The Official Wagon/Avant Discussion Thread
My guess is it's a lot of marketing to try to sell wagons. Meanwhile in Great Britain you can get an A4 Avant, a S4 Avant, a RS4 Avant, an A6 Avant, a S6 Avant, a RS6 Avant, an A4 Allroad, and an A6 Allroad.
In a country that has 1/5 the population of the United States.
I don't know the definitive answer. CLtotheTL said the A4 Allroad was built on the Q5 chassis with an A4 Avant body. I hadn't heard that before. I thought it was just a lifted and facelifted A4 Avant.

Wikipedia has a nice write-up on the A4 model range: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A4#A4_allroad_quattro

But, kinda defeats the point to lower an allroad. But, that's just me. Kinda like me buying a CUV and deciding to lower it. Completely defeats the practicalness of it being a bit elevated in the first place.
As someone that wants an Audi wagon, that's all there is. And you can see that the car looks pretty aggressive when it's lowered like a normal A4.

Cuz, he/she could've just bought an A4.
So, to CIRCUMVENT Audi's dumb@$$ decision to NOT give us Avants, North American owners do the weirdo thing and LOWER allroads and eliminate the extra height functionality to "downgrade" it to an Avant.
GOOD ONE, AUDI.

.I wouldn't mind a Mazdaspeed6 Wagon as a DD at all.
Mazda don't even have to change the engine. It's freaking beasty. Just keep the same engine and make it look like this and sell it at $30k. I'm sold.
I love Mazda. I had zero problem for over 4 years of owning it even though I modded it and drove like a crazy monkey everyday. The dealership experience was very good as well.
I have a 07 with 131k miles that I use as a commuter. It doesn't age well but it is good enough to rack up mileage.
We traded in our FX35 and picked up the new 6. It's a very nice car for an economy class car.

However, maybe Mazdas are just not made for the climate I'm in.
I hear good things about the Mazda6...it definitely looks nice.
. I'm seriously leaning toward a 3s 6MT Hatchback when they start popping up.
Never taken a huge interest in them other than the 2.7T back in the day, but the Allroad has fender flares which aren't present on Avants as far as I can tell. Didn't even know there was an option to get the flares painted to match.
Lowering it makes it look nice, because the flares give it a bit of extra... flair. I'd considered getting a Legacy GT Outback for a while and doing the same thing because it looks awesome

10,000 billion times better than whatever Subaru is building right now.
They should just take that car, put a better interior in it with a 6MT and the latest WRX engine, and put it back on the market.

@ Mazdas after the nightmares we had with the Mazda3.
