Art Basel was pretty cool, went on Saturday. Great to see all these different people from all walks of life enjoying modern art. Wonderful event.

, it would be neat to see how a 2.5l triple inline would ride. I was looking up the specs, and compared to my VF500F it has 5x the displacement, ~5x the torque, ~1/2 heavier. About the closet thing is fuel capacity, 4.4 and 4.8 gallons so they're close there.

Yeah, I've read/seen that they're impressive in a straight line, can't imagine they're corner carvers.
Thought the base has mid controls & the GT has more forward.
They definitely balance surprisingly well, stationary, for their weight/size.

^ A friend of mine and his racing partner owned two GT350 racecars (1965 and 1966, but not one of the original ~22), but were real Shelby's that were converted. They campaigned them for about a decade, both are now sold. They also raced a 1970 Bud Moore Mustang TransAm car. Again a conversion not a original. I'll have to lookup some pics of them and post them.

@Doom878 No sure if I've mentioned this place before but great tacos ($3) and drinks ($5) during Happy Hour 5-7PM every day. Near west end of Lincoln road, highly recommended

I have to upload a video of when I was behind Niki Lauda's 312T Ferrari F1 car being fired up and rev'ing at the Amelia Concours from a few years ago, the flat 12 exhaust note with it's four exhaust pipes is music to those of us.

Niki is one of those racers that sorted out the Ferrari as Schumacher also did, both decades after Ferrari not being competitive. Niki: "this car drives like s**t". Ferrari tech: "you can't say that, it is a Ferrari". Both mentioned by Niki in an interview and in Rush. Niki was a no-nonsense guy and told it as it is. Some drivers are just racers, other drivers are racers and can sort out cars.
I first saw Niki in person at the Canadian GP in 1974 where he lead most of the race before spinning out at Moss Corner. Fittipaldi who was right behind Niki took the lead and won. The pits were open back then and I grabbed the rear wheel of a F1 car and it weighed nothing; today it would even be lighter.

I saw Lauda a decade later at the Detroit Grand Prix garages (basement of Cobo Hall). Lauda, Prost, and Dennis were intently looking at this little 2" wide paper printout of some sort data after their qualifying. Went to the Detroit GP from 1983-88, first three years Lauda was racing for McLaren, he always looked serious in the garages, the scars from his burns looked worst in person than in photo's. Can't find the 312T startup but here's a couple nice engines revving up at Amelia, American V8 muscle and German V12 techonic.

Porsches and Turbos go together from the 1970s onwards, yet I chose a 3.8L 991.1 non-turbo over the 3.0L 991.2 turbo in late 2018 when the latter model was out over two years. Absolutely no regrets as I have been on the track with the latest 992 (turbo).
From my 2015 visit to the Porsche factory...

That might have been the case as I am sure both books were written shortly thereafter, over 30 years ago. Good thing you brought it up, I'll have to read them again.

911SC Targa in Georgetown, DC
Overall looks in excellent condition for 4 decade old 911SC (w Fuchs wheels and factory whale tail) besides like the right door probably being repainted at some point

Probably best for someone who is on the track as much as most of us are on the street, provided of course it is a tighter track without long straights.
The owner let me sit in his Exige 430 Cup for sizing prior to leaving the restaurant. The car feels like a go-cart with a roof. Very basic but designed for one purpose. This car weighs nothing, as it should, and has about 430 hp.

I got a bit of seat time in an early Elise (2007, IIRC)
Miata on steroids & anorexia, and the only car I've ever hit my knee on the roof when getting in
I've seen an Evora or two, but never up close.

A friend of mine in the Porsche club bought one but sold it shortly thereafter. We're both tall at 6' and it was something to see him slither into the car.
The German owner (we were in the Black Forest) of the Exige 430 Cup and I talked about quality, fit and finish. He admited it was not at the level of the Porsche, which would bother me as I do 100% of my own maintenance and repairs. I found the same thing when working on my neighbor's C7. I like sports cars that can be daily drivers and well put together.
If I was loaded, I'd have a Lotus as a track only car.

The other issue with the Elise, from what I've heard, is alignments are a PITA, as it's shimmed, so you have to put in the shim, put the suspension together, check and if it's not right, tear it back down & re-shim it.
That said, the Elise is one of the most fun cars I've driven on the street & one of the scariest I've had a passenger ride at autocross.
