The Allroad is essentially an Avant, but on it's tippy toes

The Allroad is an A4 Avant on the Q5 chassis. I want it, but at same time I don't.

Yep. The last Allroad was an A6 with some lower plastic cladding and a raised suspension. This one is the same, just on the A4 chassis. And it pisses me off because the A4 Avant (I see them every day and want one) is a great looking car.

You mentioned that before but I had never heard that it was actually not on the A4 chassis. Given the way these cars are dropped on normal suspension, I'm surprised Audi used the Q5 for the Allroad. Weird.

I was surprised when the salesman told me that as well. I've done some research and honestly cannot find anything that confirms that statement. It's possible that Audi modified the Q5 chassis enough that it's not a mirror image of the Q5, but very very similar.

Honestly, I think he was talking out of his ass trying to sell the SUV side of things. I read an article that compared it to the Avant as the basis for the Allroad. It's a really weird thing but I guess it doesn't matter as the reviews of it are really positive

The first thing I told him was that I wanted an A4 Avant but was willing to "settle" for the allroad

I also stated that I wanted the practicality of an SUV but without having to get 15mpg everywhere. Plus I want something that you don't see too often.

I bet that's where he pulled the "High Speed Bumper Bolts and non-flammable blinker fluid" sales donkey routine and said it was based on the Q5. Salesdonkeys

Surprisingly not; I was the one who asked about the suspension. He said he was surprised that a younger person wanted a wagon

Damn! I had to find out more about that car, so here's a link:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-Wagon-!!!-Wow

The front lip and exhaust are a bit too much for my taste, but then again LB doesn't do "plain and simple"

I hope it has enough power to justify the looks! I'm guessing so by the meaty rear tires but can't find any official power stats.

It's a bit over-the-top...but, still, very unique. And definitely not bad. Very cool find.

Your Vagon is pretty damn awesome too. I think I'd take the Vagon over the M3.

What, wha, no USA model?

The V wagon is better looking than this, but I must say the Jag is definitely not chopped liver.

Really though, should we be surprised?

Frankly, this is all your wife's fault. Your wife and any other wife who thinks a station wagon means they've become their mother.

Women: Why we can't have nice things.

Yup...my wife is the reason why wagons were ruled out for my car. I can safely say that the Audi Avant or similar would've been in the garage if she allowed it instead of the Sea Cucumber.

Both the A4 and Q5 are based on the same basic platform (MLB/MLP) from VAG.

I can't find the article, but I read that the current Allroad combines the B8 A4 chassis with the wider track from the A5/S5, hence the flared fenders and more aggressive look.

Interesting that women seem to generally dislike wagons...I wonder what is it about them that turns them off. My wife thinks wagons look awful.

for my wife, her thing was "it looks huge!" The Touring it turns out, is .1" longer than the sedan she loves. Oh well.

Not sure about that...the wife's family had a minivan and a Ford Taurus sedan.

And she even told me she'd rather have a minivan than a wagon.
