parking lot. However, his is bottom-of-the-barrel insurance (ACCC), so I'm thinking I may submit a claim to my own insurance (State Farm) and let them subrogate against his insurance. I don't want to get treated poorly by his insurance company because I'm not their insured.

Good thinking, T. Ironically I was just outside debadging my rear trunk lid before coming inside and seeing your post. BTW haven't been out to AZ in well over a year. The "new" office in Kansas is quite the downgrade.

Sorry that this was the update TT. It could have been worse, like people said. But this still sucks.

What kind of rental do you have for the time being?

No rental yet. The car's totally drive-able and that's what I'm doing until it goes to the shop.

Now, ask me if I'm constantly thinking that everyone around me on the road thinks I'm a complete loser for driving around with the back end of my car smashed up...

We have all seen people drive around with black trash bag covering their window or taillight that is covered by faded red tape. I have seen someone made an entire front fender out of foil for his Audi A6 (at Walmart)
Don't feel bad, yours is still a BMW.... a slow one but a BMW nevertheless. Just don't try to cover things up with foil, then you are good.

Looks like ~$5k and 2+ weeks. I'm not taking it in until the 23rd of this month, though. The annual Alpine Devil's Highway run I do each year with the BMWCCA is on the 19th-21st of this month and they couldn't guarantee it would be finished by then, so I'm waiting until after the trip. It'll look a little ghetto for a few weeks, but it's better than missing this trip.

Ah okay. It's probably a bummer you're participating in the event with that eyesore on your car.

No doubt it's a bummer. But, it's either that or run the risk of not being able to go and with everything going on in my life right now, I need this trip...badly.

Hope everything is manageable. Cuz, that's life in a nutshell: going through the paces needed to take on each hurdle/pothole. I'm sure this trip will be awesome...bum rear or not.

Hey .. I would look at the positive side of things with this incident.

Hole in rear bumper = less drag coefficient.

Hope all is well T! Hope your back / neck isn't hurting too bad ...

Not particularly manageable, but just trying to get through each day.

It will be fun even with all the holes in the back.

Just make sure they only take pictures from the front.

Uhhhh, estimate to repair just jumped from ~$5k, to just North of $10k. I'm not sure there's any way I get out of this without the insurance company declaring the car a total loss. I'm really not happy.
